Hmmm, maybe a good thing, but then again maybe a bad thing. Back to RL.

My thoughts exactly ?

Must be migrating the platform or doing some thorough changes. Has been down for the whole day.

Maybe it's a complete rebuild to go with the release of all the new features.

Patiently waiting ?

We had an update last night from our NFO server providers to a new PHP version.

This has knocked out the website forum.  (homepage is still there)

We are working to recover the database, etc.

OK, now being serious, this must be a real pain for ATAG. The update, while no doubt necessary, to actually knock the forums out of action for 4 days, must have been really huge and completely unexpected, or really huge and not described in anyway to the Server admin as being likely to knock the forums out of action for so long?

Must be a lot of work going on in the background to fix the resulting issues created by the update?

A little touchy there? I'm pretty sure Eazy was joking as well. Chillax bro.

I fly with a group in some other sims. (AK's, Arabian Knights)  Our Forum had an update too that change PHP and broke everything also.
Was a terrible time trying to roll back and restore from backups.

Oh dear. I thought I was paraphrasing Buzzsaw’s announcement.

Okay, in that case; TFS are on the case so it could take them from now until the spring of 2044 to fix it….if at all.

Is that better?

If I may ask... how is progress going on the forums?

The expectations were, up and running again by last Sunday?

Link is still dead. Does it look like the server update has killed the forums?

See if positively: when the forms will be returning is now one more thing to anxiously expect in CloD‘s world. We have the release date for the visual update, TF6 announcement and now when ATAG will be back online ?

Seriously though. I really hope this hasn‘t led to any data loss. It‘s over a decade of valuable information, where TFS communicates among themselves and also for beta testers and everyone else. Not to mention one more thing on top for TFS to manage.. something everyone really could have gone without.

I‘m visiting it everyday multiple times expecting it to be back online.

Hope it gets sorted out soon and without losses, fingers crossed.

Fingers crossed, sure, but data loss is part of the history of computer science. Internet and forums are not an exception, they are a part of the same process. If the ATAG forum were to disappear I trust TFS would launch a new forum and life would go on.

Little I know about these things, if not nothing, so for me some questions arise: what about the data that constitute not the forums but the games themselves? (Great Battles, DCS, Cliffs of Dover... FIFA 23... whatever). How are our game saves made? Like a forum? Differently? Are the source codes safe enough?

This has got to be a real pain for the team as they use the forums for all the TFS development discussions in their private area (invisible to the non TFS members), so to have all their internal development threads vanish and be inaccessible must me a real pain in the backside.

You're right Puma, provided that the forum data really are lost... So, has this been confirmed? Are the ATAG forum data definitely lost?

Umm......
I am now accumulating a lot of bug reports that I want to post on ATAG's BETA test forum, and hope to fix these bugs as soon as possible, and then release the visual update. Hope it won't be a real 2 weeks later.....?

Posted

Why are bugs being raised on a forum, when there's a bug tracker??? (on a different domain...)

Guys, nearly 2-weeks passed since the ATAG forums disappeared. Can someone update us on the current status (apart from not working) and prognosis?

Thanks in advance.

Ironically it is now back online but "2 weeks" worth of posts are missing ?

Incredible...
Why not rejoice in the return of the forum rather than, again, spin the spoon in the pot?
Trying optimism, it makes you less embittered.

I wasn't being negative, I was saying (hence ironic in the comment) that the ubiquitous "2 weeks" somehow made it's way into the  news.

Blimey, ever thought that humour could be a possibility in a forum post?

Anyway, good news, the forums are back, even though there are still some issues ?

You're right. Humorous (and ironic) comments should continue to be posted.
But frankly, between the pessimistic posts, denigrating the work of TFS and its communication (ok, can be better, I confess), constantly rehashing the same words and complains, it becomes difficult to detect humour (please note, not a personal attack about you, it's my general feeling).
Anyway, this is one of my resolutions for 2023, take comments here with a grain of salt and perspective.
Unfortunately, during new year eve, I make resolutions I'll never keep and also put new wall calendar I'll never look at.

I wish everyone a happy new year but actually the happiness of the upcoming year has yet to be determined (please, don't ask for a release date of this, time is the only answer).

I'll admit, my comment was uncalled for.

Apologies and glad to see it back ?
