DCS: Bf109 K-4

Recommended Posts

Won't stall, won't spin? Are you sure we're flying the same Dora? I can stall her and spin her real easy with enough rudder input. She doesn't stall nearly as easily from high-AOA turns, not like the Mustang we're used to fly. The spin and stall characteristics of the Dora are far different from the Mustang or the Bf.109. These planes were not done for the same purpose, their wings do not have the same aerodynamic characteristics, and their airframes are pretty different..

Unless one of us is a real-life Dora pilot I guess we'll never know how exact or not the D9 FM is.

Fantastic cockpit and i like the sounds (either they updated them today, or my standards are too low?).

DM is WIP i guess (burning wings etc.). It's very senstive in a turnfight, atleast with almost full fuel tank, and likes to stall very quickly. No comparison with the D-9, which is very benign. It climbs very well though and is overall easy to fly.

I'll believe the ground-handling if someone shows me two consecutive take-offs (full fuel load) from grass. Landings are overall easy (easier than both the P-51 and D-9 for me), but take-offs are very tough,  even when using the runway.

One thing i noticed however, is that even in DCS, the comfortable engine management of the German planes makes them less exciting to fly around with than with the P-51 somehow. Feels kind of boring to fly them.

The complete lack of a WW2 map/theatre hurts though.

Seems like the DM for some aircraft was updated since last patch. I think they're on the right track!

you're right. I'll give her a try after flying the 109K. Maybe I'm biased. I newer liked the FW. Don't know why. I don't like the Mustang either but she's well modeled in DCS. Though I stil think she's nothing like the Spit or 109.. Still waiting for a Corsair. I'd love to fly that bird,.

I think also that D-9 is little to forgiving regarding stall/spin characacteristic in DCS.  109 should be more gente on stall then D-9 or P-51 cause of slats.  I think D-9 should be more pair with P-51 regarding stall/spin characterstic.  In DCS during stall D-9 make only some sort of flick roll then recovery byself even with stick full back.  I think in such situation it should be spin or spiral down ( something like we have in BOS A-3)

Oh great, they again put take-off assistance to 100% and that was causing the tough take-offs for me. They should really know better than to force these kind of aids on people by default. Without take-off assistance, take-offs from the runway are a piece of cake (though still harder than with the P-51 and D-9).

Are you using the open beta client?

I don't think i am, but after flying a bit more, the whole thing seems to be beta anyway.

I overstressed my wings in a 750 km/h dive by pulling the stick back. Trim was fully nose-down. Lost both wing tips (which had no big impact on the flight behaviour) and flames were coming out of my fuselage as a result (for whatever reason). I even made screenshot.

Also the MK 108 is a joke right now. Spends three hits on a P-51 and i just kept on going. I was not particularly happy with the DM when flying the P-51 and D-9 before, but now it's really obviously that there are some massive flaws in the system and i doubt it's just because the 30mm shells are modelled incorrectly.

But i like the FM overall.

The DM is a wip right now, G stress limits are wong. Should be -4.5G to +8G.

AI DM takes a lot more damage than the human flown planes. Against a human
pilot the Mk108 has one shot one kill capability.

In my experience the  AI P-51's can easily be shoot down with 1-3 shoots of the 30mm. Very rare that they take more than 4 hits.

But the AI Damage Modell is off that is true, if you look at the other weapons

Yes the Corsair, a unique beauty & beast!

The cockpit images look great but the external view is so-so (1946 plus 10%).

The release of EDGE (Eagle Dynamics Graphics Engine) coming soon should pump up the eye candy for landscape and external aircraft views.

+1

Some nitpicking however : real K-4 didn't have oxygen hatch on the right side of the fuselage.

If the open Beta release of the Mig-15 goes hand in hand with the release of EDGE and the NTTR map (which can be seen in the teaser), we should get some new graphical impressions of the DCS game in February at the latest.

And to come back to the K-4, here some further impressions of the sound mod by Diveplane:

The 109 has been out for a couple days and there are already sound mods? Stock sound must not be that good...Maybe they will fix it, still in beta probably.

