Hello virtual comrade aviators,

Long time lurker, but due to being busy elsewhere I've drifted out of the air combat sim community. However I recently got a new gaming PC and bought CloD and BoS. CloD is still a disappointment but BoS was great right out the box.

However, there was one or two little disappointments in the hangar in the Soviet hangar.

Where is my I16 Type 24? Where is my MiG 3?

I bought the Deluxe edition from Steam, because it offered the La5 and the FW190A8, but I'm not particularly impressed with either.

Does the I16 and MiG3 'unlock' at some point

So far, I've only done quick missions, to get a feel of the game and the environment.

Any advice?

They're in the BoM pack.

Why was Cliffs of Dover a disappointment to you? You did get the latest v4.55 Blitz edition?  Team Fusion have done a lot with it and it's actually pretty good right now - I'd play it more if VR support was there already.

You've bought IL-2: Battle of Stalingrad. A great starting point but there are other content packages including two fully released titles (in addition to Stalingrad) which are Battle of Moscow and Battle of Kuban.

The I-16 and MiG-3 are in the Moscow pack. They are really great! Wait for the next sale if you can get Battle of Moscow because if you like these two aircraft you will probably like the rest of the pack.

You´re confused about his confusion

I think it was a typo on OP's part. The deluxe version they talk about includes (BoS) includes the La-5 and FW190A3.. not the A8 as OP typed.

Because after 2 weeks of tinkering with it, I've only just got my stick set up, and badly, control is poor, and I still cant get Trackhat to work. .ini files seem to get corrupted or lost or Freetrack suddenly wont recognise them

After nearly a decade, they have improved it. My original copy wouldn't even launch.

Now my IL2 BoS won't launch because of some Steam problem. I ve checked the integrity of the files, but that hasn't helped. I spend more time setting up, repairing, resetting, recalibrating than actual flying these days, and I am going off this hobby a little bit every day.

IL-2: Battle of Stalingrad shouldn't be that difficult to get started with. In 6 years I've seen maybe 3-4 crashes total and never an issue that required a repair or anything of the like. Can you send us some details?

Today I got a 'Loading Please wait' on a black screen with the IL2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad Logo on it and a thin red loading bar line below, which is all the way to the right.

But it never loads. It's hanging up/freezing. I have to restart my PC.

None of my other steam games are doing it. Give up? Delete and download again? I have changed nothing on my PC or my Steam account, but going in to Steam I was aked to verify using a code sent to my email address, which I did.

It was working so well yesterday, and I was in the final stages of tweeks, and ready for campaigns and careers. BoM is on hold.

Steam just directs me to a series of FAQs of no use at all. I have heard of this fault mentioned on other forums. Steam don't seem to care though.

When this happened could you press Alt+Tab and switch to another application. Alternatively were you able to press Cntrl+Alt+Del, select Task Manager from the menu, and verify that IL-2 had locked up. Were you able to end the process. Or did you hit the reset button? If you hit the reset button lets try again but use the alternative method.

I'd like to know if were dealing with a hardware issue or a software problem.

Confusion inception! We must go deeper.

You might want to try a reinstall.  Take notes of the teaks that you made and save the files somewhere else.  Reinstall.  Make sure the base game starts.

Out of curiosity, what tweaks?  Key bindings?  if your tweaks are more in depth than that you might have to be careful.  Apply your tweaks one at a time.  Make sure the game starts between each one.

Possibly a Freetrack conflict? For a while I was getting issues with VR but these resolved after a disk-clean / de-frag and reinstall.

Maybe bad ram or not seated properly ? I had similar problem , and thats what it turned out to be . Only 4gb out of 16 were working properly . Ive since gone with new everything including 2080ti . Anyway it could be your computer . Dont give up on this sim , it's freaking Amazing in VR !

I've put a ticket in describing the problem to the Developer, 1C Studios support. Funny how other games work well.

As for DIMM sticks of memory not being seated, would my system still say 16 (15.9)gb if a DIMM wasn't properly seated?

Coz I have one that looks a little bit out, but only a tiny amount

Yes it very well could. I'd disconnect, unplug, put the system down on its side... take all of the sticks out. Make sure everything is clean and there are no bent pins or other signs of physical trouble. Reseat all of the modules.

Have you checked your firewall? Norton wanted to block the game on me after the last update because so few people were using it.

If you can, try running it in windowed 2D mode and see if your firewall throws a block up at it.

Did you try a reinstall like Pat suggested? That'd be the first thing I try.

@ShamrockOneFiveChecked DIMMs - Ok (Corsair 2x 8gb DDR4 2133mhz)

@SoilworkerUninstalled and re-installed and integrity check via steam, and disc clean up and defrag - Still won't launch.

Removed files 'connect' from the data folder - Still won't launch

Using task manager, force closed 'running' IL2BoS - still won't launch beyond the black splash screen

AV software has already been told to leave BoS alone by me.

Won't open in administrator role (not even an option on the dropdown/r click menus

Turned it on and off again etc;;

@VoyagerI'd rather have a virus than use Norton. On my old Win7 machine it used to take 80-90 mins to load FSX Acceleration because it didn't like .air files!

I am using Bullguard until it runs out in 45 days. Then I will install Kaspersky. That always works well

Well it's always recommended to have the latest drivers, I'd definitely try it however in my experience, unless you have really out of date drivers it usually doesn't help much...

(Speaking of which I should update my drivers!)

Comrade Aviators, Hurrah!!

Success! Victory! Triumph!

A plot by reactionary elements determined to undermine the air defence of the virtual Motherland has been discovered. Some running dog lackey who had more than his ration of Vodka had connected up the monitor DVI lead to the motherboard i/o DVI port and not the GPU's DVI i/o port.

Once the scapegoat culprit can found he will be dispatched to a Siberian Salt Mine.

Getting some truly astounding graphics now. Winter weather with sun low in the sky is especially beautiful.

I think what makes BOS so very different from other combat flight sims is that slight warmth in the colours, that evocation of light you only get in country with 'big sky' (flat plains and steppes) which carries with it an emotion, not just excitement with it's vista. DCS world has this feel too, but not to the same degree. I also note the aircraft all have there own unique handling characteristics. I like the La5, but it's ground and take off handling is atrocious. The FW190A has a teutonic efficiency but takeoffs can be scary too. The most benign aircraft is the Yak-1, which was quite surprising but the LaGG 3 packs a punch if you can get it on target.

Quite often I free flight just to look at the environment as it is so beautiful. My system is performing as it should be now, with a V-sync locked solid frame rate of 60fps. It could go higher no doubt, but I use Trackhat and don't want to put too much stress onto the CPU just yet. And my monitors max is 60hz, but I will upgrade eventually to 144hz  But I am still going to expand to 32gb RAM @ 3200mhz and a 1TB SSD will be needed soon. Once I've mastered the flying in BoS, I will move on to Moscow,/Kuban and Bodenplatte and the amazing Me262. The best to last!

The guides here were useful in setting up Trackhat, which is easy, but difficult to get 'just right' without a lot of tweaking, and after about 5 or 6 hours I could see how it works and am now adding the final touches to the profile curves and dead spots. 285295894_il2-sturmovik-battle-of-stallingrad-05(1).jpg.d7558da211b440eb286613cda1e542f3.jpg

Great to see you got it working! and thank you for posting the resolution!  That type of follow up is what helps people in the future.  in fact, you mentioned that you had seen this issue on other forums.  i bet they would appreciate your insight.

its a wonderful flight sim. its a nice balance between ease of use and fidelity.

also, with the fw-190, the tailwheel locks when you pull the stick back, so dont forget to do that as you get moving.  makes things much easier!
