Hi @SYN_Vander,

I have observed sometimes a strange behaviour of AI Bomber flights:

After they have reached the target, they fly back, wp4, wp5 and landing.

Sometimes between wp4 and wp5, sometimes after wp5 and landing and even 1 times observed during landing process they seem to get a order to return to the target.

What is of course suicide if 2 or 3 damaged bombers with low or no ammo and fuel make a second attack.

Do you have an idea what could be the reason?

Maybe a trigger that we could deactivate?

It's only question, if you don't have time to care for, no problem!

Thanks. I think it's due to how I handle damage events. Looks like if a (or multiple) plane is damaged it will fly to wp 5. But in that scenario the "Force Complete" command is not triggered, so perhaps after reaching wp 5 it will then continue with the previous task or something. I'll fix this in next update.

Hi @SYN_Vander,

I have a request for an alternative option for conditions that a mission is accomplished:

Additionally to the current settings, that you have to destroy ... ground targets, planes,... for a accomplished mission.

I would like have (if possible) the option:

You have only to survive the mission and have only to return back to your side of the front line.

This from my point of view is importent for a "realistic" campaign mission, because in reality you can never repeat something that already has happened in the past.

Currently I am doing this in my current campaign missions in a very primitive way by activating a Mission Objective / Primary Task "Success" after 20seconds.

But this creates some wrong "Mission Completed" and "...flight return to your base" messages.

Do you think you could implement such an option?

Or alternatively if it creates to much work to you:

Could you maybe create a small group for this modification, only to be installed with "Import from file" into the campaign missions?

It is only a question, if you don`t have time available no problem.

New version of EMG, following the latest IL2 update:

 

Version 85
-Added Ta 152
-Extended planes_ai_only.json with entries for planes and specific roles which should be available for a player, but not AI because it was uncommon. Example: bombing in the Li-2
-The last waypoint before landing is now same height as the previous waypoint, but is moved a little further out from the airfield
-Added new front "Battle of France" to Normandy map which *may* represent situation in June 1940 or August 1944
-For multiplayer dogfight mission, the ratio of fighter bases vs bomber bases has changed resulting in more fighter bases
-Static vehicles and planes from the template will now be replaced with proper ones of the faction & period automatically
-When there are multiple objectives they will now be a little more grouped together on the map.
-Fixed a bug where it was possible to save a config to file with empty name
-Fixed spelling error for "Abbeville" airfield on Normandy map
-Fixed bug where bombers would fly back to the target area after returning home
-The setting "ai_bombers" in the config file is now set to True by default. This means AI bomber flights will be created in Dogfight missions that will bomb the targets
 

The server generator version has also been updated.

Thanks very much that you haved fixed this issue!

Only one question: is it possible to me to fix this issue in a V84 modification of EMG too?

I am using the currently my complex modified v84 Papua Guinea EMG to create a campaign.

Is the change in the generic mission template only in the "bomber flight group"?

Or is the emg.exe changed in respect of this issue too?

You could try to copy the new generic template to the older version and see if that works. I don’t think I did any code changes for this.

Hi Vander, thanks very much, yes, it seems to work.

Now an idea concerning the Flight_Bombing:

I know, that your mission design is very sophisticated and intelligent. I have to admit my brain is a bit to simple designed to understand all.

Sometimes, in general, there are situations near the target, maybe if there is air to air combat, were the bombers are a bit confused and start to circle, or they make multiple runs to the target,... (sorry for my unspecific statement).

 

Do you think, it could make sence, to simplify the mission design near the target between wp_2 and wp_4?:

-when wp_2 is reached, only target_wp is activated.

-when target_wp is reached (due to the radius of some ca.4km before the target) only wp_3 and attack_timer are activated.

   -wp_3 with a short time for only one target run, e.g.: 2minutes

   -attack_timer a bit longer than time of wp3: e.g: 2minutes 10 seconds

-attack_timer activates only wp_4.

 

But this only a suggestion.

Maybe your mission design is required for other importent tasks that I can not overview.

Typically, don't enter anything in "Mission folder (optional)". EMG will automatically use the default folders for single mission/coop and dogfight. This will avoid unnecessary problems.

Okay, I do the same.

I create only single player missions.

If you want often different types of missions: single player, coop missions, dog fight missions, you can remove the folder definition. EMG will create automaticly the mission in the correct folder. SYN_Vander suggested this yesterday:

Same here.  It had been working just fine without that step until I had PC issues and ended up re-installing EVERYTHING!  Afterwards, a mission would "create" and be listed in the Missions folder but would not appear in game.  Adding a subfolder solved the problem.  Don't know why.  Also, I have noticed that when I fly out of Hawkinge using the Battle of Britain-3 template there are Russian I-16s scattered about the airfield!

