JG1_Wittmann Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 Combat Box. Was the server to be on. Awhile ago. Sounds like you have adde many new features. And the ability to play tanks. Is good. That alone caused many to switch over to finnish. Once more western tanks are released western europe will be good. I believe finnish has / had 3 things cb. Didnt. 1) a continuos campaign style battle tha can last. For weeks. 2) using all of the airplanes in game on a progressing basis. 3) playable tanks and ground objectives . I think if cb could do a long style ongoing campaign. And include earlier planes. And have more historical matchups its popularity would go back up. Limited # planes. Might be limited and alot would like that
LeLv30_Redwing- Posted January 2, 2022 Posted January 2, 2022 I briefly visited the server and liked all the info coming on the chat of plane sightings, very atmospheric...but I also noticed German soldiers walking by a Russian AAA-truck, when I was taxiing to the runway on my P-51. Most likely just an error done in a hurry but surely something you want to fix to the same level as rest of the server ?
=[V]P=vad-asz Posted January 2, 2022 Posted January 2, 2022 Hi! Can't connect to the server, error 10016. My teammate has the same problem. Other servers to connect are fine.
-250H-Ursus_ Posted January 3, 2022 Posted January 3, 2022 (edited) 81" of manifold for P-51B would be available in end war maps? Off course as a very limited P-51B. 81" is a bit monsterish Hey i am not saying that P-51B can't stand K4 DC, without it. P-51D-15 with 75" can, so P-51B-5 as well. But would be good having it, limited, in British airfields as Mustang Mk III in few numbers like IRL. Edited January 3, 2022 by -332FG-Ursus_

This weekend we bring to you, the Battle of Convoy ONS5! RAF forces duke it out against the elite Luftwaffe JG27 and JG51 squadrons. U-boats and Allied destroyers duke it out across the sea... Meanwhile, V1 launch sites threaten Allied ground and supply units. Can the RAF escort the USAAF bombers to target? Will they be able to stop the attacks on their supply ships? Only you can change the course of history... Sign up now and be sure to become a Patreon! Spring 1943 - The Battle of Convoy ONS5 was the most successful U-boat attack of the entire war. Admiral Donitz, by then both Commander-in-Chief of the German Navy and of the U-boat force, overwhelmed the escort forces of Destroyer Group Vidette. With the escort forces out of the way, Donitz's group focused on the remainder of the convoy, sinking both Corvette Oribi and Corvette Pink. In all, 38 Allied ships were sunk to one U-boat loss. At the same time, RAF forces in the area, using the newly equipped P51b's and SpitfireIXe's, escorted USAAF bomber groups to enemy V1 launch sites and faced off against the Luftwaffe forces in the air. During the ensuing air battles, both sides had losses and neither side seemed to gain ground. The losses of both pilots and sailors would be felt through the rest of the war. ----- Do I need to register? No registration required, though we would prefer if you'd sign up via #fly-out-events through the Apollo bot. 150_GIAP-Red_Dragon Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 Hi! Yesterday I got on a new interesting mission, the name seemed to have something about the Battle of Rome or something similar. Many thanks for the development of the server, I think the new format is very interesting for fans of grind attacks. I also had a problem with vulching. It looks like the automatic kick system is not working. Yesterday, after I landed on a protected Allied field (at least on the map it was in a protective circle), I was destroyed right on this field. Of course, I could have chosen an unprotected field by mistake, but there was an inscription that vulching was determined and that I landed successfully. But as it turned out, vulcher was not kicked from the server, but continued to shoot down other planes https://combatbox.net/ru/sortie/log/1450604/?tour=42

This week, the combat will be fierce as both enemy tanks and planes will be right next to each other as they fight over moving vehicles, repair fields, and much more. Sept 1944 - Supposedly, many shipments of whiskey traveled in secrecy to the troops along the front lines. I say mostly in secrecy, because both sides of the war knew about these mythical shipments, but no one knew if the trucks transporting the goods were actually carrying whiskey or some other supplies. Whenever a convoy was stopped, there would either being a passing of hands, or the roadblock ‘saw nothing’. Destroyed convoys allegedly have had no alcohol either. Then, there was always someone else who knew about these Milk Runners, but you never really knew this person. Was