FWIW... I have a MSI Turing GPU and would never, ever use overlays of any kind, from MSI or tuning softwares or other. If I do then some games will crash. Overclocking is no problem, but the overlays (in game fps, cpu and GPU usage reporting etc) will surely crash some games. This is also true of other similar brands like Asus, Gigabyte... Clod tobruk runs like a dream on my pc... but as stated above... Do not use overlay... be it Steam or msi monitoring utilities or whatever. Hope you get it sorted out because, imho, Tobruk is worth it!

Edit: just to add, the crashes are happening when going to start a flight, the game seems to minimize and then crash. I've disabled the steam overlay, don't have MSI. I'd say the crashes are happening in one in every 4 flights.

in task manager I disabled all MSI process running and, just to be sure, all 32 bit programs. no afterburner running, no steam overlay, fresh installation without antivirus running, antivirus after installation with all possible exceptions,,,,I say again I've tried all current available suggestions. You can all undestand I'm a little bit frustrated...

Anyone having in-game crash problems which we cannot solve by you posting your logfiles here, please do the following:

- Go into Documents/1C SoftClub/il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover/

- Open the folder called 'cppcrash'.

- Delete the contents.

- Start the game and run it until you get a crash.

- Exit, go to the cppcrash folder again and copy the crash file.

- Contact me by PM on this forum and provide your email.

- I will give you a response email where you can send the cppcrash file and where our coders can analyze it.

- Can you post your system specs? Typically when you are able to launch the game and it crashes only after you go to the flying screen, then it can be system performance issue.

- I am seeing a lot of 3rd party programs running. I would recommend you shut them down if you don't need them running when you play the game. The game does not like 3rd party programs, especially 32 bit.

- I would recommend you also shut down your browser.

Regarding the logfile.... it indicates the game cannot find a joystick key... it is possible the game is not recognizing your joystick or you are running a 3rd party joystick program which is crashing the game.

If this is the case, then could you try shutting the joystick program off, or try re-programming through the game/joystick interface?

Thank you for your response.

I just changed my motherboard and processor. With the old (obviously less powerful), COD had no problems and and all the programs you saw were already installed.

The only new ones are the ones delivered by the motherboard manufacturer so I'll look that way.

As for the joystick, it is a Thrusmaster Warthog and the parameters of its associated software (TARGET) are the same as before the change of motherboard. Also, normally, this should not have any influence on the game. But I'll unplug the rudder and the HOTAS and not pre-launch TARGET or TrackIR V5 to see if it has an impact.

Below are the main features of my machine:
Motherboard: ROG STRIX Z490E
Processor: Intel I5-10600 K@4.10GHZ
Memory: 32 GBytes DDR4
Graphic Map: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070.

I'll keep you informed of my essays.

- rudder , hotas and TrackIR unplugged: no change
- all the programs working in the background that I was able to close, closed: no change
- Uninstall of all "new" programs provided by the motherboard manufacturer: no change.

I already uninstall and reinstall Steam as well as COD.

Without your help, I don't see what more I can do.

CompPkgSrv.exe file is part of a Windows update and it will appear suddenly due to the Windows update taking place. This is called the Windows Component Package Support Server software. This is not related to spyware, malware, viruses, etc.

This software module will be found at : C:\Windows\System32\comppkgsrv.exe

plugin-nm-server.exe is an executable file that is part of the Kaspersky Password Manager program developed by Kaspersky Lab.

Located in C:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Password Manager 8\ subfolder;
Publisher: Kaspersky Lab
Full Path: C:\software\utility\kaspersky password manager\stpass.exe

It makes sense as I use Kaspersky Security Cloud Free and Kaspersky Password Manager.

My NetFrameworks is 4.8

I disabled Steam Overlay

I tryed to run CLoD without opening TeamSpeak/Discord, Open Track or MSI Afterburner...

... and I had no different results... ☹

So, after the last update CLOD started crashing on launch. (I've posted on steam also, but this place might be better).

