Thank you all for your kind words, it encourages me to keep improving the mod. I will share news as soon as I have them.

Seems fantastic. I decided to give it a go.  I do always the mods manually.

Can one be kind and explain how I should proceed, and where to put the files.

Hi Icky,

I think the best way to manage any of the mods and future mods, is to use OvGME. This little auxiliary program is great for managing

mods in your original game without the risk of messing around with the original files and modded files. Here is my experience:

- I downloaded OvGME from there: https://github.com/mguegan/ovgme - just click on download and select the ZIP-file. (Link is dead)

- I installed the OvGME in my tools directory which I created especially for all tools like ZIP, TrackIR, MSI Afterburner on my hard disk.

- I created a folder called MODS in the main game directory - here you unzip all your mods without any risk of a mess.

- I configured OvGME:

InkedCapture1_LI.jpg.f2a5b2c96f0a47b6941300e6de727508.jpg

* This is your config title or name, because with OvGME you can have different profiles (configs) for different games

1. This is the main path of your game

2. This is the path pointing to the MODS folder in your main game directory

3. This is your backup folder (optional) and I suggest to place it outside of your game directory

You see, it is quite strait-forward and we don't need a science degree. After your profile is done, you can copy / unpack your modded files/folder

in the MODS folder in your game directory without any risk.

When you launch OvGME before you start your game, you can activate / deactivate your mods with ease. You will break nothing this way. After

you selected your mods you can close the program. Don't forget to check the mods option in your game or your mods won't work - and yes, this

means after mods checked ON you'll need to restart the game.

But if you're a bit familiar with cfg-files you can also create a shortcut pointing to your startup.cfg in the data folder of your main game directory.

This way you can do your modifications (checking options) without the need to start, modify and then again restart your game. Look for the key

"MODES = 0" and change it to 1 - very simple.

Hope this will help you a little bit.

Cheerio

P.S.: Some other fellows might suggest you to use JvGME, but this is quite outdated and old. OvGME is based on the idea of JvGME, but is

more recent and as already mentioned, you can manage different games with one tool. With the old one you need a separate installation

        for each game.

Addendum: @StaB/Tomio_VR*** just contacted me and told me that the link above is not working or not complete. I checked it and it seems

that there is no more executable file there. Even links in the ED Forum do not work anymore. So I did a ZIP-Archive of the original.

                     OvGME.zip

Sorry for this.

Very good winter mod map!  Thanks for this!  Now it's possible to have the winter of 1942.

Just in case some users are not familiar with installing mods...

When I unzipped the file, I got the file "Kuban".  Inside this file you will find "Kuban_w".  Take out the Kuban_w file (which is the mod needed) and put it into your MODS folder.

Also, as previously mentioned, select Kuban_autumn when choosing a map for a mission.

I love your work here, I haven't downloaded yet. Will it be possible to have this as a separate map somehow?

Its not easy to do a remote diagnosis but you could start with checking the folder structure.

The original folder structure

"c:\...\Il-2\data\folder1\folder2\folder3..."
must accord to the mod folders

"c:\...\Il-2\MODS\*modname*\data\folder1\folder2\folder3..."

But it's already in the MODS folder

Here is a printscreen with all the subfolders

Your printscreen doesnt show the entire path so it doesnt help. I just downloaded the archive to look into it. Well...

LF_Gallahad said in the description, that the archive is ready-to-use in JSGME, which seems to be wrong. There is an additional folder:
"...KUBAN\Kuban_W\data\graphics\LANDSCAPE_Kuban_a" Beyond that are all the files, shown in your printscreen.

You only need the red marked path. So this should work:

1. deactivate the mod in JSGME

2. get into the archive and then navigate into the folder KUBAN

3. copy/extract the folder Kuban_W to the JSGME mod folder "c:\...\Il-2 Sturmovik\MODS"

4. the new path should be "c:\...\Il-2 Sturmovik\MODS\Kuban_W\data\graphics\LANDSCAPE_Kuban_a"

5. reactivate the mod. Now JSGME should list the mod labeled as "Kuban_W"

First off, I hope you and yours are well. These are silly times indeed.

But, as I just found out why my JSGME wasn't working, and got it to work about an hour ago, I finally managed to install your Kuban map mod. I gotta say, that is a first class bit of work on your part. That's now one of my go-to maps. Thanks for the new eye candy.

Bit off topic but...I am from South Africa (still stuck in lockdown BTW) so I am not familiar in detail with European regions, but for the first time I realize that Kuban map in IL2 is same as Caucasus map for DCS. Seems like this is a very turbulent area throughout the ages?

1. deactivate the mod in JSGME

2. get into the archive and then navigate into the folder KUBAN

3. copy/extract the folder Kuban_W to the JSGME mod folder "c:\...\Il-2 Sturmovik\MODS"

5. reactivate the mod. Now JSGME should list the mod labeled as "Kuban_W"

The graphics shows in  LANDSCAPE_Kuban_a: landtexturesquality

                                                                                    ROADS

                                                                                    surfacetex

                                                                                    trees

                                                                                    carped

                                                                                    forestfill

                                                                                   water_hole

I played the Cuban Campaign and tried also a Cuban mission. But there was no winter shown in the landscape.

What do I make wrong?

First. to be clear, you placed the folder "Kuban_W" in the 'MODS' folder?

You are running the game with "Mods Enabled"?

Is the mission on the Autumn map?  The mod only works on that map.  If the mission is on the Spring or Summer map you will not see any snow.

Try this, set up a quick mission on the Kuban Autumn map and see if you see snow.

Can I ask please?

I have Meplanes 1969 Kuban winter mod and now I find this by LF Galahsd.

I know how excellent Meplanes mods are and this looks fantastic too.

What are the main differences between the two?

