Il2 freezes whenever I tab out of it. I feel like this is something that started shortly after the newest patch was released but I'm not certain. Has anyone experienced a similar problem? If so, any solutions?

Yes. Devs so far haven't acknowledged it. @Asgar and @Memphis are experiencing the same.

TRY: Launching the Game Offline, you may have to pull the Lan Plug for that. Game should Tab fine.

I just did a complete OS reset and reinstall. Now it won't Tab at all in Online Mode. Tabbing with Windows Defender is impossible (I grew impatient after 10 Mins of being unable to Tab In or Out.

Running G Data Antivirus at Slow PC Settings helped a ton.

And yes, it is definetly a Problem with the Game.

I've also noticed the issue only occurs when I'm playing online. Offline tabs wonderfully. If I'm patient while playing online the game does eventually unfreeze itself. Of course, my plane has usually plowed into the ground by then. I had some back and forth with the 1CGS support team (they've been attentive, by the way) and after sending them several diagnostic reports they suggested reducing distant landscape and disabling full-screen mode. That and adjusting some other settings helped reduce the length of the freeze but did didn't fix it. My PC isn't old enough to not run IL2 at relatively high settings so I don't think it's at fault. They're latest suggestion (which I haven't done because it's so involved) is the following:

1. End all windows processes in the task manager that aren't necessary to the game.

2. Before launching the game: ensure the game is using the correct ports, setup or turn off security software, ensure you're logged into Windows as the administrator, run IL2 as the administrator.

3. Before installing the game, read the following: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135/en-us and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/815069/en-us.

4. If none of the above works, then reinstall the game in a folder with a shorter path.

Yeah, the Devs are aware and I have added your Reply. I have my MP Ports forwarded, but am still on the normal Steam Folder, I also run as Admin, cuts down the Time immensly.

I also use G Data Total Protection. It has a mode for Slow PCs which also cuts the time, where Defender just seems to Block.

Thanks for adding me. I'm running the standalone client, and even with a shorter path I'm still having the issue. I haven't toyed around with security settings though.

In case anyone else finds this thread, Klaus has a more mature thread here:
