AndyJWest Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 To hold a left turn, apply right aileron... What's with the wing bracing wires? Someone getting nervous?
ST_Catchov Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Amazing! It's reminds me of forgetting to enable trackir before flying. We've all done it.

Todt_Von_Oben Posted May 23, 2022 Author Posted May 23, 2022 Non-authentic flying wires; additional bracing for the wings. Not aileron cables.
Holtzauge Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Mikael Carlson's site was hacked a while back and was down for a while but is now back up. You can find nice pictures of his Dr.I here. I doubt you will find anything out of place in those pictures (except stuff that can be removed and aid daily operations) since he is a real stickler for historical accuracy. And as @J99_Sizzlorr observed: That's not Mikael. At least he didn't have a teardrop tattoo and a goatee beard last time I saw him anyway.
Todt_Von_Oben Posted May 23, 2022 Author Posted May 23, 2022 Not Carlson. Right. I was looking at a lot of videos last night and Carlson's name was fresh in my mind. Michal Jaroszczyk is the author. I see things in this video that should be of interest to FC Dr.1 pilots; so far everyone's missed it all. Anyone?

Todt_Von_Oben Posted May 24, 2022 Author Posted May 24, 2022 Yes, there are aileron cables and flying wires present. If he had a goatee or teardrop tat; I didn't notice. The video illustrates this Dr.1's performance as seen from the cockpit; allowing us to observe and evaluate control inputs and aircraft responses from the viewpoint of the pilot; or as a flight instructor would. Look at how he flies. What does that tell you? Anyone?

Unfortunately, you can't actually see the stick, or control surface movements other than the ailerons. For that, it would have been better to mount the 3D camera somewhere where the pilot didn't block the view aft.
BlitzPig_EL Posted May 24, 2022 Posted May 24, 2022 (edited) It looks like he is cross controlling. Making left turns with the ailerons positioned for a roll to the right. Edited May 24, 2022 by BlitzPig_EL

Yeah, I commented on that earlier. This is a Dr.1 (or at least, something approximating to one) and I suspect it may be tricky to make a proper coordinated tight turn, given its lack of stability in yaw. Maybe it is deliberate though - making flattish turns to help keep the other aircraft in sight? I'd be interested to see what @Chill31 has to say about the video.