Milk Running a myth? Did it really happen? Word is… A large ‘right off the boat’ consignment is being bootlegged right through the combat sector. Not one, but many sets of convoys are attempting this milk run. Will Axis pilots have time to destroy these convoys or will there be too much conflict in the air? Let’s hope for the Milk Runners, that they can get through unopposed. ----- Do I need to register? No registration required, though we would prefer if you'd sign up via #fly-out-events through the Apollo bot. The entire mission was designed and developed by @Barnacles! One of the coolest features of this map, is the ability to remove the 8th USAAF (a player spawn) coming in from the sea by knocking out their navigational radar. Axis pilots will have to seek and destroy the radar locations along the coastline to complete that objective. Be sure to give Barns a big thank you, and if you want to make a mission for Combat Box and Friday Night Flights, look at the pinned messages in the general channel for details. We haven't forgotten that there's two missions, The Channel Dash and Milk Runners, that need to be added to the Combat Box rotation. August 1944 - In an alternative timeline, the Allied breakout from France met stiff resistance in the North of Belgium. The Americans decided to open another front in the Netherlands, to force the Germans to split their forces. However, both the Allied harbor and the American forces to the South are suffering V1 and fighter-bomber attacks. The war of attrition has begun. Both sides' logistic supply chains are stretched so bombloads have to be carefully rationed; the pilots are ordered to make every bomb count. 8th Air Force Fighter support from the UK is available, but owing to poor visibility in the North Sea, these flights depend upon an NDB piggybacked on captured RADAR antenna to navigate. Damaging these beacons will impede the use of UK based-P51s. intelligence reports that there are possibly two RADAR antenna locations, and both will need to be knocked out in order to stop the 8th Air Force from entering the combat area. ----- Do I need to register? No registration required, though we would prefer if you'd sign up via #fly-out-events through the Apollo bot. The operation was more famously known as The Dambusters Raid, where 21 Lancasters, armed with special "bouncing bombs" attacked three dams in the night of May 16th and 17th 1943. The operation was given to No. 5 Group RAF, which formed a new squadron to undertake the dams mission. 24-year-old Wing Commander Guy Gibson, a veteran of more than 170 bombing and night-fighter missions, led the twenty-one bomber crews on the attack. The crews included RAF personnel of several nationalities, including members of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF). After the attack, the loss of hydroelectric power was important but the loss of water to industry, cities and canals would have greater effect to the area. The RAF lost 53 aircrew killed and 3 captured, with 8 aircraft destroyed. The raid was considered a failure and a waste of resources by RAF Command. Unfortunately, we do not have any Lancasters in the game, so we'll use Pe2 series87 as a faux Lancaster. The planes duking it out will be the RAF's Spitfire IXe versus the German aces in their Bf 109 G-6. If you like what we're doing, consider donating to our Patreon, as it keeps FNF and Combat Box going. See you in the skies! May 1943 - The Dambuster’s Raid was an attack on German dams carried out on the night of 16/17 May 1943 by 617 Squadron RAF Bomber Command, later called the Dam Busters, using special "bouncing bombs" developed by Barnes Wallis. The mission grew out of a concept for a bomb designed by Barnes Wallis, the assistant chief designer at Vickers to destroy ships. Wallis devised a 9000lb bomb (more accurately, a mine) in the shape of a cylinder, equivalent to a very large depth charge armed with a hydrostatic fuse, designed to be given a backspin of 500 rpm. Dropped at 60 ft and 240 mph from the release point, the mine would skip across the surface of the water before hitting the dam wall as its forward speed ceased. Initially, the backspin was intended to increase the range of the mine but it was later realized that it would cause the mine, after submerging, to run down the side of the dam towards its base, thus maximizing the explosive effect against the dam. The Möhne and Edersee dams were breached, causing catastrophic flooding of the Ruhr valley and of villages in the Eder valley; the Diemel Dam sustained only minor damage. Two hydroelectric power stations were destroyed and several more damaged. Factories and mines were also damaged and destroyed. An estimated 1,600 civilians – about 600 Germans and 1,000 forced laborers, mainly