PPI resolution 72ppi, IMO far too low, on a 4k Gotha template.

I found the resolution of the ORIGINAL 4k downloaded IL2 template (GothaG5_Public_1.psd) to be of a very low quality,

a ppi (pixels per inch) level of only 72:

4k template ? must have been a blow-up conversion of a 2k Rise of Flight template?

-------------------------------------------------

For comparison here is a 'normal' 4k template at 300 ppi, almost 4 times as high for the c47a:

I would appreciate if the devs can publish a proper 4k Gotha template instead if this (cheapo?) 72 ppi version.

We got us some 4k template, thank you IL2, but not suited for detailed illustration work alas.

I highly, highly doubt @Raptorattacker would have done something like that.

OK i checked it out again, but they behave the same, in Photoshop CS6 and CC ....

posted the question on Discord now, Haluter's, Photoshop skinning help.

ADDED had a reply from RAP explaining why 72ppi is fine regarding size and loading times as such.

Guess i was mistaken by reading about ppi formatting and size regarding sharpness on Adobe forums?

Meanwhile i am editing imported items at a re-scaled (using Preserve Details 2.0) Gotha template at 4096x4096 300ppi as experiment.

and check what the output looks like after that.

ADDED2 these are the Gotha_Public1 templates.

first one is the 72 ppi 4096x4096 original template:

and this is the Photoshop re-scaled 300 ppi 4096x4096 Preserve Details 2.0. No other trick used like sharpening etc,

IMO wth quite better details:

Hi Rap (read your post below);  IMO still wondering about these loading times as both 72ppi and 30ppi 4096x4096 output DDS files are 21.846 KB are 21.846 KB.

I got deeper into this (not realizing you made the template) due reading about sharpness on Adobe sites about ppi and sharpness ...

@jollyjack"When it comes to digital displays, increasing PPI will not make your image appear any clearer, instead, it will just increase the size and loading time of your image."

The 4k relates to the fact that the document/template is to accomodate a skin that is 4096x4096ppi. Try save a skin FROM that template at 300ppi and see what happens.

THAT make it clearer for you?

Here is SKIN, not it's template...

Incidentally, you have posted the complaint on Discord 'IL-2 Great Skinners Community'.

(I added two examples of that resizing to 300 ppi in the post above, lowest 2 pics).

Wondering if these differences have to do with my display, since i use a 4k monitor?

My end conclusion: did some further experiments, there seem to be some improvement regarding details,

but not really improving enough for just skinning use.

Also the amount of work i did just now would be valuable for photo and high end printing only.
