It's all to do with the advanced flying settings used. if the mission maker has dumbed down from high AI skill, or even better has set the individual advanced options, then you likely won't see it. (but you won't see much I as in intelligence either...) The AI desperately needs an overhaul, not just for SP but for MP as well. Back in the day SoW used AI extensively (although not as much as I hear TWC are but then we had more players in the community back then) but the same issues seem to remain, namely; - The "I've switched off my brain" drone behaviour - The "I only care about the first player I see, I won't worry that there are currently 11 other AI chasing him, I want to shoot him too dammit!" - The "I won't throw up my lunch regardless of how much I barrel roll" - The "I couldn't hit a barn from the inside" shooting or "I'll take his left eyebrow off with this one" Ah, I see. I use dynmis 99% of the time so would assume this is why i haven't experienced it. I'm reminded of the Total War AI, where upping the difficulty just gives the AI better stats as they can't actually make them smarter?
Rei-sen Posted January 27, 2023 Posted January 27, 2023 This is really sad, since out of 3 modern flight sims, it's the CloD that has the best foundation to be a great WWII combat flight sim.

Good to know, so in current dynmis these problems are not so noticeable? Will give it another try! Last I checked the only one that bothered me was the "I've switched off my brain" behaviour. I think it has to do with the AI having a return to base waypoint, they will unfortunately ignore if there are enemies chasing them (just a guess, haven't tested thoroughly). I've been setting up some scenarios with the FMB, it can be really fun when it's a group vs. another.

It is not very complicated to produce this behavior in the stock Blitz game. Use the dogfight/low level/even stock mission. Flying 1v1 Spitfire 1a 100oct. vs E3 or whatever and you can see rolling behavior followed by "drone" behavior. Why reference a third party add-on? I fly the stock Blitz game and that would seem to me to be the appropriate reference framework.

CR.42s will spin wildly when you're on their tail but I havent noticed the same behaviour with any monoplanes.
Rei-sen Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 While that supernaturally high roll rate is not happening all the time, there's another severe issue with the AI, which is it knows the moment you line up your sights on it's aircraft and it evades immediately. Totally unrealistic and should be considered as a release-blocking issue. Ever seen these prank programs where there's a popup window that constantly moves away from the mouse cursor? 3

I thought it was only me and the way I was playing. Using the in-game measurements of metrics and the 'over-the-target' markers, this occurs at a starting range of .50. Look it could be stated that the pilot has observed you on his six via the plane's canopy mirror.... good in theory, but what about the AC not equipped with rear view mirrors?

My impression has been that the AI reacts to player pressing a fire button. I think this "cheat" has been toned down over time and that rolling behavior has also become less extreme. These behaviors are typically seen together when AI goes into "drone"/leave the fight mode. Hallmark of drone mode is that even if I lose tally on the AI the AI will not use that opportunity to return to offense. (I am referencing 1v1 encounters in the stock game.) Of course bf110 is a different matter due to AI rear gunner who can fire accurately during extreme evasive jinking and possesses 180 degree horizontal and 90 degree vertical firing arcs ? FurphyForum Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 @Dagwoodyt Yep fair comment and I can go with that once the engagement has commenced. However, I was talking about prior to pressing the fire button as @Arthur-A has indicated above.

And I also saw Blenheim do it, but I think I read somewhere it has been fixed
