For all warbirds except I-16 - yes, a few months back.

^ Don't know personally 'cause nowadays I use DCS as a cheap equivalent of MSFS mostly for aerobatics and non-combat flying around :D. Shot down only a few planes for testing when it was released and got back to "civilian mode". The results looked promising I admit.

 

Judging from other opinions on ED forum - new DM is advanced, but still somewhat glitchy and in a neverending stage of polishing and tweaking, like all things DCS... Let's be honest though - ANY damage model is better than the old, big-hitbox-based one, literally taken straight from late 1990s.

 

I'm more concerned about other aspect - from offline-player point of view AI flight model and behaviour related to damage being taken are equally important, and this is where DCS development still lags behind - what's the use of the most sophisticated damage model, if AI can still pull off some bollywood maneuvers with wing missing, or engine ablaze? These two aspects should be taken care of in a similar fashion at the same timeframe If you ask me. They have not in my opinion, but at least the DM part is a massive improvement indeed.

 

Now, back to the interesting part - Mozzie. I was rather thinking about waiting for the thing to be released, patched and fixed for at least six months and purchasing it then. That juicy 30% pre-purchase discount makes me think twice, however!

You should be able to cancel the update, for now - DCS seems to handle this, and not actually start replacing files until it has downloaded them all, meaning that the game remains flyable.

Nice!

One of the great things about DCS, you can actually get the AI to attack in a realistic fashion suitable for the airframe.

So I could easily script a flight of AI Mosquitos to come in on a low/fast attack profile and deliver bombs or straf an airfield etc.

Do DCS use larger textures than IL*2? It seems like even with the 4k textures that the IL*2 planes seem less crisp and clear in the small details.