I can not test because there is no winter Kuban in quick mission.

I have both in JSGME,

Thank you for your great work.

Actually there is, sort of.

This is a repaint of Kuban Autumn.  Drop the folder ""Kuban_W" in the 'MODS' folder and ensure that mods are enabled in the game.

enable using the JSGME (only one repaint at a time) and in Quick Mission choose the Autumn Kuban map.

You will now have winter textures.  If you wish to use the other repaint, uninstall this one then install the alternate or if you wish to return to the stock map just take out the repaint.

That's the beauty of JSGME.  You an try it and if you don't like it or want to try something different you can without having to chase down all the files used to make changes to the way the game renders.

Hello everybody!

I am new on Sturmovik Forum Community. I am writing because I have problems installing the mod. I read all the previous messages in this and other forums but I keep not seeing the name of the mod map among the ones available for quick missions. So, I am going to write here the procedure I followed in the hope someone could help me explaining where is my error so me and other users can benefit from the answer.

I download the zip file, I decompressed it and I copied the folder Kuban_W in the Mod folder I created in C:\ProgramFiles\Steam\steamapps\common\Il-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\MODS as suggested in previous messages in the forum. So now I have c:\...\IL2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\MODS\kUBAN_w\data\graphics\LANDSCAPE_Kuban_a, which matches as the structure of the graphic folder in which original files are installed. Then, I activated the option mods through the game Settings>Game. I installed JSGME in C:\ProgramFiles\Steam\steamapps\common\Il-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad and I activated through JSGME the mod. After the mod was activated, I furtherly saw that the files of the mod were created automatically in the new folder c:\...\IL2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\kUBAN_w\data\graphics\LANDSCAPE_Kuban_a (the folder is removed automatically if I deactivate the mod through JSGME).

So, now I would expect of seeing the mod when opening the list of available maps of the quick mission menu, but there is not. I have also tried with the mod map Green Moscow available on another IL-2 Sturmovik forum to check if there was a problem with the zip file, but I understood there is something wrong I do because I keep having the same problem.

Does anybody know where I am making the mistake?

I thank you in advance for your support!

Posted (edited)

No  mistake made.  Ir appears you installed it correctly.

You will not see a different map name.  It modifies the Kuban Autumn map and if installed will change the look of that map.  It will still be called Kuban Autumn.

So when you install the mod through the JSGME and pick the Kuban Autumn map, is there snow on it?

You will also need to nave ticked the box 'Enable mods*' in the game.

Start game > main splash screen > Settings > Game > Customization (upper left box) 'Enable mods*'.

When checked the first time (and each time after that) it will require a restart to take effect.  Then during the startup you will get a "warning" that mods are enabled right after you choose "Enter" or "Offline".  Click OK and you're off!

Hope this helps.

Hello @Beebop, thank you for your fast reply!

Yes, I have already ticked the box "Enable mods*" in the game settings and I have the "warning" message every time I start playing the game.

But what do you mean by "You will not see a different map name. [...] if installed will change the look of that map"? Do you mean that I must have the original map of Kuban installed to play the MOD of Winter Kuban? Because I have IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad only and I can see in the quick mission menu only the maps in the photo I attach below.

I attach also two photos (one with the mod deactivated and another one with the mod activated) of the map folders I have in the folder "graphics" (c:\...\IL2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\kUBAN_w\data\graphics\) of the game. Here I can see many folders of different maps but only few seem activated and so playable in the version of the game I have.

P.S. I noticed that in the "ROADS" folder, that can be found looking inside every folder of the original maps there are .bin files whereas in the "roads" folder of the mod map (c:\...\IL2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\kUBAN_w\data\graphics\LANDSCAPE_Kuban_a) there are no files with .bin extension. I don't know if it may be the cause of the problem.

I thank you in advance!

THAT is the problem.

Your game actually holds all the components of the game BUT, to make them usable to YOU you must purchase them.  So although you have the graphic textures for the Kuban Winter mod, you do not yet have access to the map.

I would HIGHLY recommend that you take advantage of the next sale and purchase as much as you can afford.  The 'Standard' versions of any component contain everything but a couple of "Collector" planes and they can be bought at a discount during sales as well.  Actually during the sales it would be cheaper to buy the Premium version and then you have the collector planes associated with that module.

Now just because you don't own anything but Stalingrad at the moment, if you play online you can still fly any of the maps that the host/server puts up.  You can also see all the planes and interact with the objects in that mission.  What you wouldn't be able to do is fly a plane you haven't bought as part of a module or as a separate purchase.

I spent nearly 18 years flying the original IL-2 Sturmovik and since I've started flying this version I haven't looked back.  if you enjoy WWII flight sims you have found, in my opinion, the best one on the market.

I hope this helps.

Ah ok, I get the problem now.

I saw on the internet some map mods made by SAS1946 and so I thought the mods available on Il-2 Forums were add-ons, and not overhauls, so they could be played also without the original map file that is needed instead as base.

As I said I am new on Sturmovik, so maybe my previous questions may seem obvious now...I just hope they may be helpful also for future players at the beginning of their career.

Regarding the sales I totally agree. I bought three collector planes (MC.202, Ju52/3m, P-38J-25) in the last sale and I confirm they are awesome. Yes, I think Il-2 Sturmovik is definitely the best WWII flight sim too now, as DCS is for contemporary fighter aircrafts and FS2020 for civil aircraft. I will take a look for sure at the next sale then.

Thank you very much @Beebop for your support! You have been very helpful and courteous.

Not a problem.  Glad I could help.

There's a LOT to learn about this game so read through the forms and if you don't find an answer or one that goes to your inquiry, keep asking questions.

The only 'stupid/obvious" questions are the ones you don't ask.

This community has been very helpful to me and continue to do so.  I'm sure you will have a similar experience.
