Got to kick the tires on the new Roye 1918 map designed by JGr2/J5_Mai and thoroughly enjoyed it. The action was constant, with bombers on both sides making steady incursions into enemy territory to destroy airfields. It certainly kept us on our toes! With more than 50 pilots online consistently, there was never a dull moment. No. 10 Sqn makes takes the reins as Entente British and French forces gain claw back lost initiative from Central over the Western Front... ... a few days following the intense fighting last Sunday, Entente forces made a mid-week advance with a much needed mission win by points, last Wednesday. No.10 Sqn RNAS led by @RNAS10_Mitchell and @RNAS10_Oliver showed up in force in the Lens sector to surprise Central forces engaged in reconnaissance and general patrols. Phones were ringing all up and down the Central lines as this recently reinforced squadron made its presence painfully felt above and all along the trenchline targets and fortifications... ...but alas, the gain was short lived as the Kaiser did not waste time in making his reply. His forces on Central mustered a one-two punch reply as it overwhelmed Entente the following two days in a row, Thursday and Friday, gaining a win by points on both days! At the halfway mark of the Flugpark Winter Tour Campaign, the Luftstreitkraefte still dominates the skies in support of their ground troops below, leading 14 wins to 4! But cracks may have appeared over the past few weeks in the seemingly iron grip Central forces has had over the front, as Entente forces appear to be reorganizing and gaining new inspiration from new corners of their forces! JGr2/J5_Baeumer Posted February 23 Author Posted February 23 (edited) The Battle of Bapaume! ... the Central Luftstreitkraefte continued to punish Entente forces this week, following the brief Entente success over the Lens sector week before last and the Entente success last Sunday over Bapaume, (pictured below). Both forces appear to be focusing on the Bapaume sector, with advances (represented as mission victory point earned) occurring in that sector 6 of 9 times during the month of February. During the past week, the Kaisers' flyers saw successes three more times, in the week following the intense aerial attacks, that brought Entente its most recent victory last Sunday. The first week of the last half of this tours campaign, sees the following men and material losses and gains made in missions won, with Central leading by a securing victory points at 17 to 5 Entente wins (a 3:1 ratio). Despite this, rumors from German OHL indicate a fear that if the Entente coalition forces become more organized, and pursue a more focused, coordinated attack of meaningful targets and objectives consistently throughout the week, they are in position to turn the tide in their favor while there is still time left in the remaining six weeks or so before the Spring Offensive tour and campaign, that will become known as, "Bloody April". JGr2/J5_Baeumer Posted March 1 Author Posted March 1 ENTENTE CONTINUE TO THEIR PUSH FORWARD The last week of the second month of the Winter Flugpark campaign saw Entente forces begin with determination, persistence during the week, securing the only victory point of the week on the last day. Sunday began with 70 players logging over 90 hours of flying time in a spectacular display of disciplined flying at all altitudes. The high altitude cat and mouse tactics along with the more desperate engagements below resulted in success for both sides as neither won a decisive victory. During the week, notable actions over The Front was observed on Tuesday, when @JG1_Vonrd and Jagdgeschwader 1 arrived in force, and two days later when JagdGruppe 2 organized a flight on Thursday. Both nights the action began about 9pm Eastern. Word in the trenches is they are expecting to see similar action overhead this coming week on Tuesday and Thursday, as mid-week North American pilots from both sides take to the air again. At least that is what the girlfriend of a pilot from both sides is reporting to yours truly for this report (you figure it out). Entente made a final effort on the last day of the month to make their point, which they did overwhelmingly, over a smaller outgunned Central force on station in the Lens sector. The new Verdun map by @JGr2/J5_Mai, saw lots of cat-and-mouse in the slower planes as well as ferocious fighting over the trenches as action focused on reconnaissance, balloon busting, and at the end, a infantry charge (literally) that was stopped by @JGr2/S27b_Loppnow and @Hawkeye and final completion of the artillery position spotting and destruction, resulting in Central earning a campaign point for completion of all objects. Beginning this week, the publisher will be piloting a new schedule that will post weekly summaries on Mondays/Tuesdays that will cover the prior weeks activities through Sunday. However, the elation in the barracks back at the forward fields was short lived, as Central answered back two days later on Friday with a victory that would be a harbinger of things to come on Sunday. The week ended with Central Jagdgruppe and Jagdgeschwader forming to take control of the air in a defensive posture against waves of Entente planes. A total of 85 pilots put on quite a show for over 80 flying hours on Sunday, with Central winning by objective completion immediately following a smaller force that won a campaign point by score, earlier that same day. One highlight was that I finally bagged my first player-controlled Handley Page kill on Flugpark (unfortunately couldn't stop him before the daring pilot destroyed our HQ though). Another highlight was flying the Albatros D.III for the first time on Flugpark as well. Action was constant throughout with some awesome scraps. JGr2/J5_Baeumer Posted March 17 Author Posted March 17 (edited) WINNING BATTLES BUT LOSING THE WAR - BAPAUME BATTLE WON BY ENTENTE Following a disappointing string of recent Central victories widening the gap of their dominance over The Front in recent weeks 25:8, Entente signaled that they still had fight in them by launching wave after wave of large formations on Sunday, to put another win on the board by points in an epic struggle by 80 pilots operating in the area. While impressive, the question is still not answered, if these displays of strength at moments in time is enough to win a war. In the recently published Chronicle newspaper https://discord.com/channels/527195399128350732/1320176571654344825/1350237185814822924, it was reported that some allied flyers were