Fercyful Posted February 22, 2020 Posted February 22, 2020 Happy to see the great uniforms and sad about the sound mod news (really some of the actual sounds in game are not good) What a rollercoaster of emotions. Thanks for the update! 1
1./KG4_OXO123 Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 just the best work done for the uniforms , so looking forward to the download ! 1

It would've been nice to have been able to mod the sounds, especially considering how much effort Nils put into going to the Bovington Museum with his high-end sound equipment and recording all he did with Tiger 131. The engine sounds (startup/off, gear changes, traverse elements, hatches etc etc etc). Not to mention all the work Alan has done over the years with his I44 and Arma3 Panzer mods, which are exceptional. All the effects were great, but you should've heard the internal sounds... The main gun fires in this throaty, awful belch that's just knocking your boots off. Then the empty casing is ejected into this amazing sounding metallic reverb as it hits the back panel section, followed by slamming the next round into the breach and a loud and commanding "Geladen!" voiceover. Again, it is what it is. Edited February 27, 2020 by DetCord12B 1

The way sounds mods work for the IL-2 series isn't the way they work for any other game. Sound replacements require a complete overwrite, which wouldn't typically be a big deal, but any sound replacement requires a reupload of the original files, regardless of whether they've been altered or not. Separate files as a mod do not work, and this means that replacing something as simple as a music track or sound of any kind would require a re-upload of the entire sound file. A file that clocks in at over 2GIG's. Alan and I had high hopes for this game with regards to modding, but it looks like this just isn't the case. Aww noooo... Proper sounds would have bring so much athmosphere and feeling to game, that is something it currently lacks...a real shame. Screenshots looks really good!

Feel free to ask but that would require paying these guys for their time, equipment costs, and hours spent. It's one thing to do a mod out of passion and love for a title, it's something else entirely include effects officially without compensation for a product that's for sale and earns money in which the initial producers aren't compensated. 1 1
DetCord12B Posted March 5, 2020 Author Posted March 5, 2020 (edited) The Das Reich uniforms are done. I wasn't satisfied with the cuff titles and collar boards, at all, so I created new ones and hand jammed them from scratch. New Normal and alpha maps are all complete, including the alternate PD3 camo and default campaign centric panzer wraps. All that's left are the Heer variant uniforms and the new tank [Tiger/Panther] camo schemes (somewhat done), the new cruddy tracks (almost all done) for all of the TC vehicles that dirty and muddy the track sections as opposed to their newish, clean, default levels, and the new dirty and muddy tank textures themselves. Hope to have it done by the weekend. Muddy tracks. Edited March 5, 2020 by DetCord12B 11 3 4
E69_julian57 Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 Very good work, I like all the details you put in it. I look forward to this great mod. 2
Yankee_One Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 Stunning work, this will heavily improve this game. 1
DetCord12B Posted March 9, 2020 Author Posted March 9, 2020 (edited) Missed the release date again. I do apologize. No more dates, period. It's done when it is done. However, I thought a status report was needed as to where I am. CURRENT STATUS Uniforms: FIN - Heer - Großdeutschland Panzer Wrap completed. FIN - Waffen SS (Das Reich) P43A camo Panzer Wrap completed. FIN - Waffen SS (Das Reich) default replacement Panzer Wrap completed. AFV's: WIP - RKKA (Soviet) tank textures not done. Will provide post release as a patch so as not to delay the mod any further. FIN - Tiger textures are completed. All done, thank f@#king God. Both depict a post Kursk (2-4 months) camo scheme variation. WIP - Panthers are still a WIP. Primary texture is about done which will enable building off that one to the next and last one. Ease of use and all that. AFV Related: WIP - RKKA tank internal additions completed. FIN - OKH/W-SS tank internal additions completed. FIN - OKH/W-SS custom vehicle normal maps completed. FIN - RKKA dirty, muddy, cruddy, gross, tank tracks completed. FIN - OKH/W-SS dirty, muddy, cruddy, gross, tank tracks completed. Other: WIP - Custom tank previews. WIP - Vehicle descriptions and history. WIP - Custom vehicle previews via menu selection. What I'm discarding: Custom themes. Custom Soundtrack. Custom loading screens. The reason this is taking as long as it is is due to the tank textures themselves. There are anywhere from 800 to 1300 individual parts mapped per vehicle per sheet, and they're spread all over the place. I've been in this industry as a contractor for a decade and I've never seen anything like this. Just absolute madness, IMHO. Therefore, you can see why I missed my release date. Quote REDDIT: So, every time a change is made in Photoshop it has to be saved as a DDS, copied into the folder, enabled as a mod, launch the game, select a mission, load a skin, start the mission, take a look at the texture, take a screenshot of the texture, close the game, disable the mod, make the alterations to the texture in Photoshop, save as a DDS, copy into the folder, enabled as a mod, launch the game, select a mission, load a skin, start the mission, take a look at the texture, take a screenshot of the texture, close the game... and on and on and on and on. Jesus, I was close to blowing my brains out, and you can see why it takes as long as it does even with the ID Map which helps, but is also just as infuriating and at times misleading. I spent almost three days on one, single, texture...and it still isn't done. If the developers decide to do another Tank Crew, they better find a third-party that knows what they're doing, cause this is a mess. Phew... Venting complete. New thumbnail selection example. Panther GD WIP's. Edited March 9, 2020 by DetCord12B 8 4
Katowiz Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 (edited) WOW!!!! It all looks and sounds beautiful. I'm sure it's gonna be a great mod-pack. Take all the time you need to accomplish your artwork. We all know your high demands on your own work. I've thrown an eye on the Panther-template..., and yes i'ts a real chaos. Thanks for the info and thank you in advance for sharing. E69_julian57 Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 You're absolutely right. The templates are out of control, as you say a lot of time is wasted in locating the pieces I think the developers should look at it. 1
Goosevich Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 Goddamn what a mess ? Dude, just take your time, and don't burn out on us ?
Lofte Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 (edited) Spoiler Your Richtschütze was a very bad student because he did not learn well how to write word "Bolschewik" before he get in Panzerwaffe. Edited March 10, 2020 by Lofte

