I was able to play the first mission by commenting out the references in the luascript files to the problematic effect:

graphics\effects\arm\hit_shell_he_200-1000g-ground.epl

Thanks for the possible work-around @kendo

It seems like a lot of effort was put into creating this campaign, the additional audio commentary was a nice surprise!

It would be great to play it as intended, so I'll see if I can hold out for an update.

In the files veteran_ari1.txt, 037.txt, 041.txt put // before the lines concerned as below:

//////    PhysicsBody properties
//VisualImage=0,"graphics\effects\arm\hit_shell_he_200-1000g_ground.epl",false
//visualradius=500

//duration=10
//range=0,1
//loop=false

//destroy_pause=0.1

It's a bit of a kludge and will reduce some of the mission atmosphere, but as a stopgap until the mission files can be fixed (unfortunately I don't have the skills to do this) it allows the mission to be played.

Have only tested mission 1, so other missions may have problems too. Will report back as i go.

And have to say mission 1 was excellent!!

Hi Kendo

As I had the same pop up when I started the Mission 19 from Lost Hope  ( Could not open effect     graphics\effects\arm\hit_shell_he_200-1000g_ground.epl) I tried your trick in LuaScripts\WorldObjects\mapemitters\test\037.txt and 041.text,  but with no avail. The same pop up came again  and I had to use the Task Manager to end Il-2. Did I miss anything ?

Where can I find this "graphics\effect" folder" . I have looked everywhere in my  Il-2 root folder, but there is no "effect" folder........

Thank You for your help.

There is one other file that references that effect -> veteran_ari1.txt

If you comment out the lines in that too hopefully it should work (again at the cost of losing some atmosphere and effects...).

Think the effects folder is hidden in the game's file structure and is not directly accessible.

Hi Kendo,

Many thanks, that did the trick and I could finish my campaign at last. As it was a night flight , I didn't notice anything special or weird.

The question now is "Where is this graphics\effects\arm\hit_shell_he_200-1000g_ground.epl" ? and why the game doesn't find it.... my game is up to date.

Again , many thanks

I did look for it too and couldn't find it but my campaign runs disturbance-free until now (3rd mission)

All I did before playing was the deleting of the .msbin files and resave the missions/campaign in the editor again.

@kendo  I see now, that the problem is different from just the usual misplaced luascript files, as I assumed on a fast glance. Sorry for that one.

Unfortunately I was not able to reproduce the error on my machine, where the campaign just runs just fine. Thus I took a page out of @vonGraf's playbook and recompiled the missions.

You can find them in the OP.

Many thanks for that. Will download again and give it a try.

Yesterday I got a similar error message and crash when watching a saved track from a few versions back.

Hi again, was able to get a quick try at first mission in the new 4.506 release ,and unfortunately got the same crash with same message. It happens when the flight is about half way inbound to Velikie Luki.

(Another minor thing I noticed, right at the start of the first mission 1-3 German soldiers (number seems to vary) come running from the right towards the runway, before all apparently collide with some invisible object and fall to the ground ...?)

For now I'll just continue with my tweaked version, because I've thoroughly enjoyed the first mission (played it 3 times now!). Using the 4k dedicated skins for the 190s, and the AI formation flying has really improved in a big way since I last flew Luftwaffe, so great to see your flight follow you so tightly with full authentic squadron markings.  Looking forward to the rest.

I can also confirm that these messages are still appearing since the update.

If some people are getting this and others not, should it be reported in the bugs section?

Might it be some kind of configuration related issue?

Same here , while flying Mission 1 to Bromberg. I'll go the Kendo's way.....:thank_you:

While flying on Grid 0706/9 , but didn't see any german soldiers crossing the runway....

Sorry, just saw I have these .txt files from another mod in my 'data/LuaScripts/worldobjects/mapemitters/test' folder. Two of them have this entry posted above in the text; not in the name, therefore I couldn't find them yesterday.

Maybe these files do the trick in my case. IIRC they're from the Chir Front campaign; maybe the same author?

If someone wants to experiment with them:

In the folder 'test' the files 37 or 41 could be related to the issue.

JSGME installer with all you need implied. https://www.mediafire.com/file/7kvmj3hysd5c8u1/JG51_over_Velikie_Luki_%2528v106_for_4703c%2529_Campaign.zip/file

Reworked a little as far as map location icons go, tested the first 3 so far, and that FW190a3 is a little devil. Be warned .. you'll be shooting Russians ...

PS the skins implied i left as the original are 2k versions because of the total file size.

The intro picture stands quite long, let it run out. Any further problems? le' me' know.

Cannot progress the campaign, I'm stuck in mission 2, although I land the plane and get a "mission end" on the screen.

I've already used the the mission editor tool to resave all missions in a folder. Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance for any kind of help!

Issue resolved, works fine. Enjoying this nice campaign and the great radio messages!

WOW - finally tried out this campaign. Only on the first mission so far - but wow. atmospheric - the radio calls add a lot!

I'm not usually a Luftwaffe guy - but damn - great first mission!

I like how your not really on rails and can figure your own way to get to the target area.

Great work!!!

I agree, the immersion of those campaigns is really fantastic.

I wish we had other missions using the same approach (Typhoon CabRank missions are th first I think of now, but many others are possible)

Hard to read your printed screen, unsharp ...

I checked the installer files; as far as i can see the file is in it and installs correctly. But only when you use JSGME to install the campaign.

It runs fine on my system that way ...

Big thx to Veteranen and all others, who had kept this campaign updated/playable.

Interesting historical background story: Beginning January '43, four days of air support for a German relief unit (Wöhler)! Neatly programmed, diverse missions with some surprise effects, which (mostly) end in tough dogfights. It was refreshing to navigate only on pure course data! But sensationell were the additional German radio messages (IMHO perfectly reproducing the contemporary slang of the LW pilots)!!!

This campaign was definitely different and gave me some highly immersive moments! Thx for that.

The next and final A-3 campaign on my list will be The Butcher.

I had a decent time up until mission 5 or 6

Afterwards everything always ended the same:

80% of bandits chasing me & my squadron being completely useless
