Those having Crash Problems, we'd like to see what programs you are running

Here's my input. Repeated system/game crashes. New HP computer. Steam and CLODB/DWT was transferred from my older WIN 10 HP to this new one. Game ran on older HP/WIN10 computer (with the occasional system crash). Down loaded DWT from Steam on the older unit last month (Dec) and began to have issues such as losing all binding keys and screen freezes. Stopped game playing till my new computer arrived early this month. Then transferred everything to the new unit. I now experience repeated crashes, typically from the FLY button after the mission is set up.

The loss of binding keys is a function happens sometimes when the game updates.

If you use the Joystick Wizard to configure your joystick, you should miss this problem.

Another cause sometimes is Windows will shut down your USB power to the joystick or other devices '...to save power'. This will cause the loss of the inputs.

Did you read through the 'Getting Started and Troubleshooting Guide' in 'manuals' folder in your main game install folder?

Hi,

I can't get the game to work properly. I'm talking about Blitz without Tobruk.
I can run it and navigate through the menus but the game crashes as soon as I try to run up a mission.

No overlay and as administrator.

Hello Storknest

First thing I notice is you have a huge number of underlying programs running at the same time as the game.

For example, your dictation software... Mozilla, your VPN service, etc.

I would shut off the programs you don't need. Do you need your VPN service running when you are playing the game?

32 bit third party programs seem to disagree with CLIFFS.

What type of monitor are you running? What resolution? Does Desktop rez match game rez?

What is the refresh rate? Some people who are running a refresh rate over 60 hz have an issue.

Can you confirm you looked through the 'Getting Started and Troubleshooting Guide'?

I've disabled some underlying programs (32bits) and uninstalled some of them (VPN...).

My monitor is a Dell Ultrasharp U3219Q 4K. I run it in native resolution and the game as well (3840x2160). Refresh rate of 60 htz.

Everything is up to date including the monitor firmware. Net. Framework 4.8.

Ok, so you are running 4k resolution... which obviously isn't an impossible situation, but it can put demands on your system.

Have you tried changing some of the graphics settings? Specifically the AAA settings... some of them don't always work well with certain systems.

I will pass your crash reports on to our coders and see if they have an idea of what is causing you problems.

May take some time as they are really busy working on implementing trueSKY.

long shot, but maybe try these independently (first and then maybe together if needed) while you wait for feedback from Buzzsaw:

- set the game to Windows 7 compatibility mode (Launcher.exe in the Steamapps etc. folder for Cliffs of Dover, right click ir, properties then compatibility settings)

- disable Steam Cloud for the game (in Steam, right click the game in the Library and select properties, then uncheck SteamCloud - should be on the first tab already)

- save all your .ini files under the user/my documents/cliffs of dover folder (can‘t recall the exact path). as a backup somewhere and just delete the whole Cliffs of Dover folder there. Launch the game with SteamCloud off and see if the missions run (Steam will rebuild the folder with stock configuration files, the .inis). If it works, put your backed up .inis back in there and check to see if it still works.

I know these are generic suggestions, but sometimes they work with players having crashes. Also that has solved some of the problems I‘ve had through the years with random crashes.

Its unclear to me what you are saying the problem is... were you unable to download the game from Steam or does the game not launch?

If the game does not launch, then the most likely cause is your anti-virus blocking it.... either Microsoft Defender or another 3rd party AV.

That usually is a result of 1) the AV blocking part of the game downloading from Steam or 2) the AV blocking the launch of the games .exe.

First can be solved by turning off AV and re-installing, the second by entering an exception to programs the AV may block into the AV for the entire CLIFFS OF DOVER folder.

I would however, first recommend the first thing you do is read the 'Getting Started and Troubleshooting Guide', which is located in the main CLIFFS OF DOVER folder in 'manuals'.

There are many solutions for common issues detailed there... including problems with AV.

I reloading the game with my AV disabled on Steam.

When I hit the "Start" game button it flashes up a start panel, churns then about 5 seconds later the "Start" button highlights again without the game starting up.

An error is recorded as per my previous message.

The AV has exceptions to allow the "Launcher64.exe", and there seems to be nothing by the AV blocking its function.

Why "IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Blitz" has problems yet "IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad" has none is strange to me.

I'm not a programmer, I can add some code with clear basic instructions to get things working but this seems pretty bugged from all the cases I have read here.

I've been through the list in the manual for "...won't launch!" none of which worked.

"IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Blitz won’t launch!
1) Disable any Sweetfx or Injectfx you have running
2) Remove dxg9.dll from your game folder
3) Try disabling any Printers you might have installed
4) Update your Graphics Drivers, and try lowering your in-game Graphics settings
5) Disable your Anti-Virus
Find the anti-virus in your task bar or windows task list and disable it. It will restore when you re-boot. Now we appreciate this isn’t ideal but this is simple fault-finding. So, if CloD fails to run with your AV, go into your AV settings and add an exception to the root folder containing your CloD Steam install and also the 1C softclub folder in MyDocuments.
6) Run the Launcher in "administrator" mode

I'm not a programmer, I can add some code with clear basic instructions to get things working but this seems pretty bugged from all the cases I have read here.

I've been through the list in the manual for "...won't launch!" none of which worked.

"IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Blitz won’t launch!
1) Disable any Sweetfx or Injectfx you have running
2) Remove dxg9.dll from your game folder
3) Try disabling any Printers you might have installed
4) Update your Graphics Drivers, and try lowering your in-game Graphics settings
5) Disable your Anti-Virus
Find the anti-virus in your task bar or windows task list and disable it. It will restore when you re-boot. Now we appreciate this isn’t ideal but this is simple fault-finding. So, if CloD fails to run with your AV, go into your AV settings and add an exception to the root folder containing your CloD Steam install and also the 1C softclub folder in MyDocuments.
6) Run the Launcher in "administrator" mode

To add to your to try list, @PacKetLoSShot, while you wait for Buzzsaw‘s answer:

1) Delete the whole 1CSoftClub Folder under My Documents. Make sure you save all the .ini files located in there (in the Cliffs of Dover subfolder) as a backup before that. They contain all your settings. Try launching the game before you put them back in and see if it works (Steam will rebuild the folder).

2) Set the Launcher.exe to Windows7 compatibility mode (right click, properties, compatibility tab). See if it launches (this one solved my problem).

Maybe one of these solve it without too much trouble. These are suggestions that have worked for others in the past. So not necessarily related to your error messages specifically.

Just to confirm: You installed the game as Admin, correct?

Regarding above display:

I see a lot of unnecessary programs running continuously in the background. If you can, adjust the settings for them so they do not start up with Windows.... when you need them, start them up... not before. For example, Discord.

Another example, Ipod... Itunes... do you use these still? As far as I know Itunes stopped offering downloads a while ago. A related program called APSDaemon.exe is also running on your machine... this was shown to cause problems... look up on the internet how to disable.

I see you have the Saitek X52 profilers running.

Can you try shutting these off and then seeing if you can start the game? If the game starts, then start the X52 programs.

What is wargamingerrormonitor.exe ?

If this is a program which monitors your gaming, it could be interfering... shut it off.

There are other programs which could also be an issue... anything which is 32bit is not liked by the game.

turned off the Discord, wargamingerrormonitor.exe (War Thunder updater),

deleted some legacy 32bit programmes.

Did this

1) Delete the whole 1CSoftClub Folder under My Documents. Make sure you save all the .ini files located in there (in the Cliffs of Dover subfolder) as a backup before that. They contain all your settings. Try launching the game before you put them back in and see if it works (Steam will rebuild the folder).

2) Set the Launcher.exe to Windows7 compatibility mode (right click, properties, compatibility tab). See if it launches (this one solved my problem).

Controlled Folders… maybe check if ransomware protection is enabled and the block history (like it shows in the article and see if CloD is in there).

The message is an indication your AV is still blocking the game.

And it may have blocked parts of the original installation.... which is why the application does not go further.

Did you install the game with your AV turned off? If you didn't, you might need to do that.

Uninstall the game through Steam... then turn AV off... then install the game...try right clicking on the launcher.exe again, properties, check to see if the program is blocked, unblock it, etc... try to run it, if it works, then turn AV back on.

Also, do you have a third party AV as well as Microsoft Defender? If you have two, you need to put exceptions in both, and turn off both when installing.

I deleted and reloaded the programme as admin with both AV turned off.

Started CloD as Admin but still it does the same thing, without the message panel I posted previously.

I notice a VPN service... are you running this when you play the game? This is unnecessary... you should connect normally without a VPN.

Regarding your 3rd party AV program:

It is sometimes the case, that even when you enter an exception for a program, if previously you had no exception and the AV had blocked the program, it will still not allow that program to run. The only way to solve this stubborn blockage is to completely uninstall the AV, including deleting the folder on your drive, re-install the program, (CoD) and then run CoD.

Then re-install the AV and enter the exception before running the game again.

Personally I don't run any 3rd Party AV anymore, Windows Defender has now improved to the point there is no need to have a 3rd party AV.

Finally: Did you shut off all the Steam overlays and cloud connection?

My apologies for the long delay in replying, I have been away from the boards for a while.

Your system should have no problem in running the game, it is likely the issue is a 3rd party program interrupting your network connection.

Looking at your list of programs, I see "Killer Network Services and XTend Network Services"... which are programs which in the past has caused problems for people using a WiFi connection to connect online and also for those who have a plugin connection.

Do you need to run these programs while playing the game?

I tried to start clod blitz for the first time since the 5.025 patch and it won't start. It will do a momentary black screen before going back to the desktop. Have you tried deleting or renaming your conf.ini inside ..\\Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover? I've had a non start problem recently and it was just this!

3rd, are you running a third party Anti Virus program, and/or have you added an exception to allow the entire CLIFFS OF DOVER BLITZ folder to launch? Sometimes an update to the game will cause the AV to take a dislike to the program... or to see it as a different program... then it blocks a launch.

Finally, you have 3rd party software running in the background... sometimes these, in particular the 32 bit programs, will conflict with CLIFFS. I would recommend you shut off anything you see in the list which is not necessary. For example:

What is the problem you are having? Are you having crashes after the game launches? Or is there a failure to launch?

If you are having a failure to launch, please look at your Anti-Virus settings... add an exception for the entire IL-2 CLIFFS OF DOVER folder in the AV.

Have you looking at the 'Getting Started and Troubleshooting Guide' ? (located in the 'manuals' folder in your main il-2 CLIFFS folder) We recommend you do that first if you are having problems.

Looking at your programs... you have a lot of extra programs running which are probably not necessary at the time you are using the game.

Anything which you don't need to be running while gaming should be shut off... best in the settings for these programs to have them NOT start when Windows starts... have them only start when you want to use them.

Thank you for your quick response.

I checked those things, AV is fine.

When launched from Steam, this program shows "Preparing to launch" in a popup window , that window quickly closes and the program ends (according to steam and my task manager). No error messages, it just stops.

I have IL-2 Cliffs of Dover Blitz and that program works perfectly.

I think this could be a problem with the initial setup/installation of the resources needed for this program.

Those having Crash Problems, we'd like to see what programs you are running
