WWGriphos Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 Sorry I was a no-show. Had to go in for some medical tests today, and I thought I'd be done in time, and wasn't. Very sorry to have missed flying the Stuka! I have an inordinate fondness for that plane. Hope they were able to get the mission done without me.
56RAF_Roblex Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 (edited) Although I tested the game before the mission, I did not test Teamspeak and I had lost the microphone. Then while trying to fix that I managed to lose game sounds as well. I flew anyway and just followed my leader Talisman as we took Yak 7bs to escort the PE-2 bombers attacking Galendzhik. After that sortie I tried again to fix the problems and got the game sound working at least but because I had left the server and shut down TS, I missed them taking off for another raid. I decided to just fly direct to Galendzhik as I knew they were doing a dog leg over the sea. I arrived just as the PE-2ss were egressing and seeing three fighters about to chase them I dove in. I got a few hits but no kills but I at least managed to distract them while the bombers got out of visual range. I then tried to disengage and run home and heard Talisman saying he was doing exactly the same behind the bombers, ie trying to hold off three enemies, but I could no longer see that fight so stayed over land. Two fighters were still chasing me so I turned back and engaged them again and got a good hit on one who spiralled down as if mortally wounded but then pulled out at the last minute and ran back towards the base so I left him and ran the other way and managed to lose the remaining 109 by diving to the treetops then flying into the sun when he followed me down. Five minutes later I spotted Talisman who had managed to shoot down two fighters but was leaking fluids and had come ashore to find somewhere to land. I joined him and let him know where he was over chat so he could see Agoy airfield was only five more minutes away then escorted him there where his fuel ran out but he was close enough to glide in. Though I think he underestimated how much E he still had and narrowly avoided parking in the COs garden :-) Better safe than sorry. You don't want to find out you have *overestimated' your E when you lower your gear and flaps and no longer have an engine! Edited May 12, 2018 by 56RAF_Roblex 3

We were too few bomber pilots for manning all types, so I think only half of us did a second sortie with it
6./ZG26_Klaus_Mann Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 But the 88 Flight was excellent. And none of use were KIA. 1 1
Talisman Posted May 12, 2018 Posted May 12, 2018 Many thanks to server host, organisers and everyone taking part. I hope to take part again soon :)) Happy landings, 56RAF_Talisman 1
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted May 12, 2018 Posted May 12, 2018 (edited) A lengthy evening. The first two sorties were quiet in the skies, making for rather pleasant sight-seeing and navigation. We had the pleasure of witnessing the Il-2 group flying a very neat formation before making the most formidable bombing run I've ever seen. Five specks flew over the target, then suddenly a whole area was blown to bits! They repeated the feat during the other two sorties, and us fighters were witness to the destruction of one train, the entire railway complex, an armoured convoy that was passing it, and an armoured car convoy encountered north of Krymskaya. During the third sortie the Luftwaffe finally figured to come out and play, and we tangled with some Bf-109s over Krymskaya. After a lengthy and unproductive engagement, we disengaged and headed into friendly territory, but an error in identification led to a Bf-109 sneaking into our formation of borrowed Spitfires. The following events ensued. I took a single machine gun shot and saw tracers flying past me, and instinctively pushed hard on the stick while undamaged. During this manoeuvre I forgot about the Spitfire's excellent elevator authority, and almost immediately the vision went to red then finally pitch black. I could hear the wind. I could hear tumbling. I remembered that I had been flying relatively low. Once consciousness was regained, I was greeted with the scenery spinning all over the place and my aircraft out of control. Without taking time to think, I jettisoned the canopy and jumped to safety over friendly positions in Fedorovskoye. The canopy opened quickly enough, I could hear engines and even see the ensuing combat in the distance, but both parties went home while I still hung on my chute. The most surprising thing was that, unencumbered by the pilot's weight, the Spitfire had quickly straightened out, pitched up, and gracefully cleared the treeline I thought would claim me, before crashing on its own accord. That, my friends, is how I shot myself down in FNBF! PS: Tip, if it's not too much to ask, could you throw in some Lavochkins, Cobras, Spitfires or Kittyhawks in the mix as designated planes? There have been whispers within the fighter regiments that A. N. Yakovlev's influence has strangled the flow of competing fighters to the frontline, and the troops wouldn't mind some new toys to fly together with Yakovlev's inventions. [DBS]Tx_Tip Posted May 12, 2018 Posted May 12, 2018 Great Vid and AARs. Pe-2 escort was exceptional. On 2nd sortie the action was fierce as well. Good Stuff.
1.JaVA_BlGGLES Posted May 12, 2018 Posted May 12, 2018 YAK1B Boys Report, We had lots of flying too. First sorty we flew until the fuel was empty. Long CAP South west of Crasnodar. At the end we got the message that tuapse was coming under attack! So we changed course and CAPPED Tuapse until we had to land. We took new planes there, so we changed to MIG3's And yes we did found some willing to fight ME109's near Tuapse. One of my squadmates came under attack of a 109 and I was on his low six, when he tried to shake me of and well............we flew over 700km/h towards the Earth. I think he thought that I was gone, but in the real I was coming closer every second untill My 20 mm chopped of his wing and I think blew up his fuel tank! SALUTE! Back to base and new planes, to go North again Capping Maikop's factory! Nothing hapend there, so we went to crasnodar! Landed and took new Cobra`s to help attack the colonne of trucks! But the Il2's did the Job before we could get there! Then we had a little struggle with I think 2 Me109 and had to land, wheels down and almost on the ground! END Mission. Thx Guys, see you next week Cheers Biggles 3
6./ZG26_Klaus_Mann Posted May 12, 2018 Posted May 12, 2018 Well, on the 88 Sortie we had to divert from our orginally planned Route over the 15XX Line to the Open Sea, around the Rear Russian Airfield and then Double Dog Legged to get a favourable Approach on Tuapse. Our 109s did an excellent Job keeping the Soviet Fighters Low Down, so we were able to Pass overhead safely and dropped our Ordonance with very good Effect. We had to give Gelendzik a wide Birth as it was under attack at the time, but landed safely in Full View of Soviet Fighters. Once again our 109s did a very good Job at distracting them nonetheless. So we went right through the Trouble and came out unscathed.