Soviet – were killed by the flooding. Despite rapid repairs by the Germans, production did not return to normal until September. The RAF lost 53 aircrews killed and 3 captured, with 8 aircraft destroyed. ----- Do I need to register? No registration required, though we would prefer if you'd sign up via #fly-out-events through the Apollo bot. -250H-Ursus_ Posted February 1, 2022 Posted February 1, 2022 (edited) Noticed that on Y-29 battle Tempest has Sabre IIB 11lbs while some planes doesn't have engines modification. Not talking about K4s not DC (Thats not the problem xD) only but P-51D does not have 150 octane (B has -7 engine) Spits IX i do not remember, Mk XIV for sure not. Kinda unnecesary to gib Tempest that engine if DC is not around. Is already annoying by exist. Rest of the planes can have their mods but... Tempest not. This marks Cass's second mission for Combat Box and FNF (his first mission was Operation Spear) and this one looks to be even better! Pilots will not only be able to destroy bridges, trains, railyards, and forward bases, but the objectives are exactly how they really were on 8th September 1944. The objectives also have a really unique design that could only come from the master mission builder Cass. This includes specific plane loadouts depending on which squadron you're flying for, and German radar that can be knocked out - stopping ground forces from being able to communicate with their air counterparts. A lot of time went into the research of this project, so please give Cass lots of hugs love. As always, if you like what we're doing, consider donating to our Patreon, as it keeps FNF and Combat Box going. See you in the skies! September 8th, 1944 - After the German Armies' rapid retreat from Normandy, they are set on slowing the Allies' advance to allow their forces to properly deploy a defensive line along the Meuse River. While the 7th and 11th Armoured divisions look to consolidate their taking of Gent and Antwerp, the Guards have continued pushing and are now approaching the Dutch border. This has left their supply lines dangerously exposed and they have taken some time to refit in Lommel. Some Luftwaffe Bomber and Fighter Gruppen have remained in Holland and Western Germany to assist. With how set the Germans are on slowing down the Allies, they will no doubt be looking to hit the 7th, 11th, and Guards at their front line positions alongside any Forward Operating Bases in range. British Engineers have found the airfields around Brussels in surprisingly good condition and over the last few days Squadrons from the 2nd Tactical Airforce have been transferring from their bases in France. Today is the first day of operations and Air Marshal Sir Arthur Coningham is set on hitting the enemy hard at their Headquarters and Supply Depots. LXXXIX. Armee-Korps, 275. Infantrie-Division and 713. Infantrie-Division are on today’s list alongside a number of key bridges that the Germans are bringing supplies across. Eindhoven’s Marshalling Yard was hit by B25s yesterday, and although they inflicted significant damage to the surrounding facilities, Recon Aircraft could not see any damage to the tracks. 2nd TAF have also been tasked with ensuring any remaining supplies do not go through Eindhoven. In their haste to get operational Allied Command has not had time to set up short-range radar in the area. This will leave any attacking aircraft exposed as well as offering protection to any German Aircraft in the area. Recon have failed to locate the stations but intelligence gathered from the Dutch resistance has given the Allies the areas they are likely located in. In order to make up for the lack of radar, 9th AF Fighter Groups and ADGB Squadrons will be flying intermittent Fighter Sweeps throughout the morning... ----- Do I need to register? No registration required, though we would prefer if you'd sign up via #fly-out-events through the Apollo bot. Sketch Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 Friday Night and Saturday Encore Flights February 18th and 19th, 2022 Gunslingers Date: Friday, February 18th, 2022 and Saturday, February 19th, 2022Time: Friday at 9:00 PM Eastern and Saturday at 2000 UTCServer: Combat Box Main Server Comms: IL2 SRS srs.combatbox.net:6002 ----- Description: For this week's FNF, inspiration came from Spaghetti *'Old West'* Films. Gunslingers were mavericks of their day, and I believe there's quite a few mavericks in our community too. These pilots love to look for reputation and glory, instead of saving others or attacking objectives. You know who you are... Axis pilots have a bit of a role reversal in this mission, as they will have to escort their bombers to target while Allied fighter groups attempt to take them out. Both sides will be at very high