This is why BoS needs a FMB...

For the DCS: K-4

I just made a small mission where you intercpt some B-26 Marauder bombers (ingame AN-26).
Watch out for escorts...

I included an original german WWII radio air situation report and one self made radio call. At the moment I work on more custom voice messages, but it takes some time.

I remember the story of the P-51 pilots getting into a scrap with an verteran late model 109 pillot either a G6/AS G14/AS or G10. All had the smooth cowling It took about five of them to finally shoot him down and showed if you know what you are doing you can make a 109 do a lot of things

Any news on when the WWII map should be released (in relation to the EDGE discussion above)?

I just started flying DCS after a long break from FC, and the P-51 in particular is very exciting. I just look forward to a better map and better graphics.

They're releasing NTTR first, then Straits of Hormuz followed by the WW2 map. Sometime in Q2 is the current estimate I think. I can wait for the WW2 map so long as edge + any new map comes along early-ish next year.

WWII map is important to me. Also taxing on the runways with modern jets etc is not very immersive IMO

Love the DCS WWII direction.. and up until the Bf-109 I have bought every addon DCS has.. but.. I am not going to buy anymore until they fix two things

1) net-code

2) graphics

As for item #2, I know they are working on and soon to release a new graphics engine, so that is good news, because seeing planes at a distance right now is nearly impossible with the current graphics engine.

As for item #1, this problem has been around ever since the first release of Lock-On, ie the hella warping lag. This was NOT a very big issue for a BVR flight sim, but now that they are moving into the dog fighting gun kill area of WWII it is a big issue. You need stable planes to shoot them!

So, until those two things get fixed, I don't plane on buying any more ad-dons, which is not to say I wont keep playing the DCS stuff I have, just not interested in any more WWII ad-dons until they fix those two things.

So will the graphics engine for sure improve the external aircraft views? I find the cockpits wonderful and even the landscape isn't bad at all (graphically of course...the theater is all wrong) but the external aircraft views is definitely only a slight step above IL2 '46.

Additionally, has it been confirmed that EDGE is going to make spotting aircraft at a distance easier? I'm not questioning the legitimacy of what's been posted, but I'm just new to this DCS business (loving the P-51 so far) and I'm trying to get up to speed.

I bought the F-86 in addition to all the WWII birds as well...can't wait for some MiG-15 vs F-86 action!

I hope you are talking about lighting effects etc, because 3d models of DCS aircrafts are definititely best out there in any sims.

Do you have anything running in addition to the graphics options in-game to achieve those shots? Those look wonderful. I have everything maxed out and my Mustang doesn't look as good as the ones in your shots (the 109 looks similar).

The external aircraft views will be better with EDGE. The material reflections, etc. are all going to be improved. The Sabre looks really great in EDGE being all metal and shiny.

Spotting hasn't been confirmed yet. There's changes being made to plane LODs which we think will help generally. As for how things are going to work out with spotting in EDGE we'll just have to wait and see.

There is a mod, that helps a lot with spotting the FW-190, P-51 and Bf-109. You can find it here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2269590&postcount=76

OK great, can't wait to try these.

Does Steam automatically overwrite these files when you install them? I just placed everything in the respective folders, and now suddenly Steam is updating DCS world. Any ideas?

Guys, just a head's up:

I downloaded and installed all 3 mods mentioned in this thread. Then, my game stopped working, so I restarted and tried again. Upon restarting Steam, I got a message saying my account had been accessed from China, and that I needed to confirm the authenticity of this. Needless to say, I said it wasn't me, and changed my password.

I'm not claiming that those mods have anything wrong with them, but that's all I changed on my computer prior to things going wrong. I'm now re-installing the game, and I think I'll just be playing "as-is" for a while.

Do yourself a favor and ditch the Steam version. Download and install the free "DCS World" version from ED, use the integrated module manager, then activate each module with the serial number(s) from Steam. Finally get JGSME for the mods.

It's a problem common with Steam that has nothing to do with DCS.
