IL-2 Crashing in VR Since Update.

I'm using a Pimax Crystal and it was working well with IL-2 in Steam VR until the most recent IL-2 update.  The sim will run fine in VR up to about 10 minutes, then the game crashes and closes.  I was flying missions in VR with no problems just a couple days ago.

I'm using a crystal as well and this has happened to me several times now. Does your pimax tool say "battery not charging"? My headset goes black then immediately  get that message in pitool. I never even thought about the update being the issue. I thought it was something to do with my batteries and the way I'm charging.

Also, if you have dcs or msfs, try flying there once.... if you haven't already. I'd be curious to know if it's il2 (the new patch) or if it's infact the pimax crystal itself.

Same for me. OpenXR is fine (DSC and MSFS also with OpenXR). Steam VR crahes after a few minutes.

@LukeFF is this a known bug or shall we report it anywhere else?

Just in case: make sure you are not using foveated rendering with IL-2 as it does not like it.

Thanks for all you do here @firdimigdi, you are a blessing to our VR community.  I had forgotten this and somehow turned DFR back on for IL2 and couldn't figure out why it started randomly shutting down.  Your posts saved me hours of trouble shooting. :salute:

I second that.

Hello firdimigdi, where can I found foveated rendering in IL-2 to check the status, please?

It's not in IL-2. The only way to try it is via external implementation - in the case of a WMR headset the options available are: forcing it on in OpenXR Toolkit if using OpenComposite or via PimaxMagic4All (https://github.com/mbucchia/PimaxMagic4All) if using SteamVR.

To use OpenXR Toolkit's implementation you need to open the game at least once with OpenComposite enabled and the toolkit installed, then in regedit open Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\OpenXR_Toolkit\OpenComposite_Il-2 and set the key named disable_interceptor to 0. Next time you start up IL-2 you will have access to the FFR options in the toolkit's menu.

For PimaxMagic4All just follow the instructions on its page. It's pretty straightforward.

Enjoy! Small performance gains and an eventual game crash/hang await you! How exciting!

Many thanks for your suggestions, firdimigdi. I will try as per you said. However, is very bothersome that when a big update has released many people (me too) have a lot of problems. Problems with VR, career, as I read in the last cases in the forum.

Sincerely, I am going out of love for this game. I loved it a lot, but I am tired to waste time each time a big update is released to manage to solve several problems that pop-up every time.

More, apart the efforts of willing forum members, as you, there aren't much helps from developpers staff, and who experienced issues must try to solve them byself mainly.

Found this out the hard way this evening when I had about 5 crashes in multiplayer.

The problem I’m still getting though is stuttering when tracking moving object and other planes. Seems to be a frame rate issue but on resource heavy maps I can’t even keep a constant 72 for the lowest refresh rate. Any tips on keeping up the FPS? Any settings that really eat performance?

This sounds as  reprojection / smart smoothing - just turn that off (in pimax client and steamvr if you are on steamvr)