But the texture mapping is absolutely awful, like quite possibly the worst I've ever seen, ever. The developers won't look at it. They made it that way to begin with. That translation came from a native German speaker. That said, I do need help with a few Russian translations for RKKA vehicles...if you're willing to help? Last update before release - My initial camo scheme for the last Panther was a direct copy of a post-Kursk GD scheme. I poured probably 60-90 hours into this historical and intricate pattern before it became obvious that the 300+ parts spread all over the map that needed texturing came into view. The vast majority of my time was spent via trial and error and trial and error and trial and error, and on and on and on. Eventually I just gave up, I quit. I came back to it because I hate leaving things unfinished and shifted the patterns to make things easier on me, and it shows. For that I apologize. 9 1
Tomi_099 Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 Good things take time! So, for the users who want to make the skins, this is a fiasco. The poligons were thrown out inconsiderately. a minus to the developers ..sorry .. that takes a lot of time to create reasonable skins. I can understand you perfectly. 1

DetCord12B Posted March 20, 2020 Author Posted March 20, 2020 (edited) The mod is done. Save for these unit descriptions. @E69_julian57 Could you also translate the above into Spanish in that order (top to bottom)? @Tomi_099 Yep. Just open the Tiger template and turn the wireframe on. I've never seen so many inconsistent tri's, verts, and poly's in my life. EDIT - Any native German speakers I need the same. Thank you. Edited March 20, 2020 by DetCord12B

Stab is like platoon, so Stab 2 is 2nd Platoon, Stab 3 is 3rd Platoon ect. Might as well supplement those (# Platoon) for Stab in the Russian translation. EDIT - 2.A is the unit designator for the 2nd platoon, A section of that Panzerjäger or tank destroyer unit. So that designation can be removed and replaced with Heavy Tank Destroyer Company. But german tank company had only one command unit - so called "Kompanie Trupp". "Kompanie Trupp" consisted of only 2 tanks, and had no numbers (it was only one in company). "Platoon" in German = "Zug", as I know.. Not "Stab". Sure about Stab = platoon? I corrected my translation a bit 1
