JG1 is excited to present "Tuesday Night Fights" on our ACME (Air Combat Mission Events) server for Il-2 Flying Circus!

On Tuesday nights, starting at 8pm CST (0200 UTC), JG1 will be hosting open missions created by JG1_Butzzell. The missions will feature a smaller map area to facilitate quicker action but will also emphasize teamwork and objective play to achieve victory.

The server will be full-real, with icons off, and feature repair/rearm capabilities at airfields.

The goal is to add another time in the week where North American pilots (and some crazy Europeans/Aussies/Kiwis) can have populated servers without taking away from other established FC events. We also hope to provide something different from the other excellent offerings the community has produced. Ultimately, we hope this new event helps strengthen the community and support the hobbwe all enjoy.

When flying, JG1 will use the ACME Discord server for comms, so feel free to stop by and say hi! We also have multiple voice channels, so pilots from both sides can have plenty of spots to congregate.

ACME Discord: https://discord.com/invite/QcQ2AcwZhz

ACME stats: http://stats.jg1.org:8000/en/

Discord server moderators are:

Good job Hotlead. I saw this up a few days back. Always good to get more WW1 servers running 24 hours (?) for those in distant lands where participating in northern events can be inconvenient. I even get a ping of 212 which is good for me.

Thanks, Catchov! It’s truly a team effort and we’re happy to add to the community. ? It’ll be up 24/7 unless we need to take it down for events

Hey this sounds good, so every Tuesday is a fly in like the Thursday fly-ins were. I'll have to see if I can get the 20's interested in this.

So, when you say there's objectives, can you be a bit more in depth with that? Like will there be recon, bombing and among other things. We the 20's have been looking into getting back into FC but just haven't found the right venue for us. We are a very objective oriented squad. Oh, the odd time we like to mix it up but happier bombing the shit out of the Germans.

Look forward to seeing you guys up there.

Hey @NO.20_W_M_Thomson! Yes, each Tuesday is a fly-in like Thursdays. We'd love to have No.20 along for the ride!

Right now, the objectives are pretty simple (i.e. bombing targets). We have 2 maps of alternating defense (one side is all-out bombing and the other side defends) and 2 maps where both sides are bombing and first to destroy a set amount of targets wins. Last Tuesday, Allied defended while Germans bombed. This Tuesday will be the reverse, which would be perfect timing if No.20 wanted to get in on some prime bomber action. ?

Thanks for the mission. Good sized map and good number of targets. I was surprised to see so many of the 20's come on. Been a very long time since we did much FC flying. Some of us haven't done any ww1 flying and some only a handful of flying.

Hopefully there will be a lot more Allied pilots next Tuesday and is there a chance we can get some Bristols, even Bristol 2's would be great.

Thanks again.

Thank you for showing up! It was a great turnout for No.20. ? We had anticipated more Allied pilots joining at the beginning of the mission, so in the end a few of us ended up temporarily defecting to balance teams. Hopefully next time we'll get more Allies on. Should be an even map next time, with targets for both sides to bomb/protect.

I'll talk with the map designer to see if we can get Brisfits in the next map too. See you in the skies! ?

Last Tuesday was fun (thanks to all who showed up)! ? I got to have experience as a switch-hitter, starting flying Central and later switching to Entente to help balance teams. This week, Entente was on the attack with Central defending. This meant I got to start flying my trusty Pfalz D.IIIa and ended flying the Airco DH.4.

While I usually fly fighters, flying as a bomber puke with JG1_Vonrd was a lot of fun! Even though Central still outnumbered Entente a bit, we had a very successful run, destroying three bridges, one train, one barge, and one factory — all in one sortie. Made it home in time for tea and medals too. ?

Next week both sides will have targets to bomb. See you then!

Had a lot of fun last Tuesday Night Fight event! I ended up flying multiple different aircraft and getting involved in some pretty epic scraps. Salute to all involved! ?

The best part was that, after testing out the Albatros D.Va, the wings damage model seems to be fixed! Also got in some fights with Camels who didn't shed their wings on a whim. Absolutely lovely! If you've given Flying Circus a break because of the wing damage model issues, I'd totally recommend giving it another try. With the DM finally fixed, the new map being released (early access), and new collector planes coming, the future looks bright for the series! ?