altitudes while dogfighting in the skies. Don't forget, if you like what we're doing, consider donating to our Patreon, as it keeps FNF and Combat Box going. See you in the skies! July 1943 - What is a gunslinger? Gunslingers are heroes of integrity and principle from the Old West. They are courageous, morally tough, self-sufficient, mavericks, and they stand and face danger alone. Above all that, a gunslinger's reputation was as valuable as any skill he or she possessed. The German Luftwaffe aces also have these qualities. Hartmann, Barkhorn, Gunther... Like the gunslingers of the Old West, the German aces' reputation and skills have been tested against the Allied might. They are individualists who have been extremely self-sufficient against anything the British or Americans have thrown at them. However, on the ground is a different story. The German ground forces have been pushed as far Southeast as Frankfurt. The weather has cleared enough, and now German High Command has ordered multiple precision strikes on the rail lines of the Allied forces. These rail lines, especially the rail yard in Koblenz, are supplying troops, logistics, and vehicles to the Allies at the front lines very quickly. If the lines are cut, the British and American forces will be without supplies in the coming winter. Allowing the Germans to push their lines back West by year's end. II./KG51 Heavy Bombers in Ju88s have the honor of destroying these supply lines. Backed against a wall, against hostile enemies, and often alone in the air; the Luftwaffe 'Gunslinging' aces will need to come together if they want to succeed. They must escort these heavy bombers to their targets, and bring their own ordinance to bear as well. Railyards, train stations, trains, and rail bridges must be destroyed to slow the Allied might. Meanwhile, 379th Volksgrenadiers have had some good successes in the central part of the front and have begun bombarding the Allied forward base North of Limburg. Additionally, the Axis textile industrial complex at Nidda has become a prime target for the Allies. The Luftwaffe will need to protect both of these assets as well. Will the Axis powers be pushed further into their own territories? Will the Luftwaffe 'Gunslingers' be able to work with the bombers and keep them alive or will they continue to seek their own glory and reputation? Only you can make that call... ----- Do I need to register? No registration required, though we would prefer if you'd sign up via #fly-out-events through the Apollo bot. We will be on the main Combat Box server, and the map will roll at exactly at the listed times above. You can meet us 30 minutes earlier in the Mission Briefing Room voice channel for a quick mission brief and preflight discussions. ----- MISSION BRIEFING 1
Props Posted February 19, 2022 Posted February 19, 2022 Well I am finally flying online again and predominately on Combat Box where I am getting my ass kicked regularly thank you very much?! Have to let go of all that SP and AQMB mindset so it's been a bit exciting to learn SRS and deal with true navigational restraints again while keeping my head on swivel. But I do have a couple of questions: Can I change the size or number of messages displayed in the chat overlay? Is that a CB related overlay, or SRS, or IL2 GB? I don't use it much when I'm flying especially since it takes up about a third of my screen when displayed. I'd like to limit it to about 3-5 messages max if possible. Also, though I do like SRS, are most folks using the Discord channels instead? I like the SRS for mission directs and situation reports, but I never hear any traffic on channels beyond 1 and 2, though I would expect pilots looking for other human pilots for escorts, etc. to be using Channel 3 or 4 where you don't have to listen to all the Command and GC AI radio traffic. Is Radio 2 a better choice for commo between pilots? I feel I should be coordinating my flights better with the other humans (maybe I wouldn't die so much;-). 1

I normally turn off the HUD (for better performance) and so I don't have to see the text chat window. Are you talking about the subtitle text that shows up when an event is fired off (such as an objective being attacked)? That's built by our mission designers, and normally I've set the font size to around 35px. This is probably very large for those in pancake mode using monitors. For the VR users, such as myself, it makes the text readable. Here's what it looks like in VR: You can also hide this subtitle text by turning off the HUD. The SRS bot will also report this information on channel 1. 2 hours ago, Props said: Also, though I do like SRS, are most folks using the Discord channels instead? Most groups, including the friends I fly with, use both Discord and SRS together. I use SRS (and the SRS bot) to coordinate between squadrons, and Discord to talk to the people in my squadron. I mostly use SRS channel 1 to 'herd the cats' so to speak with the coordination between squadrons. Typically, I have radio 1 set to channel 1 and radio 2 set to channel 2 or 3 depending on how close I am to the airfield. I use my hat switch for talking between the different programs and channels. Hat Up = SRS Radio 1 Hat Down = SRS Radio 2 Hat Forward = Discord Hat Back = not used Here's a document that may help you (and others) out: Combat Box Systems Guide - Everything from SRS to Repair, Rearm, and Reloading to Using the Combat Box bot 1
