Been thinking about this.  I am going to add support in two stages.

Release 1

Add new planes

Address bugs

Release using existing map

 

Release 2

Use the new map.

Not going to get into details, but dealing with a new map is a lot of work.

 

Doing it this way will let me get the new planes to you pretty quickly as well as deal with some issues that have been lingering.  Then I can get to the new map and release when I can.  That might be several weeks.

Sounds good Pat, and thanks for your continuing work on PWCG.. It really is a required mod for both RoF and Il-2!

Thank you Pat - Getting early WWI a/c in PWCG is something I have looked forward to since you came onboard with IL-2 and Jason announced FC as a potential in the IL-2 engine with VR.  :salute:

Something that I have not done is recon missions using the camera or artillery spots using the radio.  Is there any documentation on how to build those missions or what the camera and radio even do?

 

Back in RoF the recon was pretty simple.  You would add something to a waypoint and the player would have to click a button to snap a picture.  Artillery spots were nightmarishly complex and didn't work properly half the time, but were very cool when they did.  A grid was overlayed onto the map and fire could be directed into the squares.  I am curious as to what is available now.

Very Weird that you are talking about this...
I just saw a thread talking about aerial recon and he also did some sample missions that are available in .ZIP.
I will try to find that thread and send you by DM the link.

Quick update.  Work is progressing on PWCG 17.0.0, incorporation of FC IV. 

  1. I am using the new map. 
  2. I have added the new planes (already released in 16.1.0)
  3. I have imported the new ground structures. 
  4. I have imported the new airfields and mapped takeoff paths for all of them (I remapped the existing ones)
  5. I have added quite a few new squadrons, especially French units
  6. I have completed squadron placement throughout the war.
    1. As usual, not historically accurate but kind of close.
  7. I am working on skin packs.
    1. All new FC4 planes complete, including about 90 Albatros D.III skins

To Do:

  1. Need to add skins for new units using existing planes
    1. Example: I added Jasta 9 as a new unit.  Now I have to make Albatros D.V and Fokker D.VII skins
    2. Need to do a general check to see what else can be done. 
  2. Add recon missions using camera
  3. Add artillery spot missions.
    1. This was nightmarish in RoF and doesn't look much easier in FC
  4. Some play testing.

Should be complete before 2025.  Hopefully much sooner than that.

I am looking forward to this so much! I'm sure there's a reason why they did the early aircraft last, but I've been waiting a long time to start a career at the beginning of the war. That would seem a logical place to start...

Sounds good Pat, I can help with beta testing as well if needed.  I'm keen to know why the artillery spotting is so difficult to implement  though? Have you been following @kraut1 work on the forums with the artillery logic? From my experience, its not very difficult to get working in a normal SP mission..
