1CGS BlackSix Posted October 7, 2016 1CGS Posted October 7, 2016 4.(Pz)/Sch.G 2 (Hs 129 B-2) was used in North Africa Oh damn, you're right. The two Hs 129 Staffeln of SchG 2 would not appear on the Eastern Front before Kursk. I've next info from this russian book https://ozon-st.cdn.ngenix.net/multimedia/1003889375.jpg 4.(Pz)/Sch.G 2 arrived at Eastern front in the beginning of April Hs 129 (W.Nr. 4046, oblt. Seuken) from 13.(Pz)/JG 51 was lost near Krymskayа on May 29 1943 On June 01 1943 were lost 1 Hs 129 from 13.(Pz)/JG 51 and 2 Hs 129 from 4.(Pz)/Sch.G 2 near Krymskayа
1CGS BlackSix Posted October 7, 2016 1CGS Posted October 7, 2016 II.(Schlacht)/LG 2 is a difficult topic as exact bases are not really known and neither are transfer dates. It is known that they began "Typhoon" from two landing strips called "Moshna" and "Belyy", but I have been unable to find those. It is also known that they mostly operated in the area of Kalinin, being based at Kalinin-Süd on October 21/22 1941 while flying round-the-clock missions against soviet forces attacking 1st Panzer Division. It is also known that the Gruppe was temporarily shifted to Staraya Russa at some point in December 1941 and then showed up at Dugino in January 1942, but again exact dates are not available. Thanks!

csThor Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 I would say that it must have been 4.(Pz)/SchG 1 that operated over the Kuban Bridgehead. Could have been a simple typo in that book.

707shap_Srbin Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 Also, for BoM I need more info about II.(Schlacht)/LG 2 (Bf 109 E-7) Oct 1941 - Kalinin 12.41 - 13.01.42 - Dugino 2
csThor Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 (edited) Awesome find, Panzerbar. So let's piece it together ... Moschna was mentioned as first base for "Typhoon". I have found an airbase designated as such on the map that came with one of my "Jagdfliegerverbände" issues. According to this Moshna was located ca 20km west of Yartsevo in the LW Grid 35 Ost - 26 7 5. From there the unit moved to "Bjeloj" which is Bely (80km west of Sychevka). The next place - Konaja - has been impossible to find but looking at the direction of the previous (and the following) transfer it may be somewhere in between Bely and Kalinin. Then comes Kalinin (even though it's only documented that they were there on October 21/22) before moving back to Dugino (probably for a little R&R and to make good the losses they suffered) before they were sent to Ruza and back into the thick of it. And then, when the counter-offensive took off, they went back to Dugino. Edited October 10, 2016 by csThor
1CGS LukeFF Posted October 10, 2016 1CGS Posted October 10, 2016 (edited) Also, for BoM I need more info about II.(Schlacht)/LG 2 (Bf 109 E-7) Will this unit and I./Sch.G.1 be separate units in the game or will they be one? As I'm sure you know, the career generator has the ability to rename units on any given date. It should probably be just one unit: On 13.1.42 redesignated I./Sch.G. 1: Stab II./LG2 became Stab I./Sch.G. 1 4./LG2 became 1./Sch.G. 1 5./LG2 became 2./Sch.G. 1 6./LG2 became 3./Sch.G. 1 Edited October 10, 2016 by LukeFF