I have managed to get it running after restarting my computer, but then after exiting and starting again it fails to launch, or it launches but freezes then crashes when it goes to the ‘Fly’ screen.

I run Kaspersky AV and have excepted the entire steam folder.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled.

I’ve been through most of the suggestions online with no luck.

If I turn the Samsung off, it seems to run fine on the laptop screen. However I’ve had it running on the Samsung curved screen prior, so I don’t know if something has changed with the latest update.

Further to my post above, I did some trouble shooting and noted my steps. TL:DR version. Seems a third party screen management tool was having an effect. Once turned of the issues seem to manifest around the deleting of the Cache file (or not deleting as the case may be.). I copied out the 'cppcrash' and 'cache' file after each crash if someone wants to review them.

Repeatable sequence to crash.

Blitz/Desert Wings:

1. Disable ‘Easy setting box’ for monitor

2. Delete \1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\cache

3. Clear \1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\cppcrash

4. Open Blitz/Desert Wings

5. Fly and exit 3 quick missions (Hurricane, 109, Kittyhawk)

6. Exit program

7. Restart Blitz/Desert Wings

8. Quick mission – fly

9. Frozen cockpit

10. Crash

11. Delete \1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\cache

12. Clear \1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\cppcrash

Are you placing an exception for the IL-2 CLIFFS OF DOVER folder in Kapersky?

If that does not work, have you tried disabling Kapersky?

Please try disabling Kapersky completely and in addition, make sure you have placed an exception in Windows Defender for the entire CLIFFS OF DOVER folder prior to running the game.

Hello Haddy

You have an enormous number of 3rd party programs running in the background of your PC.

Everything from Skype to Dropbox to Autodesk. Any one of those could be causing problems.

I would recommend you shut as many of them down as possible... set them so they do not automatically start when your PC does... start them manually when you need them instead of them running all the time... everything adds a load to your PC and could conflict with BLITZ or TOBRUK.

Hi, I've turned everything off that was available in the startup apps dialog. I now get this sequence of crash:

1. Open Blitz/Desert Wings

2. Fly and exit 1quick missions (109)

3. Exit program

4. Restart Blitz/Desert Wings

5. Quick mission – fly (109)

6. Frozen cockpit

7. Crash

At the end of the day this is a game and the only reason I'm still engaging is because it's frustrating me. It worked with all those 3rd party programs prior and Blitz/Tobruk isn't going to be the tail that wags the dog. I have .dmp files from the previous tests above if you want them.

The fact you can start and run the game without any problem initially suggests to me your system is creating a file which then causes the crash... likely created by another program. When you re-start, this file causes a problem.

I have never seen a similar problem.

Hi, while I'm having trouble locking it down to a single issue, I do have a theory that it has something to do with the Widescreen monitor, the cache folder and maybe the cppcrash folder.

Note: I've also turned off all background apps in the privacy settings prior to running the tests below.

When I turn off the widescreen monitor and run it off the laptop screen at 1920x1080 144hz, I don't get any crashes after a restart.

When I turn the Widescreen monitor back on, the program crashes without launching.

When I then delete the cache folder and clear (not delete) the cppcrash folder it runs on the widescreen monitor (5120x1440, 240hz).

This last step can be hit and miss, the program will launch, but crash when entering the cockpit screen (freeze then crash).

I've exclusively used the bf109 France free flight for these recent tests.

The '\Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\cache' folder and wide screen monitor are definitely part of the issue/solution in my opinion.

This is not a normal 4k resolution.

Have you tried 3840 X 2160 or some other resolution?

The game is not currently in 4k, (we hope to introduce that in the next few months) but can run certain 4k format resolutions.

Also, have you tried the game in a normal fullscreen instead of Pseudo format?

I think the problem is your extreme widescreen format is something the game was not designed for.

I would recommend you run the game in normal 4k resolution and see if your crash problem is solved.

