I tried the editor trick (ctrl-a, shift+pgupx5) and campaign indeed does start, but the group spawns in forest right next to the airfield. Flight leader tried to taxi heroically and cut down like eight trees in process. I was stuck between trees and couldn't move at all. I wonder how hard it might be to change the spawn points (mid air maybe?) and get the campaign working again? I'd love to play this, I'm a sucker for Bf110 ?

Hi Netscape! Develpers made improvements to AI in the last update! Coud you check it please and tell us if there is a chance to bring back Siren of Death or your others proyects/campaings with HS129 and Bf-110? ?

I have not been playing IL-2 let alone working on content. I'd like to start doing Staffel sized fly outs with people again for LW attack/bombers once Starlink internet arrives out here on the farm...

Who knows, maybe I'll get back into it (would have to get used to all the new editor changes that I am unaware of). If suddenly AI works "decent" enough again - Stuka missions priority above everything else.

EDIT: did some testing. I got a whole Staffel to actually drop bombs on a target, but from 2000+m altitude. not acceptable.

a different test resulted in a ketten attacking tanks, they all nose dived into the ground... so things aren't looking any better. didn't even bother with taxi/take off & climb tests... back to strategy & racing games...

Just a quick post to say I'm really enjoying this campaign. Some brilliant moments and very nice weather settings. Thank you!

Couple of tweaks:

  • I've added NDB's to the bases. Makes your life a lot easier coming back home.
  • Great skins, but I've painted over the swastikas.

Love to use it, but I keep getting error message when extracting with 7Zip: "cannot determine compressed stream type".

Any ideas?

I had the same issues with the latest 7zip (v20?). Installed v19, portable, no problems. Windows 10, probably a 7-zip bug with the latest update.

I just finished this campaign last night and really enjoyed it. So many thanks for your time and work!!!

Very good missions and well written story. I liked the structured briefings, whith the same sections with taxi and navigation information every time. I was surprised how much this helped to keep formation. Also very immersive.

I didn't think I'd like the Bf110 but it's a great ground attack platform that lets you escape nasty situations with reasonable top speed. It has a really cool cockpit too.

Oh, I confirm all missions work fine in 5.004 version.

I just finished Mission 7. Wow! [Spoiler alert] It's the first time I'm running into American fighter planes in the game! The paint scheme was menacing, I'll forever remember that!

Taking it slow but I'm reeeeally enjoying this campaign.

After hunting the Gestapo for a while, I turned to this campaign for a change. Also an incredibly good one. Thus I had the chance to compare the Mossie with the Bf110. Actually no resemblance.

The Bf110 is heavy, like REALLY heavy. It turns like a rock, climbs like a rock and turns alike. But it's really, really sturdy. The only plane I think it really resembles is.....the Huricane !! Steady gun platform, stable and able to stay in the air even when dropping to 150 km/h. Wonderful. Only way to turn in less than an hour I found to be a light chandelle. Great aircraft for a dive bomber, resembling Mr Goering in sheer size, but no way a.....heavy fighter. Just heavy.

Did the first 2 missions. The second one, that was something to remember.  Lightly hurt by flak in starboard engine, manage to break havoc on the ground. Even hit the targets with bombs on both occasions! that's quite new to me. Then guns to everybody!

But I've over stayed my presence, and two fighters came to the rescue. Gunther, the gunner, did his best. Maybe I could have tried to put the pilot on auto and take his place?? guess that could have meant my demise, actually......So , while Gunther shoot what he could, but to no avail I think, I've hit the deck. Like really low, tree top, 25-30 meters, and swung wildly. Of course I got hit, all fuel tanks but the front left one, and both engines. Still, both engines still running! Even tried to make a pass at one of the fighters, as he overshot me, but lacking both height and speed, resumed my evading maneuvers and counted on the gunner.

Gunther announces that we caught fire, and before I could asses the situation, what does he do? He bails out, from 50 m or so. We were already into german held territory. Crazy guy.....but I guess it's better to jump rather then burn. As I tried to see the fire in the back, I guess the burning tank run dry, because there was no fire. The fighters gave up about the same time.

So I've put some course towards home, with both engines damaged but still running fine at 1.0 ata. 5 min later, engine no 2 dies. Damage ? Lack of fuel ? I guess it was the latter, or both. An then, a nice surprise: running on one damaged engine at about 1.1 ata the aircraft did about 260 km/h nicely and climbed lightly. Wow, that's a sturdy aircraft....

Anyways, to make a long and very eventful story short(er), got home in one piece, landed safely and lived to tell the tale. Wonder where is Gunther.....

Guys, it was great. Really great. Great game, great mission, and even the much blamed AI did it's part very good.

