I fly only choppers now in DCS, and I experience a lot of frustrating ctd and other issues in that regard.

Sadly, I have started having CTD's since the latest patch just flying simple 1v1's in the I-16 over the NTTR map. First time this has been an issue for me since I installed DCS in 2021😒

Report it - that type of issue is usually snuffed out fairly quickly.

Had the same, no CTD but staggering game play and Joystick/mouse controllers.

Finally fixed doing a repair with Antivirus disabled.

Seems most modern Virus-killers also destroy downloads, had the same with IL2 recently.

I dont have virus programs running and still DCS is a pile of frustration when it comes to stability. If I knew it was only my pc, I be ok with it. But interweb is full of 4090 owners complaining on current version of DCS. If you shave off ignorant people it still would be a lot of people with new pc complaining.
I do not see the worth investing in a new pc for DCS in its current state. Because I don’t think it would help much.
I have no hope 2024 version of msfs will have a tolerable chopper fm to offer. So I probably will live and hope for a good version of DCs will arrive in my lifetime

Yep, i still have problems, mainly graphic stuttering, but not always.

Can you revert back to an earlier version?

On October 14, 2025, you will no longer get security updates, so I would definitely suggest migrating before then.

This looks very tempting, but due to hard drive space I will pass on this one until I see a favorite server use it or campaign of interest is made for it.
In general people seemed provoked by this release.
I have uninstalled all other simulator in order to squeeze in all of interesting stuff DCs has to offer

Aint ordering pudding when all that's arrived so far is a very undercooked starter.

The map looks really nice, but just like Lusekofte; DCS installation is already taking way too much disk space as I have Kola, Syria, Sinai, Persian Gulf, Nevada, Normandy 2.0, Marianas and Caucasus, so I guess I'll skip another desert map. Also Afganistan is very uninteresting region for me. I'm afraid that Iraq will have the same problems also.

Already planning to have a separate NVME for DCS as it hogs up space like no tomorrow.

Ha! I already have a separate NVME for DCS, several years ago thought 1TB would be enough.  Soon to be replaced with a 4TB one, as 1 is definitely not enough 🙄

I recently reinstalled DCS after most of this year away from it and with only two maps and a handful of aircraft my install is just shy of 200 GB. I had to prune a few other things off my 1 TB drive so I don't get too low on space (<10% and the performance drops).

On a related note, my Il-2 BoX install was massive until I checked, then deleted, the updates folder which had more or less another copy of the game in it at 47 GB in size.

Invested in an expensive Samsung SSD 990 PRO 4TB.

Feel kind of ripped off as in shows only 3.64 available in Aomei, and even 42 GB less than that in windows.

BTW have any of you experienced gameplay stutters, especially at a second start of the game after booting the PC?

This with the latest update only, version 2.9..8..1214.1

All drive sizes are in base 10, which makes them substantially smaller than you might think, if you interpret the sizes as base 2. It was a rather poor choice in the past to denote base 10 and base 2 amounts in the same way. There are attempts to fix this, by replacing MB with MiB, GB with GiB and TB with TiB, where the latter unambiguously means that it is in base 2.

1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes, while 1 MiB = 1,048,576 bytes, for example.

Anyway, 4 TB is 3.63798 TiB, so you did get the right amount.

Also, you really should try flying helicopters in sims... it is a totally different experience.

Based on the discussions re the Korea module I had put the Huey and "Paradise Lost" campaign on my wishlist. As fate would have it I went out on an errand and when I returned the sale had already ended. So just waiting for next Steam sale. My Rhino should be in well before then😊🤞

If you only ever fly one sim helicopter in your life, make it the DCS Huey. A true gem.

This is off-topic. But you are wrong - it should be the Mi-24P Hind! :P

P.S. We really should keep all DCS discussion in the appropriate thread (I'll probably come along and move these posts to it in a few hours).

I'm sure they are capable of it ...but it would take time to implement the complex dynamics. Helicopters are quite complex in their operation and also very complex in their aerodynamic interactions (a lot of encountering your own downwash, rotor blade movements, inertia of parts, things like retreating blade stall)... I suspect adding flyable helicopters would require the work of adding multiple bombers. That said, AI helicopters might be faster to develop.

Also, you really should try flying helicopters in sims... it is a totally different experience.

Flying fixed wing with the SimShaker software along with the the JetPad or HF8 ( SimShaker - IL-2 Sturmovik Forum  ) provides great immersion and allows for seat of the pants flying that would be a super addition to helicopter flying with IL-2 Korea.  With SimShaker you can feel the shudders from effective transitional lift (ETL) which really helps to pilot the ac.  Force feedback sticks also help.  :joy:

Bing Videos

P.S.  It would be great for the IL-2 team to compete with other combat flight simulations by providing helicopters.  Competition is good.  At the moment I have to leave IL-2 and go to a IL-2 team competitor to enjoy helicopter flying in the combat zone.

Happy landings,

Kev - that is very cool!

Love helo’s in DCS.

Side by side pack helo air racing should be a thing IRL. What could go wrong?

Anyway, already in a good mood today, that video improved it further.

I steer clear of mods but might have to try that one. :)

OH 6 should be downloaded by all. It is on line with A4 mod. Just astonishing. My no. 1 favorite fun chopper. But after spending most of my little spare time with Kiowa and Chinook I now started to fly the Hind and KA 50 in order to retain my muzzle memory

got a couple of light armoured and some vehicles online but they got me a little bit too

Appreciated Luse. It does look like a gem. Wish I had time.

I'm waiting for the Cobra...even then I might be too busy flying my Zero.

Well logic says an ED has to have one in-process somewhere be sure, although not officially announced yet.

However I was referring to the Combat Pilot version with that remark. When a DCS one comes that will be great as well.

I fly choppers. And I figured learning more about the Apache would be good brain training. So I took up FCR radar and learned that.  Boy that was easy, it was effective and feels like a cheat. Once it pick up targets you just fire and forget until Winchester.
No back to slingloading and Kiowa. The kills you get from those you earned

Ooooh, that's really nice! I've never regretted buying the Supercarrier module; it's so fully loaded with the feeling.

I wonder how or even if this accounts for statics parked around the Junkyard and Hummer Hole? As it stands you'll be conflicting with Helos and E2C parked where they are in RL. I know ED said its been made for the complexity of MP but statics and AI on the carrier tend to be holograms you can drive through. Far better than what we had but after 5 years nearly still no pushback is a little dissappointing.

On the plus the atmospherics look well.

I given up on a perfect cfs. One pick what one find pleasant and ignore what you don’t.
I am down to just DCS right now. I guess I will have a new pc at home late next year or in the beginning of next. Then I probably reinstall what I might fly and do cherrypicking  on these too.
I think developers on GB, CP and DCS have a vision of doing all good things. But it simply is no time nor budget

There is never enough time or budget to make things perfect, of course. Perfection requires infinite time and budget.

@BladeMeister

that was a nice landing indeed. I am not that confident with the Mossie in DCS but I find it very adorable.
I can not do such a shallow approach, I have a much steeper glide path , not saying you do it wrong. I find your landing better than mine.
Nice video.
