Mysticpuma Posted April 12 Posted April 12 (edited) @SARFlytitus Answered my own question....as you were Edited April 12 by Mysticpuma 1
Mysticpuma Posted May 27 Posted May 27 @SARFlytitus I found this link on the 325th FG. Any chance of recreating this Macchi (please)? Accadde oggi. Sergente pilota MOVM Ferruccio Serafini (20 Gennaio 1920 - 22 Luglio 1943). ~Babbu Mannu #WMSStoriaMilitare #SecondaGuerraMondiale #RegiaAeronautica #CampagnadItalia #Sardegna #FerruccioSerafini #51Stormo Please not, this is an auto translate: It happened today. During the summer of 1943, on the same date as today, a 23-year-old boy took off, despite a painful toothache that had been haunting him for days, with his Macchi M. C.205 "Veltro" N°2 Rosso del 51°Stormo C. T. (Land Fighter), from the Uta-Capoterra airfield, near Cagliari, to intercept a formation of 48 American Curtiss P-40 Warhawk fighters, of the 325th Fighter Group "Checkertail Clan," in machine gun action in Southern Sardinia (Sanluri). Having engaged one, who escaped the fight, he attacked a second of it by shooting it down on the salt pans of Elmas (he was found there by his companions of the "Black Cat"), then threw himself into a fight of a third. After finishing the ammunition of the "Veltro" he decided of his own free will, with a risky gesture, to hit the P-40 directly with his own, knocking it down on Macchiareddu. He then tried to keep the fighter in order, which had a removed wing in the bloody bump, and was unable to do so and tried, in vain, to jump out of the cockpit, but it was too low and his parachute was not opened. His lifeless body was found only in the evening in the countryside of Uta, a short distance from his plane. He was in his ninth fall and now considered an ace of the Regia Aeronautica, he was awarded the gold medal for military valor by Decree on 2 August 1946: "A bold and valiant fighter pilot, a young man tempered in the toughest and toughest air battles, he was always a shining example and a spur for courage, aggression and decisiveness. As the fight went, he volunteered when the risk was greater and did not give up the fight until after firing the last cartridge, effectively collaborating with the most brilliant victories of the department and achieving magnificent individual results. In the course of a fierce clash with overwhelming enemy formations, I do not pay for the success of the shooting down of two raiders, one safe and the other likely, left without ammunition, he lashed out at a third opposing plane and broke down on the ground, in one with it, in the last supreme holocaust. - Sky of Sardinia, 22 July 1943. MOVM pilot sergeant Ferruccio Serafini (20 January 1920 - 22 July 1943). 1
SARFlytitus Posted May 27 Author Posted May 27 Hi Mysticpuma ! Ferruccio Serafini... Every time I go to Cagliari for work or pleasure I pass a few hundred meters from the place where his young life ended and, I confess, I look at the sky and it seems to me that I am witnessing those furious air battles of the summer of 1943... what an enormous waste of life all wars are! My simple answer to your request is a BIG Yes, of course ! i'll do a fake 205 from the 202 already in game. Thanx for your lovely request. SARF 1
