Timeframe: November 1944-January 1945

Missions: 16

Requirements: Battle of Bodenplatte premium or Battle of Bodenplatte and Fw190 Dora 9

About: Follow a Fw190Dora9 pilot during the last days of 1944. This campagin is inspired by historical events that took place, but do not follow what actually happend to a particular pilot or unit.

This campagin makes use of @Hamaha15s updated area around Bastogne and @AEthelraedUnraed updated area around Hurtgenwald. To see their updated ground textures you will need to have mods enabled, but this is only estetic and not necessary to make it work. Its however highly recomended as their work is very impressive. Thx to them both for their work!

HUD shoud be on as there wil be messages about the mission. It is always enough to survive if you want to continue to the next mission.

Please let me know if there is any bugs or problems!

Just finished 7th mission. I'm impressed. Really nice campaign. Interesting missions, nice settings, especially around Hurtgen Forest and absolutely amazing weather. The aerodrome defence in pouring rain was mindblowing. I hope the rest will be as good or even better :)

No bugs so far

Thank you very much for this outstanding work

Hello. Press the link and download file button is the arrow pointing down to a box on top of the page. The file it self needs to be extracted with a program like winrar or 7zip. Both are free to download. The now unzipped file needs to be placed into the campagin folder in your il2 sturmovik folder. Let me know if you cant get it to work still! ?

I like very much the mission, quite immersive.

I detected that german ground troup have british or canadian uniforms. Is it because there is no german model?

Thx! Im happy you liked it. You are right about infantry. I wanted to have guys on the ground and figured it woud not be too noticable from the air at high speed.  Il change it when/if they give us a german model ?

Thanks for your answer.

I also noticed that the car models on the airport are from WW1, is it intended?

Yes from what I read in books atleast the british used alot of old equipments like ww1 trucks in secondary rolles. I figured that it woud not be to far to think that the germans maybe woud use some older modell cars and trucks to drive around the airfields. It isnt thet many modells to work with so I use what we have ?? in my hurricane campaign hs129 has to be stand in for the beaufighter ??

Very nice. Really enjoyed the campaign especially the fact you can keep progressing without getting stuck on one difficult mission(like the night ones).

The weather was outstanding and attention to detail. Can't wait until you release your next project. Thanks for the hard work.

Feel free to check out my other campaigns here in the forum ?

Im not working on any new projects right now, but I will soon ?

I'm flying the last mission tomorrow. This has been a great campaign. It's definitely not easy being constantly outnumbered. The bomber intercept mission is nuts. I'm impressed you got so many planes in one mission and it didn't tax my system. I shot down 4 bombers and had to run back to base with a missing elevator. I was following the river back to base flying just over the water weaving through the trees with four mustangs on my tail. Intense!

This was my craziest moment from the airfield defense mission in the rain:

Thanks for this feedback! I'm happy you liked it. It was always a goal with this campaign to be outnumbered most of the time since that was the reality of the Luftwaffe in late '44. But the AI can be very effective in the Dora 9 and not so much in the P-47. I haven't tried it after the update, so the campaign might have become a lot harder!

Sandmarken, thank you for this campaign.

Since I wasn't so far particularly interested in the Focke-Wulf "Dora", it became that this campaign was the last on my list of your campaigns. And I’m now a “Dora” fan! Used to the Bf109, the view from the cockpit was different, but the switch got easy.

16 missions is quite a number and I was curious how you solved it without redundancies. I wasn't disappointed, just like in your other campaigns: alternating story lines with (very) different challenges!!!

Keep your good work up!

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. 😄

After more of a practice run doing the C-47 one, this was the first real one. I always had in mind making it since I decided to learn the editor somewhat. I wanted it to feel hopeless and convey being outnumbered, like the situation was for the Luftwaffe in late '44. Something neither the career nor the multiplayer does for me.

How did I do 16? That was before kids! 😂

So, gentleman, what takes a guy to fall in love ??

