dburne Posted October 29, 2023 Posted October 29, 2023 Hey guys a quick update on my current situation. (have previously been putting this under the DCS Forum)Cancer has now spread, was in hospital last three days. They did MRI yesterday; it is now in many places including my spine. Cancer originated in my left lung with a tumor, and also had in 5 nodes in lung). While scan did not cover my head, I suspect based on my inability to think clearly and do things that should be second nature I am pretty sure it is also in brain now. When time comes if you see I have not posted in a week or longer - have a virtual toast for me, I know I will be in heaven with my family that preceded me - so yeah have a virtual toast remember good ole Don (dburne). Love you guys, and being a part of this forum as been a huge blessing for me. I will also update the DCS thread as well since there is where I was putting all this info. Thank you gang, it has been a true honor and brought me great enjoyment for over the past 10 years knowing you all virtually. May God Bless you all!! Regards, Don B. 3 1 32

[CPT]Crunch Posted October 29, 2023 Posted October 29, 2023 God bless Don, I've heard in eternity you'll get the time, tooling, and ability to build and fly your own classic warbirds, all of them.
Lusekofte Posted October 29, 2023 Posted October 29, 2023 I am truly sorry for this. Best goes first. I still miss PilotPierre’s posts And I will miss yours. Do not be sure it is gone to your brain. Illness and in your case serious illness will affect concentration and focus. Hormones and all the things going on will affect brain activity. Anyway I wish you and your wife all the best 1
kissTheSky Posted October 29, 2023 Posted October 29, 2023 Sending positive vibes to you Don. Stay strong and with your loved ones. Know that you’ve made a positive impact here and some other forums you and I crossed paths in, and your inputs were always appreciated.

Guest deleted@83466 Posted October 30, 2023 Posted October 30, 2023 (edited) You don’t need to have already kicked the bucket for me to have a drink and “raise a glass” do you? So I am. It’s a way too strong Moscow Mule in a copper mug, because that’s just all I had the ingredients for. I’m writing this post as I drink it, and as I do, I hope when my time comes I can be as much of a man about it as you are. Edited October 30, 2023 by SeaSerpent
354thFG_Drewm3i-VR Posted October 30, 2023 Posted October 30, 2023 I'm so sorry to hear this @dburne. I wish you and your family all the best. I have loved reading your VR posts and testing on the forum! Godspeed, Drew 1
Charlo-VR Posted October 30, 2023 Posted October 30, 2023 We each have a window of opportunity to influence the world while we are here, and Don, everything I have seen from you over the last few years suggests you have made excellent, positive use of your window ? ? 3

LLv34_Flanker Posted October 30, 2023 Posted October 30, 2023 S! Will raise a toast for sure. We had good discussions over hardware and some heated ones too over the years. But that is a part of the hobby and passion for it?All here are united by same thing, the flight sims and aircraft. This hobby has given much, especially a lot of new people to talk with and learn from. You are one of them. Thank you for that. We all want to soar the skies, The Great Blue. May your last flight take you higher than ever. Until then I wish good moments with loved ones. 1
kestrel79 Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 Really enjoyed your posts on all the latest PC parts and VR hardware, sticks and throttles. 1
=FEW=fernando11 Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 It might be silly in the context. But your excelent review of the VKB Gunfighter mkIII is what made me go for it. Best pice of hardware I ever bought... So, simply THANK YOU! Wish you the best, and clear skies! 1
BladeMeister Posted November 1, 2023 Posted November 1, 2023 (edited) Yea, I have to say dburne, my wallet finally got over being sore at you after leading me down the VKB and Virpil trail. After reading your reviews and experiences with these manufacturers equipment I took the plunge into the deep end of the high quality Hotas market. Thanks for your insights as I now have my dream Hotas assembled and I am loving every moment that I sim fly with it. Don't count your chickens before they hatch. The Docs don't know everything. There is only One that knows the day reserved for your departure. Until then we live everyday in thanksgiving and go as hard as we can even if it seems to slow to a minuscule pace. Keep pushing on Sir, enjoy your family and what you love the best that you can for every minute that you are given. Be Blessed! S!Blade<>< Edited November 1, 2023 by BladeMeister 1
Dagwoodyt Posted November 1, 2023 Posted November 1, 2023 @dburne: I bought a VKB Ultimate grip and an Aero helped by your advice. I've been going back and forth from pc to front door to hand out candy for Trick or Treat and feeling lucky to be able to do that sprint. My wife can't move quite as quickly due to a lumbar injury a while back. Best wishes! 1

Yes that One has taken all the burden of this away from me, and is seeing me through to the finish. And it is an incredible feeling! I truly am in a win-win situation, either more time with my wife who I love dearly, or being welcomed into Heaven by those that have preceded me in death. I am quite excited believe me!! 8 hours ago, Dagwoodyt said: @dburne: I bought a VKB Ultimate grip and an Aero helped by your advice. CanadaOne Posted November 1, 2023 Posted November 1, 2023 @dburne I just wrote to you on another site, but I have a different name there and wanted you to know that I read your post and I'm thinking of you. Peace of mind unto you, my brother, and to all those around you who love you and whom you love. 1

Missionbug Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 That is really sad news Don B, not sure what to say as that took me quite by surprise. Cancer truly is a terrible thing, so many times we hear how it has spread in many who have it, makes my own ailments pale into insignificance. Take care and be safe. Wishing you all the very best, Pete.
LLv34_Flanker Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 S! @ZachariasX Has Don taken off for the last flight as you posted a toast? 1
easterling77 Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 He hasn't red a pm for seven days. I hope he can rest easy now 3
BladeMeister Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 I PMed him about 5 days ago and have had no response. Maybe, hopefully he has found Peace. S!Blade<>< 2
Lusekofte Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 It is too early to say. His illness is a rollercoaster. In this state no one can tell if he is better off taking his last flight or got some good days ahead. But I have been worried. He has not posted in DCS site either 3

Just following his wish. As others have said, Don hasn‘t been active in the other fora as well for the last week. So… 1
Varibraun Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 I sadly think you are correct. I had a nice PM exchange with Don a couple of weeks ago, and as he said here, he was in a good place mentally and spiritually as he moved into last days with in-home hospice care. Agreed that we should follow his request for us and raise a glass to him - I will miss Don here. ? Would be great if Luse is right and Don makes an appearance to "Mark Twain" us in this thread. 1 3
Archie Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 I hope Don is at peace, wherever he may be. 2 2
LLv34_Flanker Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 S! I hope he is with his family and loved ones. A toast to another pilot venturing to The Great Blue. Strong winds and clear skies! ? 4
BMA_FlyingShark Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 Salute, Don, although we've never met in real life, it's always been a pleasure having you here. All the best to you and your family, wherever you are. ~S~ 2

Varibraun Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 I don't know Don or his family in person, so I am not 100% certain - but I do believe this likely confirms that he "went west" last week. He will definitely be missed: https://www.echovita.com/us/obituaries/fl/apopka/donald-burnette-17203992 ? 4 7

CanadaOne Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 That's sad. He was a cool guy and the world needs cool guys. 3
