RNAS10_Oliver Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 (edited) THE SKINS ARE AVAILABLE FROM HALUTERS SKIN DOWNLOADER! ALTERNATIVE SKIN PACK DOWNLOAD HERE (13/03/2021) At least with regards to aviation, I'm interested above everything else in the Royal Naval Air Service and Fleet Air Arm. So the schemes that get added are for the most part going to be representing the Fleet Air Arm. Though some other British schemes that have some connection to the sea might also end up featuring. Schemes that I've done for the Royal Naval Air Service can be found in the Some British Maritime Paint Schemes 1914 - 1918 thread. Also must say thanks to @Jason_Williams and @ICDP for various obvious reasons. If using the alternative skin pack download then to install the skins just unzip and copy the data folder into your games root directory. TEMPERATE SEA SCHEME Spoiler TEMPERATE SEA SCHEME Spoiler TEMPERATE SEA SCHEME Spoiler 278 SQUADRON, 'MYT', AB981 Spoiler 736 SQUADRON, 'ACB', PA103 Spoiler 761 SQUADRON, 'G1A', NX957 Spoiler 801 SQUADRON, 'K', MB366 Spoiler 801 SQUADRON, 'T', MB357 Spoiler 824 SQUADRON, 'P', NF699 Spoiler 842 SQUADRON, 'P', PA120 Spoiler If you have previously downloaded the schemes shown here then also consider downloading the "deletion pack". Sometimes for various reasons, the names for skins can change. To assist you to remove files with old names I've put together this "deletion pack" for which the original idea comes from @GCF in his bundle thread. Unzip once downloaded. Then for each folder in the "deletion pack" copy the files inside, open up the matching folder in your games data\graphics\skins folder and paste the files. When asked, choose to overwrite/replace the files. Because Windows highlights the new files in the folder after pasting this allows you to then just press delete to remove the relevant obsolete skin files. RNAS10_Oliver Posted October 5, 2020 Author Posted October 5, 2020 UPDATED 05/10/2020 Now available in one downloadable package rather than individual downloads for each scheme. Added "deletion pack" to assist in removing files using old names. Added three new schemes. AB981 of 278 Squadron. This squadron was an air-sea rescue unit of the Royal Air Force. MB357 of 801 Squadron Fleet Air Arm. Boston in Temperate Sea Scheme. Some second line Fleet Air Arm squadrons were given the Boston. Filename changes making the format similar to the WW1 ones. Here being aircraftprefix_service, squadron, code, serial number. Colour changes to the all skins that are coated in Temperate Sea Scheme. No other changes comes to mind. 2
Numenor225 Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 Really, beautiful skins, Thanks. I don't know why I hadn't seen it before ?

Cheers for the kind words. Am personally more proud of my Royal Naval Air Service offerings than these though. 1
RNAS10_Oliver Posted December 2, 2020 Author Posted December 2, 2020 UPDATED 02/12/2020 Added two Hurricane skins. The first though shows just an generic aircraft in Temperate Sea Scheme. Just as have also done with the Spitfire and Boston. The other Hurricane scheme uploaded depicts the markings that NF699 "P" in 824 Squadron carried circa December 1943 when Sub Lieutenant Clarke crashed into the barrier on HMS Striker. This aircraft was normally piloted by Major Cheesman though and bore the name of his girlfriend on the cowling. Have more Sea Hurricanes in progress and was going to wait for those to also be ready in order to release an update. But figured today instead to upload these so can get hands on them sooner rather than delay even though they are both ready. 1
RNAS10_Oliver Posted March 15, 2021 Author Posted March 15, 2021 UPDATED 13/03/2021 Sorry but no new skins have been added. Rather the update is because as of now all the historical paint schemes that are shown in this thread have been added onto Haluters Skin Downloader. The download link for the skin pack is going to remain available in the first post for the time being for those that prefer to obtain the skins that way. But do consider using Haluters Skin Downloader instead. It's not got every feature that you could wish for (bit slow at times also) but using the program so far has on balance been great (ease of upload, installs the skins for you, neat handling of censored/uncensored skins) and I think it's got lots of potential. Unfortunately uploading to Haluters Skin Downloader has also meant that the Hurricane skins I've done have had to undergo a slight change of name (due to the removal of trailing spaces and appending of multi-skin tags onto desired names). I've updated the skins in the alternative download link to use these new names also and have updated the deletion pack to aid removal of skins using the old names. I am also considering whether to provide my skins exclusively through Haluters Skin Downloader and at that point I will probably use this thread more for posting about works in progress. 1 1
RNAS10_Oliver Posted March 15, 2021 Author Posted March 15, 2021 (edited) Forgot to add that I've not uploaded the generic Temperate Sea Scheme skins onto HSD for the moment. I'm waiting to see more information about what the dynamic decal system is going to involve. As may want to make more versions of these schemes with minor changes (spinners for example) and have change of names to suit. As you cannot change the names in HSD at the moment thought better to hold on those until am sure whether these are going to change. They are still available in the alternative download though. sturmkraehe Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 Great skins! Can you tell me what colours you took for the two camouflage colours? If you had the RBG code that'll be most wonderful.

If you had the RBG code that'll be most wonderful. The colours used in the Temperate Sea Scheme are named Extra Dark Sea Grey and Dark Slate Grey. Tried out a number of sources for these colours. And one rather interesting article (that am struggling to the article again unfortunately ?) about the various camouflage and markings that the Fleet Air Arm gave a number of recommendations for model paints that are good matches to the colours. Then looked up some of these on scalemates.com and encycolorpedia.com (both sites provided hexadecimal codes) and ended up going with these two for the current version of the skins as these looked close enough to me on the skins compared to some colour photographs; Extra Dark Sea Grey BS640 ACRN02, ACRN02 Enamel Satin | Colourcoats | 14ml (scalemates.com) Dark Slate Grey BS634 ACRN06, ACRN06 Enamel Satin | Colourcoats | 14ml (scalemates.com) Edited May 13, 2021 by Oliver88 1 1
sturmkraehe Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 Thank you so much! Outsanding research work. BTW: great picture find! I love that color image of mechanics at work on a Hurricane.

Thanks for these. Though it should be remembered that any of those colors are never going to match completely and something will almost always appear off. This is due not to the colors themselves but that of the aircraft (IL-2) models, their shading, shadowing, weathering, alphas and a variety of other facets. Nothing will ever really be spot on with anything FAA related, not really, not on the Hurricane at least. Grain of salt and all that if you think it doesn't look right. I think they look great. 1
