CB77Don246 Posted December 23, 2018 Posted December 23, 2018 I have doubled my FPS here's how by setting the Terrain from High to Blurred. My FPS were a steady 60 now I have anything up to 130 most in QM it is in the mid 80's My Pc setup is WINDOWS 7 64 BIT, / CPU INTEL i5 - 4690K (STD) / 12GB RAM, / GTX 1060 3GB. GAME SETTINGS AND A PIC SEE UPPER RIGHT HAND CORNER 137 FPS hope you can see it (very rare mainly around mid 80s) 1 1
Leon_Portier Posted December 23, 2018 Posted December 23, 2018 Noice I´ll try that too! What could make the game run faster with the landscape filter set to blurred?
Semor76 Posted December 23, 2018 Posted December 23, 2018 ...and now, please fire up Vendigo´s Fortress Stalingrad campaign, fly the first 2 missions and then come back and tell us the results ?

I do not have it can you link it for me.
Semor76 Posted December 23, 2018 Posted December 23, 2018 This is what I love in the flightsim community. Every 2 days somebody in the forums pops up and scream HEUREKA! "I´ve found the holy grail and doubled my FPS with a simple click in the settings menue" No matter if its IL-2, DCS, X-Plane or any other flight sim ? I love you guys... Don, if the landscape filter settings can help you to gain a few more FPS, then fine. But better test your actual settings now in a enviroment what puts a hard workload on your system. 1 1

I like that little iL16 have not flown it much looks a great campaign.
Rjel Posted December 23, 2018 Posted December 23, 2018 I just tried this out and I did see a slight improvement in FPS in flying a Stalingrad campaign mission. Best of all it still ran smoothly for me. I had 16 planes in the air and a lot of ground targets in the area. It might not be the panacea for every system but it seems to work ok for me. If nothing else, it's easy to do and doesn't cost a dime. Thanks for the suggestion CB77Don246.

If by "Terrain" you mean "Landscape filter", there is no "High" option there. Have you changed only one setting? I see that you have Shadows only on Medium, for instance. Your graphics card has only 3GB of memory (VRAM). Any time the memory is not enough, you get a significant drop in performance. So if the setting or settings you changed caused a reduction of used VRAM, it would explain the performance increase in your case. Or could be something else. 1

What you see is my graphics settings, I only changed the landscape filter the only other thing I did not mention in my PC spec is I am running SSD drives and boy do they make a difference.
Dutch2 Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 I also did do the test to set the terrain to blurred, in my case for VR, only I did NOT notice anything of a double FPS increase. i7-7700k OC to 4,8 Ghz GTX1080 +185 & +300 mhz OC 16Gb DDR4 RAM 3200 mhz Samsung Odyssey plus WMRset
THERION Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 Setting you landscape filter to "Blurred" does not significantly increase your FPS - but it will help you very much in spotting your enemies. 1

I know it depends on what is going on aroung you, but what FPS do you typically get in multiplayer? I currently have a 3570K at 4.2, 16 Gb, and a 1060 with the Lenovo WMR and I can usually get the 45 at least and I'm considering upgrading sometime. But I'm not sure if I want to hold out another year or so for even better stuff to come out.
Dutch2 Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 (edited) I still struggeling in quick missions to get the right FPS before going to mp. I had to OC everything to get an decent Fps. Near Moscow it is 55 fps max and in a summer map lukie or sounding like that, it is between 40 and 90 max. Think for somthing decent it should be the I9-9700k and a RTX2080ti or the new Titan RTX. -332FG-Gordon200 Posted April 21, 2019 Posted April 21, 2019 Set your landscape to "Blurred" and check "Sharpen". The contrast between the background and objects (your targets) is increased. 1 1 1
DragonDaddy Posted April 21, 2019 Posted April 21, 2019 Dutch: Nice overclocks on your GPU and CPU. Any issues with heat or stability? How do the FPS compare when you run the same scenarios without VR?

Read my post in the VR section and you will find my improvement with or without overclocking https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/43858-influence-adjustments-on-vr-using-fcat-vr/ I still doing testings for tweaking, but stopped publishing . The 4,8Ghz in combination with OC 3200mhz RAM is in my case the limit.
Dallas88B Posted April 22, 2019 Posted April 22, 2019 (edited) @Gordon200 Ah, got it. Thanks for explaining. Edited April 22, 2019 by Dallas88B
HappyHaddock Posted April 22, 2019 Posted April 22, 2019 I'm not going to derail this thread but will mention another I've just started elsewhere about an odd issue I've found that has been almost halving FPS. Solving that would be effectively doubling FPS... I will however add that on my old PC (i5-3570k 16GB DDR3, gtx970) , much like the OP the difference between blurred and sharp landscape settings is close to double the FPS. HH

Yes, it does my dear friend - I had a lot of difficulties in spotting the enemy at a reasonable distance. When I spot them, it was already too late. With these settings, I now can spot them (and identify them!) much easier, which helps me to chose my position in the combat zone and how to react depending on the enemy's plane (know what he can do or not and what I can do resp. not). This increased my success considerably, although I'm still not an ace and sometimes I still suck. On 4/21/2019 at 12:00 PM, Gordon200 said: Set your landscape to "Blurred" and check "Sharpen". And while we're at it, try to lower the gamma of the game below 0.8, which is the lowest setting possible in the graphic settings. Open the startup.cfg file, which you can find in your game directory and set it to 0.7 or even 0.6. I set mine to 0.6 and it works great. And don't worry - your game still looks amazing, there's absolutely nothing to worry about. Cheerio P.S.: Remember, although modifying your gamma manually in your startup.cfg file works fine, as soon as you modify something else in your graphic settings of the game, the gamma value will be reset to the game's lowest value 0.8. In VR this sharpen does give a lot of in-cockpit shimmering which in the case of VR is rather irritating. A low gamma setting is a good tip, I use btw 0.9 because some cockpits become to dark when lowering, but when flying in the winter this low gamma, turns out to give an unrealistic blue snow, so here I always use an higher setting, like 1, This gamma setting can also be set while playing, (ESc—>settings) only as you figured out, not that wide range (0.8-1.2), but you will see directly the results. Superfly29r Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 I see a lot of 'high end rig' with no comprehension of what it's like to play on a potatoe! Sometimes increasing your performance by a few percent, in the case of "blurred terrain" here, will also solve a bottle neck in vram and indeed result in 40+ fps gains, just from one setting! Really impressive if your PC was not smooth and jittery. I play on a high end system now, I threw in a 1070ti and noticed zero fps gains from my 980. I then realised that my 3000mhz ram sticks were still running at 2160mhz. Switched them to 3k and fps doubled to 100-140 and zero stuttering! And that's maxed out! Finding a bottle neck is the name of the game in poorly optimised Sims with highly variable demand! 1