Retnek Posted May 12, 2018 Posted May 12, 2018 For the IL-2 there isn't that much more to say because Lucas already told: took off with the heavy stuff under the wings and did our best to bring down strong Soviet factory walls with tiny 250-kg-bombs. Three times a round-trip behind a wise leader without accidents and losses! One thing is to mention: some missions ago the after-flight-vodka of a comrade was cancelled, completely! Formation flying, navigation and landings - the Captain had to react. After some progress today he was promised to get the half ration. The comrade flew in formation until the target and dropped like a young god! After doing his duty he turned around immediately and went home straight. Flying high speed and showing bang-on school-book-navigation for three times he went ahead of the formation. Each time we came in he sat smiling on the tire of his plane. I foresee a great career for that man! 1 1
13Nrv Posted May 12, 2018 Posted May 12, 2018 (edited) Oh yes , one of the greatiest online mission i' ve ever lived ! Awesome flying ! We started with 30 Souls and returned with 30 (-5 from Disco). And in the Grand Scheme the 109 is more easily replaced than my precious 88. And Fighter Pilots are a Dime a Dozen with no Shortages to Expect. So when it comes to Fighter Pilots Remember: Service guarantees Citizenship. Edited May 12, 2018 by 6./ZG26_Klaus_Mann 1 1
JG5_Schuck Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 You'll be escorting yourself on the next mission then Klaus? A couple of pics, the 88's being 88's just before they unloaded on the port and upset a few dock workers! The bullet proof Spit being flown by Lucas that i snuck up on after myself and Steinhof had a 10min dogfight with i believe 4 Spits and 2 P39's, i hit it 7 times and didn't even scratch the paint, although looking at the pic of it narrowly missing the P39, the ailerons don't look in sync, so maybe there was damage and that caused it to loose control. So don't be so hard on yourself mate........! And a bit of sight seeing flying CAP over the enemy port. All jolly good fun, Thanks. 1 1

But right now in my Life as a Bomber, Fighters have caused me more harm than good. JG300 also were true to their Task and did well. But in General Fighters still have to Regain my Trust after what happened two Weeks ago, when the Escort gave away our Position with Tracers, and then left due to Fuel Light, leaving us as easy prey. So, you have the Choice of deepening the divide (may we call it Frexit?) or rebuilding a healthy, trustful Relationship between Fighter and Bombers to the Point that I change my mind about the Fighter Crowd again. But as of now I find myself being more successful without than with Escort, which shines a very Bad Light on the Escort I have received far too often.
