I had 3-4 of their comics, and yes they were super violent (but in a very Tom & Jerry-like fashion)

Personally I was a big fan of the big Franco-Belgien ones: Asterix, Tintin, Lucky Luke (particularly the ones written by Goscinny) and especially Spirou et Fantasio.

On that I agree with you.

Tintin was also great. Gosh I feel old

I grew up on Asterix albums, and Lucky Luke of course. But I cant say I shoot 109s faster than my own shadow. Getting shot down on the other hand... ?

In Montreal back in the 60s and 70s, Asterix and Lucky Luke were pretty much only for the French kids. I'm English but I went to French school. Not sure what the English kids got as far as books go.

Now where's my P-47?

They were available in Norwegian fairly early. That i know, because i inherited a bunch of old Asterix and Lucky Luke albums from an old friend of the family when I was a kid, and I'm "only" 30. He must have been in his 50s at the time.

I still buy the new Asterix albums with the new author/illustrator when I see them. I feel a little bit like that kid again when I read it...

Wouldn't hope for any P47 release tonight atleast xD Friday tomorrow, so hopefully at least a DD!

Noooo, I can´t stand to wait 2 additional weeks. I´m suffering from idiopathic jugulyticas gratias and if I don´t get my fix this week I need to fly the P-40 to at least hear the sound of six 50cals. Show Mercy!

A nice dream anywhere but in the combat sim world. Did you wake up screaming "BREAK!"?

Only after he attempted a roll. ?

Haha. Well, it's still better than when you realize that what you felt wasn't a fluid leak in the pit. Wet simmer dreams are the worst?

In the original IL-2 1946 I always got a chuckle when I’d scroll down list of available aircraft and see there was a “P-51C_NT”

Why is that? I thought Aussies used that word as a term of endearment.

Yes, you are right, in that Aussie's can call their best mates the worst possible things, and as you observed mean it as a term of endearment. Peculiar as that may seem.

That’s right, but I didn’t realise it was just in Australia.  I thought all the rest of you bastards did it too.

We do. But somehow it still became known as an Aussie thing.

Did not know that about the Danes!

Perhaps we just get used to it from a very early age, when we hear our mums doing it.

Danes swear a lot, and it's gotten worse (or better, depending on your perspective) over the course of my lifetime. We're pretty anglophile about it it too with S-, F-, MF- and C-bombs being used regularly in daily language. Our home grown Danish curse words have mostly been relegated to children's television.

Another Aussie quirk is to take the piss relentlessly from those you like but cant be buggered to do so with those you have no time for. Except for politicians of course.

Thats true.  Whenever I use a profanity in reference to my close friends I usually soften it by prefacing it with the word “dumb”.

Do tell, as I'm always want to broaden my vocabulary,  besides I'm glad to do my bit to try to help keep fading cultures alive.

For Swedes, calling someone a Dane is, of course, the worst insult.

But only if we're doing it, some other bastard pick a fight with our bro and we'll shiv 'em.

And in Norway we do the same with the Swedes xD But we still love our "Söta bror". The old Kalmar countries are a bit like bickering siblings in that regard xD

I like this thread, i learned something new today. I was interested in swearing in medieval times.

I did not know there would be this much hype for the P-47. When it comes out a lot of people will be disappointed, performance wise.

There's an old French cussword "jarnicoton". Comes from king Henry IV (of France) which used to curse "jarnidieu" (je renie dieu = I renounce god). His confessor, father Coton, forbade him that particular cussword, as such he started cussing "jarnicoton" (je renie Coton = I renounce Coton).
