The Thursday Night Fly-In

Glad you enjoyed it. Thurs nights are rough.  You basically have 2 options, fly central alone ,see nothing until you run into a dozen 103rd guys and get your ass kicked or fly with them (you get a special sausage channel on comms but no Spad) and shoulder shoot till the cows come home to steal a few kills from their snipers.

Possible 3rd option may be to get in a 7 or 7f  patrol behind your lines and enjoy some No20_Thomson Bristol Muffins.

Greetings All,

This Thursday Jan 23rd we should be flying on the FC JG1 Server during the following times:

EU time: 8PM - 12AM GMT

US time: 8PM - 12AM Eastern Time

Stats Server is here http://stats.jg1.org:8000/en/

FC JG1 is currently running a FiF practice map so if that stays up it could make an interesting change and provide insight into layout and targets for FiF. Lots of 2-seater opportunities for sure.

All welcome as usual and you can find TeamSpeak and Discord channels earlier in this thread - 3PG's TS is  US103.enjinvoice.com

Lunar New Year celebrations will mean i won't be around this week unfortunately, but young Talbot has got a stream going at his channel, so i'll join the throngs watching along :)

Chaos yesterday. Bristol formations, Spad formations, Camel formations, D7F formations, Dr.I formations....

At one point we had 12 SPADs lifting up from the aerodrome together - the whole 3rd PG in full regalia! Was awesome to see. The 93rd broke off to ferry five bristols of No. 20 across the mud, and on the way back we found the 213th mixed up with a bunch of Albs and D7Fs. We had a bit of a melee with them on the way back to home base.

Had one particularly insane fight towards the end of the night where my flight of 3 SPADs threw caution to the wind and took on a Dr.I fight from below...it got messy and I saw a bunch of planes going down, friend and foe...somehow got through that one okay, though!

Haha we were the DR1 flight. That was insane. My pilot was injured from friendly fire from the opening volley of that engagement and had to fight with that handicap for the rest of it. Burning planes and chaos everywhere I looked. I think I knocked down two Spads and I took hits from pretty much everyone. I gotta say, my DR1 took quite the punishment from everyone before it went down.

We were also the Albatros/ DF7 flight. I was flying an Albatros and was just totally overwhelmed when you guys all entered. It was Spads everywhere. You'd get on the six of one and then there were multiple more diving in from behind forcing a break. We should have never entered that fight.  Well done.

Yeah, back in the day we'd have a max of 6 SPADs fighting together - was overwhelmed to see 12 of us!

Dr.I scrap was pure chaos - 5 triplanes diving in from out the sun, our 3 SPADs fighting to the death, a flight of Bristols got involved at one point, the 213th's SPADs fighting more Dr.is above us, and as the dust was settling I saw eight D.VIIs looming over their side! I just shot at anything that crossed my front, hah! I was credited with 3, but that seems a little dubious...

Good to see some more SCG names popping up in FC as well, the front is getting crowded...

Yeah this has become one hell of a party!  The Dr1 scrap ended for me when I pulled my US93rd Bernard SPAD up to hose someone and I got totally hosed myself.  I was shot unconscious and when I awoke I was on fire falling right next to Major Hunter, who was also on fire and falling.  We both screamed like women all the way down, no chutes uno!  What a scene!

It's great to see the SCG guys, who are fearless by the way.  Good stuff.

Thank you all for such fun flights and fights. I fear we were a little bit too fearless ?, we need to get back in the DiD mentality for Flanders in Flames.

Our Group operates on that DiD mentality for the Thursday fights and it sure makes the game TREMENDOUSLY more enjoyable-and stressful. We keep track of our stats and all that for that night. Stop by our forums and we can fill you in on it if you are interested in starting your on mini-DiD night.

There was a weird visibility thing going on. Saw planes from an extreme distance at min zoom but they disappeared when zooming in. Flew for 30 min toward a gaggle with no apparent closure. I sure hope the devs are working on this. Really screws with the tactics.

God help the recons...

Alt vis was ON ?

Edited by US213_Talbot
Posted (edited)

At least from my end Alt vis was on last Thursday.

I noticed right at the first engagement. Planes were teleporting and some would come out of nowhere. From what I see, some planes that were visible disappear when you zoom half way in, but others that were invisible appear. Then, if you zoom all the way in, some of them disappear and others get small. I'm not sure how the devs still keep this visibility. It is basically a White Rabbit version of Jefferson Airplane ? (pun intended of course).

Best viewed for me at 1440p

Yup, that was me, love this skin (don't know who made it). Jacobs is dear to me, since he flew Fokker Dr1s [with Clerget 130hp engines], together with his D7s, till the end of the war. This livery in particular is a good one. He had other liveries and I think he kept two Dr1s in flying conditions during the last year of the war.

Thursday was fun! Never saw so many Spads and Bristols ?Two Bristifs killed me once and I had to return to base a couple times with damaged engines. I saw some fun furballs at the front.

A strong turnout again and some larger, aggressive formations made the sky a very dangerous place today.

Wasn't the best personally, as Parsons and i were sacrificed to the KIFA diety, but the Squad did well adapt to the new tactics we faced and our new guys performed really well.

One engagement had us scratching our heads, but will wait for Track video evidence to detail what happened. Its our lousy SA until proven otherwise.

Again, great to see Squads out in strength and so many flying and enjoying FC. Till next week!

Stream replay is here with Timestamps to most action points in the description.

Explains the busy Front last week. Great to see numbers picking up, wonder if FC included in the recent sale contributed?

Fun change of pace this week with a new Entente defense map on JG1's server called "Not Metz", ie Bruay. And like the original Bruay this meant the Hun hordes attacking our ground targets, often with escorts and higher hunters from both sides looking to feed on the scraps. Unlike Bruay, Entente actually won one! Perhaps the lack of Gothas? ?

Anyway, a great turnout plus the map style resulted in a ton of action especially down low. Looking forward to next week.

Here's our stream replay with timestamps to action points in the description. Wolfpack345 also streamed the evening and his excellent stream is here. https://youtu.be/LxDIYLXZbAE

Was a lot of fun, only wish we got bombs to do any bombing on the first map, Kind of disappointing but still took out the Bristol as a fighter, We got slapped around a bit but was fun. love the fact there was no recon, second map was fun too, had to take a camel which I haven't flown in such a long time. But a ton of dog fighting.

Was lots of fun! We came in with about four players and had a blast bombing some targets and getting into some swirling dogfights. Thanks all! Great gameplay!

Yeah I'd agree with @NO.20_W_M_Thomson. It would be good if Bristols were available in Not Metz, and that random Central field can go.

On the early map Bomber Glory, i'm not sure why loadouts need to be locked, especially bomb load. But it has potential too.

It's good to see some alternative maps that generate good action being trialled, and the FC community as a whole can benefit from finding out what maps work in various context with the plane-set we have.

Thursdays, with a number of Squads taking part, are probably best-suited to maps that have some mission-based  elements and require coordination of forces and reward it's success. But open night sessions do need to cater to all pilots as well.

Thanks to the map makers involved.