This is what I call real entertaining. Many thanks to the devs, an to @NETSCAPE, for the thrill I got.

Hi All, I downloaded and installed via mission editor and all is working fine, I completed the first two mission but at the start to mission three [attack soviet bombers]

no one wants to take off, the escort leader [Me109] just does tail spins and then his engine stops ?   I start my engines but no one in my flight starts theirs ?

I decided to take off anyway,  clawed my way up to 4000m and you guessed it, not a single soviet bomber showed up ?. So I shall just give that mission a miss and lets hope that the rest are flyable ?     other than that,   what I have flown up till now I have enjoyed !!!!!

Cheers

same happened to me. Damn ice....!. Solution: restart the mission. On the the third attempt the leader of the Bf 109 spinned, but managed to recover, engine still running, they took off and then the hole mission got underway fine.

So: restart the mission.

NO ! the mission is cool. It's quite a different piece of cake to attack those fast Pe-2 with a Bf-110.....Slow to catch them, less maneuverable , strong hitting power, thou....

the following 3 missions, are also very good.

One great thing I've descovered: if you take the place of the gunner, and turn towards the pilot, you'll see the spare ammo for the 20mm Mf-FF cannons deposited there! once you ask him to reload, the boxes are dissapearing!

Thanks Andrei, I made a few restarts and then the mission worked !     I flew with my fight on auto pilot and we got nowhere near 4000m so did not managed to engage the bombers, I shall fly the mission again and make sure I'm at 6000m plus at the interception point.

It's a small world, I am reading a very good book at the moment all about the Roman invasion of Dacia, which did make up a large part of Romania.

Cheers

True! To catch the bombers I had to climb fast as soon as I got a glimpse at them. Funny/curious thing, the rest of the swarm was quick to follow! Guess they trusted my instincts! :) Be careful not to upset/engage the escort, thou...

Back here , if you listen to some of our now-a-days nationalists, the inhabitants (dacii) already had aircrafts!!!! :) ==joking==

The roman invasion failed at a first attempt and eventually some years later, under the direct command of emperor Traian, managed to conquer what in now a days is Romania minus Transilvania. Some large territories remained occupied by the " free dacs" but engaged in regular economic exchanges and... fights. They brought technology, unity and prosperity, but of course destroyed the old ways (the dacs were quite evolved tribes, actually) Happy reading and fell free to ask any questions (i'm a fan of history)

Wonderful campaign. The mission description is actually a novel. You get great immersion and really get connected with the characters. (I did). One of the best campaigns.

Mission 11th, The black day. It's incredible. Kind of.... @Sandmarken style. Has a clear purpose, like strong motivation, if you followed the previous text and characters, and connected to them. Heart pumping , action packed, even if not so obvious from the start. You don't just kill the enemies, you try to save your best buddy. And the night is creeping in, fast.....and you get excited 'cause they lite up some lights at the airfield (coudn't find it otherwise, not for the life of it, and the fuel was sooooo low....)but , surprise, the lights weren't for you ;)

Suuper awesome, indeed.

Bad luck, and not only flak.

Listen up, guys, what a sadness! :)

one of the last missions, Raid on Rzhev. 2 flights of Bf-110, had to attack the airfield, well defended one. The cool stuff is that , with proper timing you could shoot down the MIG's as they take off. Otherwise, 8 Bf-110's vs dozens of flak and about 8 MIGs, no go.

Sooo, very exciting , I haven't got many opportunities such this often.

But.....the flak was deadly. So, long story short, at my 7th attempt(😭) i shot no less than 6 MIGs, 5 taking off, one parked, and a flak. Got damaged pretty bad, left flap gone, engines damaged but still running, pilot (me) heavy injured.

managed to limp back home, found the runway, despite blurry vision, shaking plane veering left and so on. Being very anxious to land, came a bit fast, and overshoot the landing strip, but while being with the wheels on the ground at about 180 kph. Having such large and sturdy wheels, and tall aircraft, I continued taxiing in the thick snow ahead with no impunity. Dang! Up ahead, TREES ! No way to steer, I just waited the catastrophe to happen .

and then, the Guardian Angel of virtual-pilots-repeating-mission-many times kicked in. I shoot almost unharmed through a couple of trees, slight steer left, and then through another pair!!!

Incredible luck! Only right rudder lost.

Just to get Mission failed, Forced Landing. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Truth to be told, after such ordeal and such, such crazy luck 🐤 a mission accomplished would have been well deserved. After all, I got back at Dulgino!

but, well, still it was a story to tell.

P.S. 8th time , mission accomplished, but nothing so incredible like the previous run.
