New objects - poles on Western map ,sadly it's only few at this train station (like ten ) of them and they are going nowhere. I hope work on the map will be continued.

I went looking for it, it doesn't show up on my map.  Either on a new mission opened in the Mission Builder, or on my West Front mission that was made previous to the update.

???

La Citadelle

Its not shown on map like in other City‘s have a big old fortress..

But it’s in the game now ?

First off I wanted to say a great job on the update! I'm loving the new map! I have one thing to say though with A LOT of disappointment, I was extremely hyped to be able to fly in the American volunteer corp escadrille N 124 for the French. While the name is there, its just a normal French squadron, with all French pilots and French Bio's. :( Anyway we can get this updated with American Bio's and Names and Skin changes. Please.

Not possible. It's listed in the French database of squadrons because, at the end of the day, it was a French squadron. If you changed it to an American one, then you'd have ranks*, medals, and biographies from the American database, and then that would be entirely out of place. It's nothing different than what we had in Rise of Flight's career.

*Almost all American pilots in Escadrille Lafayette were enlisted pilots, not officers - to say nothing of the rank insignia and names being entirely different.

I've just flown my next Normandy career mission in Typhoon as a squadron leader with the new patch and I must say that I am quite impressed so far. I am not sure what is placebo,  but AI got better. The planes were keeping formation much better than previously. We managed to hit the railway station in Caen pretty well with only a single loss and AI went nicely against trains, vehicles and FLAK. P-47D escorts which in my previous missions were usually wiped out by enemy fighters managed to do quite well and down several of them so we were able to disengage without any further losses. I am looking forward to my next missions over Normandy, so far it looks really promising. Thank you very much for all the hard work improving the sim.

Pro-tip for the Spitfire XIVe's engine management: prop RPM lever full-back will give you interconnected prop and throttle controls, while prop RPM level full forward gives you max RPM. Interconnected controls were meant for combat flying, while max rpm was for taxiing, takeoff, and landing.

Thank you for that, but I'm being thick. All my other spitfires show the Propeller RPM lever move in conjunction with my assigned Throttle lever, I have HOTAS Left Prop RPM,  Right for the main throttle. But regardless of what I've allocated, in this aircraft, the Propeller RPM lever remains at rearmost (Idle?). So am I still getting the best out of the engine/prop? Thank you

If it's moving in the other Spitfires along with the throttle, that means you have engine assistance options enabled. But yes, in the XIVe, the lever is meant to remain in the rearmost position when using interconnected controls.

I just had time to take the Bubble top Spitfire for a quick 8 on 8 dogfight over the new map. This new Spit looks better than all the older ones. Looks really mean, purposely built, combat aircraft.

The first Spitfire I like.

Hello LukeFF, Apologies for not quoting your handle in first post. Thank for that.

My next daft question if you don't mind. I've activated multiplayer, to 'go on line' as I understand it, found a server that worked, but don't think it has the latest Normandy map. Will we be able to have it off line in the future? No problem if your too busy at the moment

Hello LukeFF,

Disregard my last question, I have found the map by opening a set mission in quick missions, (Proof that old age is bad for you) THANK YOU

Excellent, thanks Dev's. Just taken the new Spitfire into a 'destroy v1 site' That took seconds to get objective completed, Then MY objective, out to the coast to Sword beach, (My Dad's beach, 6.30 am, 6 Cdo with the French Commando's ) Flew over airfields, THAT ARE POPULATED, YAY!  got partly involved with a scrap between P-51's and FW-190's, survived that and hit the deck to the coast, Yes impressed. There's a lot of smaller details that were not there before. THANK YOU

Problem with Gotha Career

Before the patch it was easy for me take off as squad leader and let the ai‘s climb with me and they hold formation when fly with a bit reduced throttle ( missions created with EMG ) Same seems doesn’t work anymore, the squad don’t follow my climb but fly far in front of me…?

Do I something wrong or does the patch change anything, maybe this?:

-Fixed an issue with AI pilots climbing in formation, which, in particular, could cause the wingmen to fly with their flaps extended and therefore lag behind the rest of the flight-

Next time I will try to fly with more heavy loadout than the rest of the squad ?