Hey Guys,

I have moved over from the Steam forum.

I get crash to desktop on loading CoD from steam.

Doesnt get past the initial title screen with CoD banner at initial load.

I am using Bitdefender Total Security, which I completely uninstalled to see if it was the AV, but unfortunately same issue.

I have disabled and added the directory to the AV exceptions list.

Have reinstalled a number of times, and run Steam and the installed as administrator when doing so.

Also have run the game launcher as Admin also.

I have the latest Nvidia drivers.

I too am running a Samsung G9 monitor....I see Haddyfanny_barton above is using the same and is having an issue.

I have tried to run it in 1920x1080 but still crashes for me.

Hello all I'm having problems launching this game. The game worked for about two days after initial purchase. Now it just shows the splash banner on launch goes to a black screen then straight back to desktop. I really don't want to request a refund but this is my last option. I purchased the game thru steam. The troubleshooting steps that I took were:

1.) Uninstall / reinstall game multiple times.

2.) added the game to windows defender exception.

3.) rolled back any windows updates on the date the crash began.

4.) Checked my .net framework to ensure the latest version.

5.) Uninstall / reinstall game

6.) I changed settings to run as administrator.

7.) Since this is a game I purchased from steam I verified the local Cache.

Just wanted to post. I solved my problem. I uninstalled the game from steam and deleted the game folder in my documents and reinstalled and the game launched.

I too am running a Samsung G9 monitor....I see Haddyfanny_barton above is using the same and is having an issue.

I have tried to run it in 1920x1080 but still crashes for me.

We have had reports there are problems with monitors running above 60 hz with odd resolutions.

Happy to do a Teamviewer session if that helps.

Tried 60hz.

Unfortunately it still bombs to desktop before I get to the in game menu.

I get the starting title with black background, then it bombs.

Try to install the redists under: \\Steam\SteamApps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Blitz\_CommonRedist

Had a similar error (Windows 10) and it did the trick. Also turn off your Anti Virus before lauch, who knows (After Win10 i'm not installing AV anymore).

Setting max frame rate in the NVIDIA to 60 FPS seems to have done the trick for me. All the other solutions did not.

I switched from a low end monitor to a 40" vizio 4k tv and now when I launch it will go to a splash screen then i lose all video to the tv... no signal. I have to hard reset pc.

I switched from a low end monitor to a 40" vizio 4k tv and now when I launch it will go to a splash screen then i lose all video to the tv... no signal. I have to hard reset pc.

I am using a logitech extreme 3d pro joystick, Saiteck flight quadrant and saiteck pro flight rudder peddals. PC is an alienware aurora Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700K Pro cessor (4-Cores, 8MB Cache, Turbo Boost 2.0, Overclocked up to 4.4GHz ,

16GB HyperX(TM) FURY DDR4 XMP at 2666MHz, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with 6 GB GDDR5

I assume the game ran without a problem with the previous monitor?

If that is the case, then likely the issue is the new TV and the settings for it and/or the TV's software being incompatible or incorrectly programmed.

Sometimes the specific software for a TV or Monitor is unnecessary, Windows or your Video Card software does a better job.

First question: What is the refresh rate on the TV? We recommend 60.

Second, if you had to install software for the TV on your PC, is that software correctly aligned with the NVidia Card settings?

What is the resolution on the TV? Is this compatible with the allowable game resolutions? Try to use a standard resolution size.

Finally, your video card is not the most powerful... could the game/tv be demanding too much? Try running the game at 2k resolution to see if it runs.

Try turning down the eye candy a bit at 4k.

Looking over the huge number of programs you are running, the Galaxy related programs can sometimes cause issues... shut them off if not running the games which require them. (Witcher, etc.)

Check your Alienware settings to make sure they are compatible with the new TV.

Can't get far enough in game to change any settings unfortunately. It was at 1920X1080 for the previous monitor. No software for the tv. I will try some other things. Thanks.