questioning the emphasis on sporadic shows of strength here and there, relying on airplane technological advancements and the skills of their best pilots to win local air contests. This, while largely ignoring the real war below in the trenches that the air services are intended to support, through protection of reconnaissance, bombing, and front line suppression, activities that are largely not consistently on the mission assignment tasking enough during the week. Earlier in the week, that strategy and those tactics were on display, as proving to be a winning strategy for Central forces, contributing to four more victory points for Central, across multiple sectors, ahead Ententes one big but local win yesterday. Strategy and tactics that are sure to be important in the upcoming April Offensives planned in a few weeks. On the heals of the Entente points victory the previous Sunday, a brave and just a wee bit lucky, lone Entente pilot, @RNAS10_James, took to the air in a HP bomber, after greasing some wallets, plying some Irish guards with whiskey, forging some signatures, and a doff of the cap! Flying alone in the quiet hours over The Front, he methodically and mechanically set to work. First he flew reconnaissance flights over every Central field before revisiting them one by one again in a meticulously thought out pattern, and blew them all to smithereens! For this, he won a victory point for Entente by objective, and respect for his planning and ability to carry out such a dead and return alive! Defying the odds this time, he was alone, except for the presence of a single Central pilot known for his own bombing obsessions. http://70.35.192.48:801/en/mission/15010/ As if that was not enough, later the same day, Entente posted a second victory but by points this time. JGr2/J5_Baeumer Posted March 31 Author Posted March 31 (edited) GERMAN ATTACKS INTENSIFY IN FINAL VICTORY'S TO DOMINATE WINTER CAMPAIGN The last week of a hard fought three-month tour closes out the Winter campaign today! Throughout the winter, German forces have been able to hold their positions throughout the trenches, as the German Luftstreitkraefte has dominated across all sectors of the Western Front. As if to put an exclamation on it, Central won four more victories during the final week, including by objective in the last minutes of the final Sunday battle on the Flugpark of the tour! Tour Summary and Analysis: Central won a total of 31 missions to Entente's 10, an impressive ratio of 3:1, suggesting overall dominance of the tour. See the picture below showing all the data discussed in the following analysis. Victories of both sides reveals both sides were essentially equal, both in terms of total flight hours (Entente 2460 / 2466 Central) and pilot numbers (Entente 304 / 295 Central). Total points scored was also essentially equal, with Central only modestly outscoring Entente by 3%, even while Entente shot down 7% more aircraft than Central, possibly explained by Central destroying 11% more ground targets than Entente. Looking at the victories for both sides further, we see: Central wins: 21 were by points, 10 by objectives, which produced a 2:1 ratio of point wins to objective wins; 33% of Centrals victories were objective wins. Entente wins: 8 were by points, 2 by objectives, which produced a 4:1 ratio of point wins to objective wins; 24% of Entente victories were objective wins. The data for the Winter Tour confirms what has been noted before: The Entente Forces have proven again, that its takes more than shooting down airplanes to win the war. The question remains unanswered whether the current GHQ of Entente are listening to the data and their pilots (or not). Other possible explanations may be that effective leadership is distracted, if not almost entirely absent. Whatever the answer to those questions, all may not be lost for Entente. There have been bright spots that have appeared as of late, as some Entente pilots apparently have been seeing the Central success (see the Raid on Roye, just last week, in the report above), and Entente failures. These brave Entente pilots have demonstrated that Entente can have better outcomes by breaking from current attack doctrine, which the data illustrates, places too much emphasis on a few fighter aces dueling it out high above the trenches; instead employing different strategies. Whatever the case, perhaps they are the future leaders of Entente in the process of stepping up to the challenge of the Central forces!? After all, it is in everyone's best interests to have both sides effectively flying and winning...if only to keep this war raging on...for us all! JGr2/J5_Hotlead Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Yesterday was a windy one on Flugpark! Wind notwithstanding, I got into multiple tense scraps and got to participate in several attacks behind enemy lines. I got front row seats to daring ground-pounding missions by Tabasco, Mai, and Matthias, & saw Hawkeye, Sturm, Swippe, Archon, Baeumer, and Klugermann do quality work as fighter escorts. (Also had much-appreciated escort from our friends in J37 on several of the behind-the-lines missions.) Not my usual cup of tea, but it was good fun to get in, strafe ground targets, and see things go boom. 😁 And those last fights before the mission rolled with Hawkeye (and Swippe, I think?) against several Bristols were just another reminder why squadron life and flying with excellent wingmen are a cut above. 🍻 I'll see you all next week! https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2462273311

I started things off in 1918 with the D.XII and D.VIIF and then took a time machine back to 1916 and took the Halberstadt D.II for a spin. JGr2/J5_Hotlead Posted June 23 Posted June 23 Last Sunday saw JGr2 and friends out in force, despite some summer absences. I got to fly with Hawkeye, Wolff, Mai, Klugermann, Swippe, Don Quijote, Tabasco, Konnecke, and Manfreddy. I ended up kicking around in a Dr 1 for most of the afternoon. While hardly proficient in it myself, it was really cool to see some of our Aces put it to deadly use! It was also cool to see groups of RNAS10, No.23, and IRFC (as well as a certain ground pounder local ground troops find it a major bummer to encounter) running daring flights and missions all across the front. After the action, a certain celebrity Ace on the Allied side dropped by to chat and review the day's action. All in all, a really fun time! I got to fly with my squadmates in JGr2 (as well as an old friend in JG1) as we made harassing patrols into enemy airspace.
