Hello,

I have TrackIR 5 but in IL2-BOS it seems that this device does not allow to simultaneously control forward/backward head movement with joystick buttons (or keyboard, mouse..). Maybe there is a way how to bypass the TrackIR Z axis and (re)activate buttons, but I was unsuccessful. .. Any idea?

I think you can disable the forward/backward movement in the TrackIR software.  Go to "Advanced Settings" and pick the Profile for BoS in the dropdown menu. Under Motion Adjustment you can select and deselect every axis like pitch, roll, yaw,X,Y and Z. The Z axis is for the forward and backwards movement.

unfortunatelly, it did not help - it was my first idea :(

Is forward and backward the same as pilot head zoom?  Never used forward and backward with track 5, but I use head zoom all the time.

I have joystick and throttle, so both hands are occupied :)

with TrackIR 5 head zoom works just fine, but forward and backward head movement provide different extent of view (which is very helpful, especially for FW). It works when my TrackIR Z axis is enabled but I do not like to move with my head forward and backward like a hen, it is very uncomfortable. Below, you can see the diffrences between head zoom and head movement (maximum wide views)

A) TrackIR-5 Z axis disabled in my BOS profile, just zoom in/out works, head backward/forward movement is somehow broken although I have buttons assigned (joystick, mouse, keyboard, it doesnt matter)

B) TrackIR 5 Z axis enabled, but headache after 2 hours of playing is inevitable - that is why I want to use a buttons just for this function

Hello! I've found this topic from 2014 and was wondering if there was a solution for this?
Asking the same question, but broader. Not only Axis Z, but how can I use TrackIR 5 for Yaw and Pitch and use Joy or Keyboard for other Axes? (X and Y for example). The problem here is if you uncheck Axis X and Y in TrackIR software, it looks like these Axes totally become disable in the game. Joy and keyboard don't react despite keys are assigned.

an solution would probrably benefit me also as I use an edtracker (just 3DOF), same problem exists in Rise of Flight and never found an solution in there either

I`m confused here. Maybe I`m reading these posts wrong, but I can look on all axes on Track Ir. I can lean forward and lean back and have extra zoom on my hat switch to see stuff further out.

I will go into my settings and try and get for you exactly what I have keyed to what- If you want.

If you are talking about Pilot head position then that cannot be done while TrackIr is active.  It is designed to allow you to set the default head position for the pilot, ie how far forward/sideways/up/down he is sitting, then save using F10 before switching on TrackIr again.  I did this a few days ago to alter how big my gunsight ring was on the reflector glass.

'Lean' back & forward to allow your view to change as if you have leaned forward up to about 30cm is done by TrackIR by default using the Z axis.

Zoom, ie like using a pair of binoculars to look at something outside the cockpit,  can be bound to a pair of keys or buttons on the joystick.  I have it bound to a hat on my joystick.

Which one are you having a problem with?  Position, Lean or Zoom?

I am not entirely sure what you are trying to do. It sounds like you want to be able to lean forward, eg to see the instruments better,  but don't want to just lean forward in real life and let TrackIR do the same for you in the cockpit.   You say that gives you a headache yet you are using TrackIR for everything else.   Is that right?  You have no problems looking around in TrackIr but leaning forwards or backwards and having your in-cockpit view do the same gives you a headache?  Is it because you don't like the view changing every time you move your head in real life and increasing the dead zone does not work as you want?

Personally, I have disabled the Z axis and use zoom to look at the instruments closer or just change my field of view.

Sorry. I know it is frustrating when people are misunderstanding the issue and giving you solutions to problems you don't have but we are all trying to clarify exactly what you want so we can help.

@seafireliv, don't be confused. You are reading my post right. I can do all you described. But I don't want. See details below.
@56RAF_Roblex, yes, I'm talking about pilot's head position. And, probably, you have answered my question :(

My situation is next:

When I zoom (with my joystick), TrackIR becomes hypersensitive. It's Ok with Yaw and Pitch. But it's not OK with moving pilot's head left/right or up/do. It's just too sensitive. Even small movement creates an additional problem with aiming. Even with dead zones.

Without zoom, I don't move my head too often (Axes X and Y).

95% of the time - looking left/right/up/down and lean forward (Yaw, Pitch, Z).

So, to avoid unnecessary movement, I wanted to unlink left/right/up/down head movement from TrackIR (Axes X and Y) and use a hat on my joystick for this movement. This will give me more stability with pilot's head movement during a flight.

My desire setup:

On joystick's hat: Left/Right/Up/Down - moving pilot's head left/right/up/down (Axes X and Y in TrackIR software).

On joystick scroller - zoom (not a problem).

TrackIR - the rest of the head movement (Yaw, Pitch, Roll, Z).

Do you see my point now?

The problem here is if you uncheck Axis X and Y in TrackIR software, it looks like these Axes totally become disable in the game. Joy and keyboard don't react despite keys are assigned.
My question: Is there a solution for this?

56RAF_Roblex said it was impossible while TrackIr is active.

Maybe someone has another solution?

You cannot move your head up or down or sideways while TrackIr is active because TrackIR needs to know where the 'neutral' position is and will fight any attempt by another source to shift it.  It is understandable really.  It would be hard for TrackIR to work if the central/neutral position kept moving around.

I don't know if it helps but you *can* set a button to disable TrackIR entirely for as long as you need and use the joystick to move your views as you did before buying trackIR.  You can also set a button to engage 'Precision mode' which makes it less sensitive.

Thanks, Roblex.

It looks like I got my answer.

You could also use two different profiles on TrackIr: The normal one and another where you have disabled unwanted axis. You could make it also less sensitive.

There is hotkey in TrackIr named profile. Bind a key to it and check enabled box. You can set it on/off style selecting toggle option. Otherwise it is only working when the key is pressed.