csThor Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 (edited) Amended October 11 with additional information provided by Costa (post #60). @ BlackSix It is definitely known that they were in Kalinin only on October 21 and 22 1941 - because 1st Panzer Division had been cut off by a soviet counter-attack and air power was needed to deal with that. The following could be a plausible entry, but I have to stress that this is pretty speculative with regards to the dates given (except for Kalinin-Süd). I left our the stages at Moshna and Bely because both are far outside the map area - in any case the time the Gruppe spent there must have been rather short given the rapid advance of Panzergruppe 3. 1CGS LukeFF Posted October 23, 2016 1CGS Posted October 23, 2016 @BlackSix, here's the info I have from Dive Bomber and Ground Attack Units of the Luftwaffe for II.(Schlacht)/LG 2: At the end of September, transferred from Lyuban back to the central sector with VIII.Fliegerkorps for the attack on Moscow, flying direct support for the battles around Bryansk on 2 October. October - November: moved to field strips at Belyy and Moshna a few days later to support 9th Army, Panzer Group 3, and 6th Panzer Division in action around Vyazma and the offensive towards Kalinin. On 14 October, 3 Bf 109 E-7s were lost in heavy fighting in the Kalinin area, and three more damaged there on 18 October. At Kalinin-South on 21-22 October where the Gruppe flew near round the clock attacks on Russian forces that had cut off and isolated 1st Panzer Division. The little Hs 123 biplanes particularly distinguished themselves in the desperate fighting around Kalinin. While there, the Bf 109 pilots also received orders to engage and shoot down every enemy plane encountered over the Kalinin sector. Back at Belyy on 24 October, but then returned to Kalinin-Luchinovka by the end of the month. November: supported the continuing drive towards Moscow, although many missions were scrubbed due to bad flying weather. 27 November: 10th Staffel was operating from Staraya Russa at the south end of Lake Ilmen where heavy fighting was underway. December: by December the Gruppe was in support of the intense defensive fighting along the entire front from Moscow north-west to Lake Ilmen that began with the Soviet counter-offensive on 5 December. Base changes were rapid and frequent as the Gruppe attempted to support the German retreat towards the west. On 13 December, 4th Staffel (at least), is known to have been operating from Staraya Russa at the south end of Lake Ilmen. 6 January: now based at Dugino / 65 km south of Rzhev, where it was renamed I./Schlachtgeschwader 1 on 13 January 1942. 10.Staffel was probably renamed 8.(Pz)/Schlachtgeschwader 1 on the same date, although the lineage is not absolutely clear. So, in short: October-November: Belyy and Moshna 21-22 October: Kalinin-South 24 October: Belyy End of October: Kalinin-Luchinovka 27 November: Staraya-Russa 6 January: Dugino 13 January: now I./Sch.G. 1 1

1CGS BlackSix Posted October 23, 2016 1CGS Posted October 23, 2016 @BlackSix, here's the info I have from Dive Bomber and Ground Attack Units of the Luftwaffe for II.(Schlacht)/LG 2: Thank you very much! This info will be very useful for my current work and for the BOM campaign.
1CGS LukeFF Posted October 23, 2016 1CGS Posted October 23, 2016 Thank you very much! This info will be very useful for my current work and for the BOM campaign. Great! I'll look through one of my other books to see what it says about Panzerjagdstaffel/JG51. 1
1CGS LukeFF Posted October 24, 2016 1CGS Posted October 24, 2016 @BlackSix, there's not a whole lot of info out there on 13.(Pz)/JG 51, but the book Hs 129 Panzerjäger! confirms what Panzerbar wrote above - namely that it was operating from Kerch V from early May 1943. This seems to have lasted until early June 1943. Page 144 from the book states: Early in June 1943, all Luftwaffe Hs 129 Staffeln on the Eastern Front, with the exception of Pz.Jä.St./JG 51, were completely withdrawn from operations and moved back to the Führer der Panzerjäger's support airfield at Zaporozhye where they were restored to full operational strength. While operating under the command of Oblt. Eggers, Pz.Jä.St./JG 51 had escaped heavy losses and...it was therefore able to remain at its airfield near Kharkov. So, for the Kuban portion of career mode, I would keep 13.(Pz)/JG 51 at Kerch V from early May - early June 1943 and then withdraw it, along with any other Hs 129 units on the map.
707shap_Srbin Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 13.(Pz)/JG 51 was renamed Panzerjagerstaffel./JG51 in late march - early april 1943.
csThor Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 The way I understood the bits and pieces I've found on II.(Schlacht)/LG 2 the posting to Staraya Russa was only for the (semi)independent 10. Staffel which flew Hs 123 and operated independently of the Gruppe. My post #57 still provides a pretty good view - especially since it would allow for the campaign to remain uninterrupted. As it is it's not really known in detail where the Bf 109s of the Gruppe were in this timeframe with any great certainty beyond a few specific dates.
