Wow! Wasn't expecting such a huge map. Hope the 'compromises' aren't too severe, it's going to be tremendous fun flying over this.

Remagen's on the map - don't forget the bridge! Low-level bombing missions with the 262 for this one .

Cheers.

Absolutely stunning map! I'm highly anticipating flying on/over it - as someone generally not as much interested in the Western Front.

Good to know we will see four seasons. Summer 1944, Autumn 1944, Winter 1944/45, Spring 1945 are correctly displayed in terms of airfields therefore I guess.
But how will the spring map look like? The area in question during the given timeframe didn't look like other spring time maps we have already. It was more of a transition phase.

@Han / @BlackSix
There are some missing airfields on the map, incl. ones we talked about BlackSix. Are you aware or do you want me to contact you in regard to this?

Just have to tune in...

YOU GUYS ARE AWSOME!

Fighting over the Netherlands (Market-Garden, Walcheren ect...) and Germany and...

GOOD TIMES COMIN, thanks Han!

Great news! I can't wait to see it! :pilot:

What are the sizes of the other three maps in kms? It would help to compare the sizes

Stalingrad Map:

Moscow Map:

Kuban Map

Bodenplatte Map: flyable area is 401 x 324 km - it is 129.900 sq.km

"The Netherlands consists out of twelve provinces: Groningen, Friesland, Drenthe, Overijssel, Flevoland, Gelderland, Utrecht, North-Holland, South-Holland, Zealand, North Brabant and Limburg."

So, as I can see, we need to use "Fighting in Netherlands" name for this chapter. This error occurs because we simply translated into English the common and standard name in Russian historiography - "Holland operation".

Some small corrections:

Then It should be "Fighting in The Netherlands" and the 12th province Flevoland did not exist during WWII.

But Flevoland is not on the DD's map so everyting is okay though. ;)

So, what is the difference between Holland and The Netherlands? I always thought they were synonyms ...

Thanks! This is nice.

I can't wait to fly over Europe. That timeframe is looking good. I'm a fan of Late war europe. Can't wait to bomb the bridges on the Rhine

The map size is really good and lot of action is going to take place there!

Keep up the good work

Holland is one of the provinces of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, I think. The whole country is sometimes referred to as Holland erronoiusly.

Great stuff... so, we will be covering the Market Garden battle. This means that there will have to be Stirlings, and Dakotas to drop paratroops and tow gliders... I mean, it won't be Market Garden if those 3 elements are not included, at least as AI targets... very happy :)

ok, please, we don't need a 3 page discussion on why the provinces of Netherlands were developed..This is about Bodenplatte!

Damn! This map is incredible huge! I'm so curious how the dense populated areas are being modeled and what impact on the performance is to expect.

Just awesome!

I'm also curious, if the Ruhrgebiet and the big cities like Cologne and Frankfurt are going to be modeled in a severely damaged condition as they were at this stage in the war.

You mean 3 posts?

There is no need to overreact to sth that hasn't happened yet.

I think that with the info provided, its crystal clear now. :) This discussion is over.

I am very surprised (positively) with the map scale. It opens new possibilities. For instance,  one of the (many) reasons why heavy bombers are still not feasible in BoX was that the map sizes were totally inapropriate for them. We seem to be moving away from that limitation.

I can't wait to fly in this!

Bodenplatte Map: flyable area is 401 x 324 km - it is 129.900 sq.km

Stalingrad Map: ~230x360km ~82800 sq.km

Moscow Map: ~280x250km  ~70000 sq.km (280x280km, if you count area where you cant fly, over Moscow)

Kuban Map: ~290x416km  ~120640 sq.km

So BoBp map is bigest one, and most demanding when you look how many citys are in that area, and most of it is land, big task

Looks very interesting.  I'm curious about the Arnhem phase.  How will this be handled in game without C-47s or gliders?  Will the career begin with a cut-scene, then the actual gameplay takes place in the period after the landings have already happened?

Jolly good!

Looking forward to the 11 day period from the 17th to the 28th of September where 19RAF were on the map before being sent back home.

(Which is a lot more days than they flew on the Eastern Front at least!)

If you mean No. 19 Sqn there will not be this unit in the career as they had Mustang IIIs. We'll do P-51D only, not P-51B/C.

Besides the many airfields will the fake airfields (schijnvliegveld/Scheinlugplatz (SF)) also be included?

Map from the book 'Airfields in wartime; Dutch airfields during the occupation and liberation 1940-1945'

Outstanding news. That map is just brilliant in all respects so far. I'm very much looking forward to crafting missions based on it.

The whole team deserve a shot of vodka/scotch (depending on personal tastes). Please see to it Jason :D

Still closer than pretending to fly RAF Kittyhawks over Moscow in MP. :P

That map is a lot bigger than I was expecting it to be, cool!

An awesome looking map, far larger than I thought it would be and chock full of airfields too!

I'm very excited to see more when it comes! It should prove amazing I have no doubt!

Were the para drops of market garden even attack or escorted my aircraft?

I know the Polish bregaide was cut to bits by AA on the landing field but I don't recall any account of troop planes being shot down by aircraft.

Can anyone put me out of my ignorance.

This is a completely different situation. We're obliged to provide an opportunity in the career to use collector planes that are part of this premium edition.

P-51 isn't a collector plane and I've no any plans to show No.19, 65 and 122 Squadrons in the BOBP career, sorry.

Sorry, I wasn't expecting 19 Squadron to actually be in the career - just making a comment that it will be easier to be immersed in Multiplayer flying an RAF Mustang IV over Europe as 19 Squadron than flying an RAF Kittyhawk over Russia.

In Multiplayer you can do whatever you want, I wanted to explain the situation with the career and the availability of certain units :)

Thank you for the professionalism, passion and attention to detail shown in the way you conduct yourselves as a historical combat flight simulation development team.  No one else is doing it better than you all IMHO.

Good luck and happy landings,

Really nice map, I am really impressed by its size.

I didn't expect this much of the Netherlands to be on the map but I am not complaining

I get to fly over my hometowns!

I do have one remark though. Don't call it "Fighting over Holland". That is not what my country is called.

Based on the airfield locations, you don't even have airfields in the actual area of Holland (aka North and South Holland provinces).

:salute:

You are right, but it could be a simple translation issue.

For example Netherlands is usually referred to as Holanda in Spanish. There might be a similar issue when translating from Russian.

I didn't know the difference till this day. :) And in the Soviet/Russian military historical books it's always written as Голландия (Holland)

Im hoping that the Li2 will be developed by then (3rd party devs) and can be converted into the C47, or at the very least re-skinned.

Hello,

these are fantastic news. Much bigger map then thought.

Cant wait for all the new planes

Just one stupid question.

1, Han pointed out there will be late war pilot models. Do they have life jackets on?
