Wow, that Spit is looking great!

 

Must say, I'm a little disappointed to see only two Soviet skins being made for it, though Given that the Spit is going to have to fly on Eastern Front maps only, more red stars would have been appropriate.

 

FM update in July sounds great, will the Kuban map be part of that same update?

As for the skins – in the beloved spitfire thread I posted a couple of crappy pictures of Soviet spits

 

I believe there were only just over 100 vbs delivered for Russian service and therefore not likely much in the way of variety - from my reading many with the red star with a black or white or no outline around it painted over the roundels

Come on guys, it doesn't matter what skins is on the Spitfire. it's a beautiful aircraft which is fantastically modelled and we should all be excited for the next game update!

1) once BoK is fully released it will be available on steam at some point after that
2) the new career mode is for all available theatres

I think that must have been a typo - 6./ZG26_Asgar probably meant 'career'.

 Perhaps there just isn't that much reference material around for Russian Spit Vs? After all, there weren't that many Vb's about, especially in the Kuban.

In fact Spitfires Vb were only at Kuban.In 57.GIAP (using I-16s before) This unit has been soon rearmed with cobras.

  Another unit I know about was 821.IAP. Arrived to the frontline as a part of 8.VA in august 43. Also reequipped with cobras allready in september 43. (from july 45 they flew Kingcobras and also took part in Korea war in MiG-15)

Jason, please reconsider putting oxygen masks on pilots… They are historical and were included in IL2 1946. And they are bad ass!

Right, cause at the moment - there is only one known photo of Mk.Vb in a frontline unit - and that`s a #538 machine.

Viks,there are few profiles in the book of Vladimir Kotelnikov. What I remember it is of P.R.Mk IV from 118.ОРАП of Northern Fleet (I know,it is recce version)

There is also one from PVO with radiocompas "White 65".

But as you wrote,not many photos available. It was only one IAP at Kuban and all of those spits looked more or less the same.

Yep. The "b" designation means it's a B-type wing and armament arrangement. Two Hispano Mark II 20mm cannons with 60 round drum magazines. And four Browning .303 machine guns.

 

Powerful cannons but with a fairly short ammo supply.

Also I have to say that the Spitfire looks amazing!

Skinnies complaining looks an awful lot like Luftwhiners at the moment.

 

Soviet skins don't have a lot of reference materials and the Spit is a Western AC who's appearance is more important than the P-40 was for many/most Allied pilots. It makes total sense there are a slew of Allied skins. The Spit will get me over to the Allied side consistently for the first time and I will be flying British or American colors for obvious reasons.

You can buy any content through your registered Il2 account - it will be available in your steam game (but steam will not show it as a dlc you bought)

I'd be stunned if there isn't an ETO Spit's v 109's themed server, or at least a map rotation, somewhere within 90 days of the Spit's release. Wouldn't be too hard with some of the Moscow maps.

Kind of related to skins ... as they are finishing the unit insignia for career mode, I hope we get to use these along with plane numbers/letters in multiplayer at some point, too.

Is it fair to say that the brownings are not very effective? Maybe cause some fuel/oil leaks but not much damage?

Relax about the skins guys. Soviet Spits didn't have a lot of variety so we added some UK and USA ones. We'll add a couple more Soviet skins if we can find some cool ones.

That was my thought exactly. They only were used for a few months then retired. It's not like there's years of eastern front material to draw on. They gave us what was available on the eastern front, and then a whole lot more for the spit lovers among us (such as myself. Woof!).

The number of Spitfire Vs in Soviet service was very limited: I believe only about 150 were delivered, compared to over 1,000 Mk IXs, but the Vs saw action in Kuban, the IXs did not.  Since only a couple of units in the VVS actually used Vs, it is not surprising that there are not many skins available. 

 

So I am just happy to see it coming.

Do the Brownings in the Spitfire fire the .30 US or .303 British? The ShKas is great with all AP ammo and the .30 US has higher velocity than the 7.62x54R but I think the .303 was worse performing than both. Either way the Browning still has a lot slower firing rate.

But it should have very heavy De Wilde incendiary round loads. I'd expect those Brownings to be quite effective at igniting targets.

I don't have someone to do the required work. When I have the resources i'll do it. Just like I don't have a dedicated AI programmer or a character artist or special effects programmer/artist. We are always short handed and lack money to hire more people. And no I'm not going to turn it over to the community. We'll get to these things when we can.