I think it has to do with the mission cache files not properly being refreshed. You can also delete this file " mtreecache.eng"  in \data

That took care of it.  However, I think I prefer the sub-folder.  :)

 

Have been using the Battle of Britain -1 template lately.  Seems all the airfields have Russian aircraft parked here and there.  No British aircraft.  Odd since it's a map of England.  Reverse Lend-Lease, I guess. lol

Sounds like a bug! I'll look into it. What date?

Okay, found the bug. For some reason I added "USSR" as a country to the "WW2_WEST" theatre of war, which is obviously wrong.

With this fixed, the I-16's and U2vs will be gone and replaced by crates as there are no static models of 1940 British planes in the game I think.

 

Need to release a new version...

@SYN_Vander I can see the airfields section of the Normandy map now includes 6 new airfields (presumably for the Battle of France) and that you fixed a typo for Abbeville - If possible, can you please advise if there were any other changes to other airfields at all eg helpers like wp_0 or airfield tower etc. I'm trying to update the more realistic flak environment mod and as it's a lot of work it'd be great if I can save time anywhere and if nothing changed for airfields other than the things mentioned in the changelog then I am safe to copy and paste from old template to new. Thanks!

I suppose not exactly as you want but you could increase the "Target difficulty"

In general it is possible to create a new Template mission with front lines, target objective definitions,...

And the GUI map has to be created for EMG and scaled / positioned, what is possible but always a bit complex.

The Lapino Map is very small (50km x 50km).

I suppose that the creation the Lapino EMG Mod would mean ca. 8 to 20 hours hard work.

Do you have information in which time frame there were military actions and where the frontlines were?

The implementation for EMG would make for me only sence, if there was a more or less historic correct static front for at least 3months.

And because of the small map size the location of front must be more or less in the center, because you need for german / russian territory some minimum space for airfields, ground units, ....

But this would be an EMG modification that had to be updated to the new original EMG versions...

Quick question. I am trying to create a mission for my father and I to run.  everything has worked in the past, but tonight I hit generate, and it just sits at "generating" and goes no further.  I let it sit for well over an hour and it never created the co-op mission. 

 

I downloaded version 85

I have my il2 main folder pointing to the correct location. 

The situation I have set is Kuban Krymskaya, Date as 15,02,1945

country USA, intercept mission with P-51D as the lead, P-47D-22 as escort.  and Axis set to Germany, set as Transport etc. Nothing to strange

 

I have the base Battle of Stalingrad, and Battle of Bodenplatte both purchased from Steam.

 

I check the program in the Task Manager and it is showing 88.6mb of memory used, disk, network and cpu as 0%.  Not sure where to proceed from here.

I had this too. I think it was to do with 'custom plane set'. I had no machines in the list for 'attack planes'. Once I made sure there were machines the mission generator could pick from it worked normally.  Hope it helps.

I messed around with it a little bit today and came to the same conclusion.  Thanks :) I have a few missions to give a try with now.

Perhaps EMG was creating ambient AI flights and so you need something defined for every section of the custom planes set up?

Sorry Im late for this discussion but I just found out about this wonderful tool for creating (more interesting) missions than the ones in career mode lol.

Anyway, I noticed the app comes with many different front lines to chose from that will eventually generate a simillar front in the game after you prompt it to generate a mission. I wonder if its possible to edit those and create my own front line in the EMG itself, instead of using the premade ones and AFTER editing it in the game mission editor.

Yes, it is possible:

-you have to define in the Template mission the new front lines by copying / editing existing ones.

-you have to check if the target objective definitions in the template mission are okay for the new front. If not you have to define new target objectives.

-you have to add the front in the maps.json

-you have to edit the objectives.json in respect of the new front.

Thank you, I copied Line C and renamed it "line D" now im trying to understand how can I redraw the "Area_Allied" image.thumb.png.c604a7bab0a5961d938848b4cbd30b2d.png

 

1) the allied area, the axis has one too but I cant reshape it nor do I know how to create one from scratch
2) the front line can be moved, de points deleted but it still dosent influence de areas

Hi Vander, thanks for your great EMG and new v85.

While testing today @Stonehouse's AAA environment I encountered an new issue:

-a Bomber flight flys toward it's target and is attacked by AAA

-only 1 bomber (not the lead) is hit

-all bombers drop their bombs and the attack is failed

I suppose, it is because of this new command force compl. in the "Count damage events" in the flight bombing:

For test I have deleted the link from the "Count damage events" to the "force compl" in the Generic templ. and now the bombers continue their attack despite of light losses.