357th_KW Posted February 19, 2022 Posted February 19, 2022 Another SRS pointer - you can set it in the SRS controls to output a radio channel to only one ear or the other. I set mine to send my first channel (which I generally leave on command) to my left ear only, and my second channel (tower or op specific channel) to my right ear only, and then my discord is outputting to both ears. It takes just a bit to get used to, but makes managing all the different radios a lot easier as you know who is talking. 1
Props Posted February 21, 2022 Posted February 21, 2022 Thank you Sketch and VBF-12 KW for your help and suggestions. I don't use HUD at anytime in SP or MP nor any overlays (they just take up valuable real estate on my screen and interfere with spotting) so that's fine. I was referring to the message /chat box on the left side of the screen that I can pull up on the mission briefing pages, etc., but it's not a big deal since I won't use that while I'm flying anyway. Good info on using SRS & Discord setup. I will use different button assignments than yours as I have "muscle memory" to that particular hat for engine management, but I do have other assignments empty and available elsewhere on my controllers. I did not know you can set SRS for individual ears! very interesting.
Sketch Posted February 21, 2022 Posted February 21, 2022 (edited) Attention all Pilots! We have just added four new FNF maps to the main rotation of missions. These maps have been tuned to be similar to other Combat Box missions. This includes the randomized weather system, so each map will always have slightly different weather. It also includes the low population AI that many are fond of. From enemy bombers to P47 attackers to fighter sweeps to quick reaction forces and more - the low population AI will keep you on your toes even if there's no human player to fight. Each mission has had adjustments done to it based on the feedback from the FNF and SEF events too. As an example, Gunslingers now has two airfields that are closer together than before. Furthermore, all of the missions now have proper scoring tied to them. Destroy enough objectives for your side, and your team will win the match up. You can read all the adjustments of the missions and all changes we make in our change-log channel on our Discord. Those missions are: The Channel Dash,Foothold,The Dambuster's Raid, andGunslingers These four missions will show up much more often than our other missions this week. This will give everyone a chance to play them, and provide any feedback in the suggestions channel. You can jump into our Discord by going to https://combatbox.net/en/ and clicking the Discord link there. Thanks again for the great community and I'll see you in the skies! It does not only give a significant "FLY SIMULATION " realism (Weather is and was allways a most important issue in the "AeroWorld" ) but also a big Variety of the same Mission as you a have a often completely different situation and strategy to "adapt". (and if you dont like it , the weatherconditions.., try same mission next time, with hopefully completely different weather) I can only speak for my own and a little for our squadronmates.... For my experience when you play CombatBox , even having a huge number of different missions , you start to know , "where the things are , what to do , when they come .." All this changes significantly having heavy clouds for example or even having a low hanging overcast , forcing to stay low (without energy and no BZ possiblity) or if you stay High a real challenge for navigating. ("...where the f... are we?!?).. Or you can plan to fly some "submarine" overcast Bomber or on a clearskies weather climb up to 7K and watch out for "sitting ducks " or sudden meet an angry , too, 7k hi altitude flying P51 Squadron . WEATHER is and was allways a real challenge , overcast and rain is no excuse to not fly and stay home drinking a warm milk... Edited February 22, 2022 by III/JG52_Speedwulf77 1

I agree with you but when other servers have done this they found people immediately leaving and going to another server ?