Well, if we're speaking about the Dora, it takes just this awesome campaign, sooo very Sandmarken style, action packed, in witch you really sweat !

Just after the first 2 missions, i can tell that i really enjoyed it. So far it seems like a kind of Downfall campaign, and that was really good.

Mission 2 , for example was quite a crazy fur ball!

And the Dora, my new found love (strange, I hate a bit the FW-190) is quite a wonderfull machine.

Ups! Now i've seen that our friend here Ulricus got ahead of me: same thing happened to him last year ! 🤣

@AndreiTomescu thx! I made this campaign when i yet did not know fully how to do everything. May have been a good thing because i was alot more experimental in my missions making with it than my other works. 😄

And you did it like an action movie script!!

After the Hurtegen Forest battle, where all hell broke loose and after shooting down 3-4 P 47 s, i've realized there are like dozens more.....available, so run for safety......The next scramble ! mission was would call a crazy daisy furball! Dunno if the Dora is so much superior to the P-47 (i guess not) or the Thunderbolt's pilots were quite newbies, but it was a killing spree.....

Dora Fire.jpg

another interesting observation, regarding the game's fine graphics, is that the fire raging on the airfield is reflecting in the control tower's windows.

So, yes, it's an older engine, but it had always have an respect for this little details that make immersion.

I guess a nickname for the Dora mighr be "the Lighter" because, due to its sooo powerful armament, it lits up enemy aircraft soooo easy ! What i've noticed is that i'm missing the deflective shots more often that with the Bf109, due to....over correction. I wonder why...... any thoughts? Might it be due to the wider nose?

Maybe also the placement of the guns? The 109 has its 20mm in the nose while the Dora keeps the two in the wing roots. About the Dora vs. P-47, I found that the 109D is one of the AIs' strong ones, and the P-47 is not. That's why you won't meet it as a pure fighter in my later works. All AI P-47s in the campaign are high-level and many are given 150-octane fuel to try to give them an edge. They still do very poorly.

Well, what you tell makes me happy like hell! ☺️

Because, despite poor AI for the P-47, they were on high level, and ok, the Dora's AI is high, but my AI also did good. Hihihihi. Maybe i'm getting better.....

The aiming thing still puzzles me, because the 13mm are in the nose still, and the cannons in the roots, and with convergence set to 230 m , it should be somehow similar.

🤔🤔🤔

230m is effective if you are really close to the enemy and if you shoot in first line while flying level. But if the enemy is ca. 500...600m away the concentation of the 20mm MG151 is not so good.

In real late War FW190 the weapons were adjusted to ca. 400m...600m

This means from my point of view that with sight 400m the concentration of the fire power of the 20mm MG151 is only mean on short ranges but on the other hand if you shoot in a dogfight during acrobatic manoevers you will have some advantage and the fire is comparable effective at ranges between ca. 100m to 600m.

Sorry, I can't explain it well english.😀

So what you say is that a convergence of 400m gives you better chanse of hitting even at 100-200 metres during hard acrobatics, right?

And that due to a larger spread of the bullets 🤔 ?

Sorry to bother you, i'm trying to solve this mystery for me, that's going on since the beginning (like 15 yrs ago) with wing mounted guns.

P.S. your English explanation was very clear! I think i got it right. Now I have to put that to the test.

Sorry, a bit complex topic and maybe I am not a real expert.

In respect of accuracy during dogfights it is the best to fly with a plane with most weapons as close as possible to the line of sight.

For the BF109F to K or P38 e.g. it is not required to adjust the weapons to the center.

Here the historical convergence for the A7-A8, D9 should be the same, just without the outer wing guns MG151/20(Fl):

(My idea was only for example for this situation (BF109-E) the right wing cannon points already a bit downwards due to the convergence angle and due to this the gravity will have a more significant impact on the trajectory of the red tracer than on the green tracer of the other gun.

But as I said it's only my subjective opinion)
