Disappearing objects in VR

Sigh, no luck.  Objects popping in and out of existence persists. Maddening.

I updated last night, took a few hops on the Normandy map and this was happening to me too. I noticed it zooming in on trucks. I don't recall exactly where on the map it happened. Zoom in--they'd disappear. Zoom back out--they're there. Just thought it strange and didn't think more of it til I saw this. I'm also on a G2. Didn't try WMRSteamVR, just OpenComposite.

It happens to me too, with certain objects. The most annoying now are the fire and smoke from the explosions, I made a post with the problem.

You aren't going to want to hear this, but if you look through the previous posts I had the same issue and could never resolve it. I tried reseting keybinds, changing them, etc... the good news is I managed to fix it, but only by deleting the entire input folder and starting over.

What would an input mapping have to do with this graphical problem?

Something gets screwy with the pilot head control movements, where the game believes your VR head is facing another direction (i.e. off to the side, and no, recentering the vr view has nothing to do with it). Because of this, it only draws objects in that direction, and the culling gets worse with zoom. I had this problem for a very long time, and many people did. That was the only thing that fixed it.

Just cut and paste the input folder to your desktop so you have a backup if it doesn't work. Then start a new game and let the input folder repopulate. Do a quick flight and see if it's fixed.

Yeah, I tried deleting the input folder, in fact I did a complete re-install but it did not help. It does feel like maybe there is some kind of disconnect between my head position and the game rendering. Objects disappear at certain viewing angles even when relatively close. Makes me wonder if there is another head positioning binding/setting in the game that I'm missing?

That's unfortunate. It worked for me, instantly. And several others if I remember correctly. It's a culling issue.

You can try making sure that head movements like "bow pilots head horizontally" etc have no keybindings, or aren't tied to mouse movements. It may be a long shot, but have you tried simply cutting and pasting the input folder to the desktop and loading up the game? Maybe it saved your keybindings when you uninstalled and re-installed.

Hey, I think I got it straightened out!  I re-installed the default input folder from the re-install (I had saved a copy), deleted all pilot head movement bindings and also bound all centering to one key, as per @Hartigan's suggestion.  Voila! No disappearing objects left and right of center and when zooming! This is good!

Thanks @TheWarsimmer and everyone on this forum for convincing me to try and re-try and re-try again. It worked!

I think I'll be enjoying my favorite sim a lot more.

That's great. I dont know what gets messed up- I removed all keybindings related to head movement and it still wasnt fixed. Removing the input folder and letting the game repopulate it was all that worked. It's a pain to rebind, but at least it makes the game playable. I bet that when you reinstalled it somehow kept the old inputs. Glad for ya

Footnote: maybe it should be default game behavior to ignore all pilot head movement bindings when in VR mode? I don't think they serve any purpose but to mess up VR rendering. Right?

Second Footnote: You need to bind pilot head movement in order to aim turret guns, which is messes up VR rendering. Thinking something needs fixing here.