Last night was a lot of fun as usual! Action started right from the get-go with me spotting a Bristol as soon as I spawned in. Things didn't slow down from there, as we encountered a feisty swarm of IRFC dolphins in our lines, got involved in a hornet's nest over a forward Allied airfield, and finished things off playing cat and mouse with Se5as. Really an awesome night!

I also wanted to shout-out BraveHollowMan for subbing to the channel via Prime. Huge salute, man! Thank you for the support! ?

I'll see you in the skies again next week! ?

Had a very big night on the ACME server last night, with 50+ pilots attending! ??

Today, for a change of pace, I flew bombers with the redoubtable pair of J30_Kaiser and J30_Mein. We got in some awesome bomb runs. Just don't look at my bomb accuracy during our last attack vs enemy tanks. ?

After Central flipped the map, some of us stuck around for a hot dogfight between Sopwith Triplanes and Albatros D.Vas. While the Alby still loses wings if you push her, she is vastly improved. Even though I eventually met my demise at the hands of an Ace, I managed to stay combat effective for a while, fighting on with an aileron shot out, one gun destroyed, and engine knackered. Somehow I think my time in the air would have ended far more abruptly with the old DM. So good to be on this side of it at last!

See you all again next Tuesday! ?

Last night on ACME, I got to fly the Handley Page heavy bomber for the first time in a long time. Definitely have to love its handling characteristics! JG1_Vonrd and I ran some high and low level bombing runs, escorted by IRFC Camels (thank you for the fine escort, gents!).

I also have worked on bringing some new things to my livestream, including a preroll and countdown transition. However, even after a lot of testing beforehand, I encountered some glitches, where the screen did not display my flight for the first bit. This being the case, starting the stream at the 24 minute mark should get viewers past the hiccups. Those issues have also since been resolved. ??

I'll see you all next Tuesday! ?

First livestream of the new year! Had fun and got involved in many crazy furballs on the ACME server last night.

The awesome part about flight sims is that even after you've been in it for 11 years (like me) or more (like a lot of the guys I'm privileged to share the skies with), you can always still find ways to improve and get better. When you add that to the fact that FC is experiencing a resurgence thanks to the damage model fixes... 2023 looks to be a good year for us! ?

Last night, we had a lot of fun on the ACME server, with some tense scraps between IRFC / 103rd vs JG1 / J30. We also got to try out the new Verdun map, which gave our navigation a challenge (wait... friendly lines are to the north...?) ?

See you all next Tuesday! ?

Last Tuesday, JG1 ran a Gotha raid on the Verdun map, in conjunction with J5 and J30. It was a blast (pun intended). ? Afterwards, we got into some scraps with Sopwith Triplanes, Bristols, and SPAD VIIs. And I did notice a daring Handley Page raid off in the distance as I ended up doing one of the most exciting glide landings at an airfield I'd had in some time. ?

Thanks to everyone who participated! We'll be back with another mission this coming Tuesday night. ?

Last night on the ACME server, we kicked things off by running a Gotha raid... right next to an active enemy aerodrome. Chances of Camel and Snipe sightings 100%. ?

Salute all! I will be taking the night off from flying tonight, but JG1_Butzzell has tweaked the Battle at Bethune mission for the battles this evening.

Here is the mission for tonight:

Battle at Bethune v2

SITREP:
- Objective: First team to destroy 11 targets wins. (Note: Railroad stations seem to be especially hard - but not impossible - to destroy. Make sure to hit all objects in that target, including water towers.)
- Duration: 2 hours and 10 minutes
- Weather: Light-to-medium clouds at around 1300 meters. No precipitation. Wind is from 040 at 3 m/sec
- In-game start time: 3:30pm
- After a certain percentage of targets are destroyed, tanks may or may not converge upon that side in a last-ditch effort to stop them from winning the map.
- WW1 MGs have been added along the front lines - beware of crossing too low!
- All targets except for the railway stations have had their damage buffed. It will be a bit harder to knock them out now.
- AI for anti-air defenses around targets tweaked. Some of the guns will now have higher AI.

Planeset for tonight:

Central:

Laneuville:
- Fokker D.VIIF
- Fokker D.VII

Last Tuesday on the ACME server, we encountered everything from high altitude Handley pages to low-level bomber flights. Sneak attacks and full-on brawls. I got to spend a lot of stick-time in the vanilla Fokker D.VII too, which was fun. She can't outrun or outturn a Camel, but is amazingly forgiving and still can be a killer. And she (plus her D.VIIF cousin) have to absolutely be my favorite aircraft in Flying Circus to land. Easy 3 point landings for days! ?

