AI Crash Into Player Planes On Take Off - EDIT ISSUE RESOLVED

Salute,

Please see the attached video which shows 2 AI planes taking off at the same time and crashing into waiting player aircraft.

This is a @SYN_Vander Easy Mission Generator mission.

We found this issue whilst investigating previous issues of AI planes not taking off at all when using the mission generator, we are even more confused now!

I have posted this here and tagged Syn_Vander as I think it is perhaps both a game issue (AI take off logic) and mission design issue?

I'v seen something similar yesterday where the AI leader of a full AI flight waited very long before take-off. At first I thought it wouldn't take off at all, but after a long time going full revs it finally took off.  I checked that mission in the editor and nothing seemed wrong; they should have taken off immediately.

Don't know what is happening here, it seems  the leader is just waiting then all takes off at once as if there was some time-out happening.

I can only advise for now to always take the last slots in a coop mission. AI simply can't be trusted.

Noted, however one of the reasons we were carrying out this investigation was to replicate the issue of the AI NOT taking off at all, thus when we take the back slots in a flight we end up getting boxed in and can not always "lucky-boy left" (one for the older members of the forum ;) ). It turned out we were not able to replicate that behavior either when hosting a EMG mission on a single pc or using the D-Server application on our squad server, its a real lucy-dip as to what happens at the moment.

Many thanks for your reply and the time you will no doubt spend investigating your end.

Before DD_Friar had a look and produced the above video I also tried to reproduce the AI take off issues that happened during a squad session when flying coops on my computer (not dserver) with other DangerDogz (DD_s). The issues we found were AI aircraft not moving and AI colliding with humans. The AI not moving and collisions I believe are a recent development for me when hosting ie. less than 1 month, the non-moving AI are a significantly longer development for the DD_s, perhaps 8 months as we have had to alter missions and ways of hosting to account for the development during this time because of it.

During my test missions a couple of days ago to reproduce these issues the AI didn't misbehave at all. They misbehaved in the morning but not in the evening. The squad session and tests were carried out on the same computer with the same missions. Literally, the only difference between the squad session and my tests was that in the morning when there were issues there were 5 humans flying, in the evening when there weren't any problems, just one....

I created some new Syn_Vander missions to test, single player and cooperative, and the AI behaved as they should in all of them. I also used the already-created Syn_Vander missions I ran earlier and have used many times before and the AI behaved. The mission I created to test was a basic mission, engines running on the runway, Rheinland map, 4 x Hurricane Escort flight in front, 4 x A20 Lead flight behind.

I was the only human and wherever I placed myself in a flight of aircraft on the runway as number 1, 2 or 3 all aircraft in front of me, other flights included, took off. When it came to my turn to move I sat and waited but no aircraft moved forward to collide with my rear - I was fully expecting to be hit because of the events earlier in the day and was surprised when I wasn't. The only time the aircraft behind me moved was when I exited the mission - during the very brief period from me disappearing from view and the mission closing - as soon as I disappeared they revved up and moved forward just before the mission closed.

I also didn't experience the 45 second delay mentioned in the previous posts between the first and second flights taking off, the second flight started moving as soon as the wheels of the last one of the flight in front left the ground.

On all occasions during my tests all of the AI put their navigation lights on. This appears to be a clear indication that they are alert and ready for take off. On the occasions I or the other DD_s have experienced problems with the AI in front that don't move and we have to manoeuvre around them, their nav lights don't come on. This is usually when we have humans in positions 1 and 2 of the first flight to take off - the humans take off and the AI sit there with engines running and nav lights off. On most occasions, when we return, the AI are still in position on the runway but now their nav lights are on. This also happens when the aircraft start on the ramp as well as on the runway.

As DD_Friar's video, Syn_Vander's experence above and my tests show there is no consistency in results. Very odd.

@DD_Friar, mission file, I need a mission file for the test.

Update: I am pleased to report that after running numerous missions using different airfields and different plane combinations (all starting from the runway, engines running) via @SYN_Vander easy mission generator all of the AI took off promptly and without crashing into other waiting planes.

We can now get back to normal co-ops!

Many thanks for your time (I assume it was the elves you keep looked away working on these things) in getting this sorted.
