Why do you say that?

It looks 3d in VR and some things look new too (like the 3d gauges that were 2d). There are some things I am not too sure about if new or old but look for example at the map holder on the right side. The maps look like folded paper in VR.

There are a few things here and there that have been reported for correction, but all in all I’d say it‘s the new one even if not entirely finished.

Maybe someone from TFS can give us the correct answer though.

Was an honest queston. :)

I was looking at the video from the phone so probably didn't spot the little details.

Some textures seems still the old one, but I imagine texture are still in progress.

Cockpits of the Spitfires, Hurricanes and 109's have been updated... so the old elements which were in 2D have been re-done in 3D.

Other aircraft types have also been updated where needed.

Interested people can take this opportunity to save screenshots of existing old version cockpits, when the visual update is released, you will no longer be able to enjoy the old cockpit textures? Meanwhile you will be amazed by the new changes?

Yes, absolutely. Once the visual update is implemented there will be plenty of elements we no longer will be be able to see in the game: our current SpeedTree vegetation and trees, our current 2k textures on maps, 2k textures on cockpits and 2k textures on external view skins, our current Spits, Hurris and 109s presenting a few 2D elements in their cockpits, our 2D clouds (the best 2D clouds ever made are here in this game!). For twelve years YouTube has been filled with videos which show these old features. Those videos will be the witness of the past. I'll miss our 2D clouds... they even more beauteful than the 3D clouds you find in Great Battles, but TrueSKY will be revolutionary, that's for sure. 2D clouds are an obsolete trick in the flight sims discipline. We need 3D volumetric clouds now, 3D clouds... dynamic weather... it is not the future, it is the daily present for all modern standards, and we need "Cliffs of Dover" implements these things. In terms of priorities, TFS' choice is obvious to me.

I am happy for the VR users, but I must say I am not impressed by the videos. Nothing against you J Hat, you are providing some much needed PR here, but it just seems to be the nature of VR users to constantly be moving their head around. Never stopping moving for more than like literally 2 seconds. I can't really tell if anything looks better or not. On top of this the VR resolution just doesn't look good to me IMHO in these vids. A limitation of recording one display and the lesser resolution of VR I am guessing. The clouds look pretty awesome, but I really wish someone would just record something for us Curved & Flat Screeners in 2d with about equal in cockpit and external view times without panning all around externally constantly and not move their head every 2 seconds in the cockpit with TIR. Again, nothing against you J Hat, you are stirring up excitement, just not my kind of excitement. C'est la Vie.

I was recently looking around the hurricane for something and noticed ( for the first time in over 3000 hour) some of the detail around the throttle was very 2d and very low resolution. Not a big deal perhaps but one that shows the “heritage”  when you look close.

Has the whole pit been redone if just stuff like the gauges?

@9./JG52_J-HAT mate, as as flat earther, Im more than happy with what you’ve done. Thank you again.

When all the elements of the 4K landscapes, clouds and trees come together with the bug squashed clouds shadows and corrected lighting perhaps a hat switch pan scenic video would be good.  Until then I don’t see the point.

As it stands I think the videos you’ve made meet exactly their objectives in terms of demonstrating playability in VR and the general state of where the art is at.

@BladeMeister No worries, not everyone needs to like everything ?

But I got a bit confused by your resolution / blurriness comment. The video goes up to 1440p, are you sure you are not watching in a less than ideal resolution? The recorded video is the same as a 2d view on the monitor.

But yeah, every tiny head movement gets picked up by the headset and vr view. Your brain filters everything when you are playing but watching it afterwards can be a but too hectic.

@JHat, Samsung G7 2560x1440 and viewing in YouTube at this res. It's probably just constant movement mixed with my old eyes. ?

Hi Buzzsaw, thanks for the reply. It's just the 3D model that will be reworked (or has been reworked) or also textures for all the cockpit will be updated?

tks

Buzzsaw might respond in the meantime, but I think that the answer is "both": Spits, Hurris and 109s still include a few 2D elements in their cockpits and the plan is to replace these 2D "tricks" with 3D-modelled components. On the other hand, all cockpits in the game, if I'm not mistaken, will be upgraded from 2k up to 4k.

Concerning the Spitfires and their old 2D cockpit elements, please Barone click here, here, here and here. The two latter links directly show the right hand side of the cockpit. But all of these pictures in the forum are at least a year old, so I guess that now, in the closed beta, the cockpits are made at 100% of 3D components.

PS: I didn't know there were 2D elements in the Hurricanes too, I thought these 2D elements in the game were only located in the cockpits of Spits and 109s. At any rate, if I correctly understood, the current closed beta already replaced these 2D components with 3D modelled objects.

You didn't get my question, but that's not a surprise.

I know cockpit are being reworked on the 3D because of VR. As you posted is something we already know since a while.

I was asking if the texture (all of them) in the cockpit will also be upgraded.

If you don't mind I'll wait Buzz's answer. Waiting is not a problem. It's clod ;)

Reread my response. I said "On the other hand, all cockpits in the game, if I'm not mistaken, will be upgraded from 2k up to 4k."

You didn't read my response, but that's not a surprise.

Have a nice evening Barone.
