Missionbug Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 Excellent work all around, congratulations to all involved, especially looking forward to this map. Take care and be safe. Wishing you all the very best, Pete.
BornToBattle Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 Oh man I can’t wait to intercept these things and in VR no less!!! Disrupt the airflow and keep it steady to within 6” of it ala BoB…this will be way off the coolness charts!!! 1
simfan2015 Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 This will feel like an entire new sim !!! Congratz and thank you !

BiggusDickus Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 Wow! This week's DD has really got my anticipation levels up a notch (i.e. more than usual).
56RAF_phoenix56 Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 Those great renditions of UK airfields bring back many satisfying memories of CloD campaigns. However, for cross-channel missions to work, we need decent radar! 56RAF_phoenix 2
kestrel79 Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 Looks great nice work. I can't wait to just casually fly on this map too with all the water like Kuban.
Avimimus Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 (edited) Surprises, surprises, surprises! I think the BoN product description deserves an update! Quote We have found a clever way to make infantry objects that appear pretty convincing. These soldiers can advance and shoot at the enemy and of course they can perish. Just don’t ask these little pixel soldiers to make you a sandwich or tea, they aren’t that smart. The obvious question is - will they be capable not advancing? Or of going prone? This is important for Tank Crew - as infantry were often a target for tanks (and gives more of a purpose to our HE rounds), but having infantry advance across open ground towards tanks would be very unusual... whereas having them be able to move short distances or crouch in a village would be more fitting for scenario builders. P.S. This could also benefit Flying Circus eventually. I honestly see this tech as way more important/useful for FC and TC than BoN... P.P.S. Does the animation rig for infantry mean we're likely to get more animations for anti-aircraft guns? I can't help but wonder looking at this 88: Spoiler Edited May 27, 2022 by Avimimus 3

Guest deleted@134347 Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 @Jason_Williams, the screenshots look great, I love the progressive development and addition of the new map details, One question though: are you ever going to change the Purple tone of the cities to a more warm one, maybe yellow/orange? From a distance, well, and at close range too, the eggplant hue is the most immersion breaking part of the cities, it makes the cities look empty/dead (my personal take). or maybe it's just my eyes.
Avimimus Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 39 minutes ago, Bars- said: The looks of infantry aren't good. Even ugly maybe. Buildings in cities are surreal. Too much of repeating structers. Trees in cities are huge. So cities don't look good, don't look real at least. The same goes for the open spaces: trees are too big and too similar to each other, patches look artificial. All in all that doesn't look like that's 2022 game. I'd recommend looking at actual aerial photographs to see how big trees are. Or actually going outside and making an effort to compare their heights with those of buildings (i.e. really trying to assess their relative heights). Of course, depending on where you live the trees might be very small (e.g. in a desert environment, or even a Prairie)... but in a lot of other places trees routinely are twice the height of many buildings (e.g. my neighborhood the trees are all three to six stories tall). As for the rest - this is a flight simulator with a huge number of buildings within sight at altitude etc. So detail has to be a bit limited. The fact is that this looks like what a flight simulator looks like in 2022 (comparable to DCS but not an FPS). Even a lot of RTS games actually have very small maps. Try to find an RTS game with a 50km by 50km map which has more detail... then you might have an argument. 4
Vastarien Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 I’m relieved to see the map look so convincing. How I wish the Rheinland one could get some rework to match the same quality… 4
simfan2015 Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 (edited) @Bars- This content update will make IL-2 GB truly unique ! If flightsims need to look like the best FPS down low and you have huge maps like these then I guess we are going to need at least 256 GB of RAM and the rumoured RTX 4090 Ti. Not even DCS World offers what you would suggest and we all know the low framerate we get on the marianas map in the AH-64D in Ultra 4K / VR. At least I get near constant +120 FPS in IL-2 GB. J2_Bidu Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 I'm overwhelmed by the awesome advances of this DD. In particular, the possibilities this infantry development opens are terrific, at least for immersion purposes. What a beautiful job, folks! 1

FlyingNutcase Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 It's really great to catch a peek at the new map and very happy that it holds up to expectations! The addition of infantry/people open up all sorts of poosibilities. The biggest questions will be how naturally they move and how naturally they behave. Time will tell. FIngers crossed. As mentioned above, it would be great to see more airfield activity, like mechanics working on planes etc etc. And I guess the V1 will be "flippable". That should be pretty epic (and harrowing) in VR. BoN is really looking fine. Thank you devs, and Producer.

MajorMagee Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 I'm just hoping that the Normandy map will be fully TC compatible.
616Sqn_Tyggz Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 Anyone noticed that each of these LCI ships has its own number assigned to it? If you look in the mission editor you can see the option to apply a code to the ships. (Though this isn't functional yet) Just a tiny bit strange to see these Garands in cherry red though - Could probably do with a little desaturation. 1
pilotpierre Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 Incrabloodyredible ible , ible. I mean shiver me Timbers, the Normandy map with the flea, tick, midge squasmito, (damned chemo brain fog) but most of you know what plain plane I mean. What can we do with the drunken sailor while waiting for this? it is incredible the amount of content and dedication has gone into this since the original IL2 Sturmovic hit the streets so long ago. Kudos to all involved in its development along the way and all presents incumbents (except maybe Jason, not sure if his heart is really in it sometimes)

PatrickAWlson Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 Infantry!!!!! So many possibilities. Great for WWII, probably even more important for WWI. If they reach their full potential, most important of all for TC. Probably getting way ahead of myself, but still, great to see.
Jason_Williams Posted May 27, 2022 Author Posted May 27, 2022 Guys, I should some better expectations on the infantry. They are not what you'd find in a shooter. They are essentially a five turreted tank in disguise. They aren't particularly smart etc. We added them because they help paint the scene and liven up the invasion and the battlefield. Of course we know you will want more of them, but time will tell on what we can do. Our previous attempts as smarter more dynamic infantry failed due to lack of talent, so we resorted to this somewhat clever solution. I personally haven't seen them in action myself yet or played with them in any missions. This is just an early test we showed you pics of. They do have little death animations though. Jason 8 9 14
86th_Buzzi Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 (edited) Great work on the Normandy map, it's really looking incredible and looks to be a big step up from previous maps. Also the concrete Flak pens around the V1 sites are sweet. ? I'm very much looking forward to this! Edited May 27, 2022 by 86th_Buzzi 1
easterling77 Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 You guys are the best. The new map looks outstanding..and the Infantry...? your dedication to keep this sim allways getting better is awesome

Jason Thank you for limiting our expectations! It is good to be pre-emptive about this. Do let us know if any tests with a PIAT (or PTRD) equipped infantry hiding in a village work out for TC... as that would add an entire new dimension. The same goes if this becomes useful for giving WWI aircraft a new target type! I understand tech limitations exist, but I'm sure we are as excited as you are to see what the limits of the feasible are! So... do let us know if any further experiments work ? 3
MajorMagee Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 (edited) Repurposing the tank code is actually a fairly good way to do simulated infantry that can tactically maneuver and shoot. Given the proper protection level and damage box modeling they'll only "die" (combat ineffective) when their part of the squad takes a hit. Edited May 27, 2022 by MajorMagee 1
=EXPEND=CG_Justin Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 I'd love too see video of the V-1! Awesome update team, thanks!