Thank you again to everyone who showed up on Tuesday! I'll see you in the war-torn skies next week! ?

- Re-Arm and Re-Fuel available
- After a certain percentage of targets are destroyed, tanks may or may not converge upon that side in a last-ditch effort to stop them from winning the map.
- Destroying all 3 observation balloons per side will set all airfield, backfield, and target anti air defense AI to "Low". They will be much less deadly then.
- Five WW1 MG posts per side have been added along the front lines - beware of crossing too low! These can be spotted by sandbag positions directly in front of rear trenches and are fully destructible.
- Additionally, there are three random troop encampments per side in the backfield. You can spot them by the small cluster of tents near a road. If you wander over them, their one defensive MG post will open fire. This MG post is also fully destructible.

Entente won a close victory in a battle that came down to the literal final second last night on the ACME server. Some great fights! I spent most of my night in flying a DFW with mixed success. (It's fun to shake things up sometimes!) Sometimes I'd be bombing targets with impunity and shooting down Se5as... and other times I'd be completely oblivious to enemy fighters until they whacked me out of the sky. ? All in all, a pretty average experience for anyone in FC multiplayer. ?
Thank you to all who showed up! I'll see you guys next week! ?

As some of you may know, JG1 and I are amicably parting ways for this season in life. (You can read more here.) With this being the case, Tuesday Night Fights will be coming to an end. Good question! It is now 8pm CDT, so it'll be an hour earlier if you don't adhere to daylight savings time.

Honestly, I'd be cool with being done with daylight savings time. Makes life too complicated. ?

Hi All,

Regarding the ACME: Tuesday Night Fights –

JG1’s dedication to WW1 is undiminished.  And as a squadron, we are currently discussing how best to keep the series going.  The biggest challenges have not been hosting the missions or running the server.  Instead, it’s been on responding promptly to your excellent feedback and ensuring your suggestions are seriously considered and implemented.  The mission update process has taken a bit of organizational know-how and has been tricky.

Additionally, while Hotlead mentioned that the Tuesday Night Fights would end in his final event coordinator post, he was misspeaking there a bit.  With Hotlead’s transfer to Jasta 5, Hotlead is focusing on flying with his new Jagdstaffel.  I’m now handling the management of ACME.  And while there has been discussion within JG1 about moving our practices back to Thursdays, nothing has been finalized.  Since that decision directly affects our collective Tuesdays, I’ll get back to you all as soon as possible.

In the meantime, assume we’ll still fly next Tuesday, 21 March 2023, as usual – 9:00 PM EDT.

Don’t hesitate to contact me with any thoughts or concerns.  A direct message, the ACME Discord, the JG1 Discord, or even the JG1 forums are good ways to reach out.

Thanks so much for your continued support!  It means a lot to us.

Like Klaiber said, JG1 will be continuing the Tuesday Night Fights event on an every-other week basis. With that being the case, I got to fly with my friends in JG1 last night. ? I tried a bunch of different planes that night... Albatros D.Va, Fokker D.VII, and the spritely Fokker Dr 1.

Thanks for all who could make it and thank you to JG1 for organizing the event! I'll see you for the next flight on April 4th!

Hi everyone -

ACME: Tuesday Night Fights! will go on a hiatus. I cannot maintain the event in its current form due to real-life and scheduling issues. And rather than see the event’s quality decline, I feel it’s better to stop and reassess.

If people want to see ACME continue, feel free to reach out on the ACME Discord. Others in JG1 will be stepping up to fill the void. And they’ll need community help!

For tonight, JG1 pilots will be heading to Jasta 5's Flugpark to fly.

We hope to see you there!

Hi All,

@II./JG1_Kliegmann is working on a new WW1 mission for ACME. And he's hoping that the community would be interested in helping him test.

The new map features balloon busting, Allied reconnaissance, German artillery spotting, a "Steal the Prototype" mission, and other suprises.

Obviously, this is still a beta version of the map, so your input would be extremely valued.

We're hoping to get together on the ACME Discord on Tuesday, 11 April 2023 at 9:00 PM EDT / 0100 UTC. https://discord.gg/qeZds3Gv?event=1095048005402501323

Note that the below image shows my time zone!