By the way: just followed the landing procedure of my squad, two landing’s: two crashes…??‍♂️

Ok, answer by myself: Best is ignore the AI‘s poor climb. When I climb as soon as possible and wait on altitude with reduced throttle until the squad arrives seems the best option, I don’t know it should be like that or not ?

After that enter in a combat box the enemy territory. I must say by that way I had a really „to hell and back“ adventure ?? It was an really exciting air battle, well done devs!

But still not saw a single save Gotha landing by AI ?

IIRC mine was only about 1.5 GB - kinda surprised me as I was expecting more based on some earlier posts I'd seen.

For those who are interested only in ww2 content the adding of ww1 content in their SSD hard-drives is a waste of space. I know I will not buy ww1 content. Why should I store it in my PC? This is basically a different game. Let's say that for tank crew it makes sense to have joint operations. But for ww1 it is a waste of space.
In DCS you buy and store modules at will. You do not store modules that you do not buy, or do not use. Why that can't be in il2.

I flew a lovely mission with some 5 or 6 player Gothas crossing the channel, fending off some night fighters, and bombing Canterbury. Then there's the Polish-Soviet War from the 1920's that runs WW1 aircraft on a WW2 map with player AA trucks paired with AI Russian scout cars and WW1 tanks for the ground campaign...

I'd like to ask why the devs removed those visual damage effects with this update? I thought it was awesome seeing huge holes in the airframes from 20mm cannon hits, etc.

Great news, great job guys!

WWI is still where this game engine shines I think. I'm very happy to see development continuing in this area.

Only thing that really stands out still...lack of float planes.

Other than that small issue, it looks outstanding.

Congrats on the release. Not gonna lie I'm a WW2 guy over WW1, but I'll probably guy to support the dev team.

Did I read it right for Flying Circus Vol. 3 there's no new map? So they will just keep working on the current map for Vol. 3 is that right? Make it bigger and more detailed?

Yes, that's the plan right now. Only parts of the map right now are in a more or less completed state - they are marked off on the map by large boxes.

One word ....brilliant

Any information on how to use the new artillery spotting and recon features?

Do they work the same way as in ROF? I've looked back over the ROF manual to read up on how they worked there.

That and 1916 two seaters for the Halberstadt D.II, Eindecker III, and Airco DH.2 to shoot down. We could really do with a slow (<140 km/h) German two-seater and a French two-seater (Caudron G.4 or Voisin VIII) to fill that role. They are interesting aircraft in themselves, but they are most needed as targets for the early war interceptors.

If all else fails and only one new aircraft could be created - then a Morane-Saulnier L /Pfalz A.II/Pfalz E.III could be used - as it served with all sides during the war and could be quite slow (although some the German built versions got quite fast apparently). It'd give us an early war French, British, Russian, and German two-seater, along with single-seat pursuit variants, and options for both fixed and flexible machine guns and bombs...

Wasn't the original plan for FC3 to complete the map in between the two existing sectors of the front (i.e. three boxes)?

I'd personally prioritise a Channel map or Gulf of Venice map - so we can get back seaplanes/floatplanes... but I seem to recall the originally announced plan as having three boxes on the 'Western Front' map.

It does the same for me. The game freezes and when trying to restart it after closing it from Task Manager, it freezes again. Always needs rebooting my pc.

Congratulations on a very good job, as usual but no less impressive

As soon as Flying Circus III appears I will buy it, same for possible Flying Circus IV, buy assured
I prefer spend some money in a lot of enjoying hours flying than an afternoon in the tavern, no comparison

@LukeFF Might the throttle-prop interconnection feature be retrofitted to the Mk IXe in future? Especially by the time of the Rhineland campaign this variant was definitely equipped with the system. The book "Spitfire Diary" by 2TAF pilot E.A.W. Smith goes into detail about Spitfire IX operation and how it differed from the less popular XVI (the latter lacking the interconnection system, which actually led to the death of a pilot from his squadron; this is mentioned on page 125, date of November 21st 1944).
