I see that two responders to this video have encountered dead pixels and returned their units. Looks like there is a significant quality control issue emerging :(

Other responders, who also have received their Aero, do not mention a dead pixel issue

I’ll be eager to see if any of you can get VRNecksafer to work with the Aero. In recent posts in that thread and a mention in the Varjo Discord, it doesn’t work yet, though I would expect it to since it ties into SteamVR.

(For anyone unaware, the VRNecksafer thread is at https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/67985-simple-tool-to-check-your-six/ )

I myself will not, I prefer no mods and have no plans of using it.

Interesting on how reviewers impressions of the distortion issue vary.

Looks like mine will be arriving sometime in Feb.

Curious, how do you check your 6 without it? My neck won't go beyond about 20 degrees past 90/270 which is why I love my TIR for flatscreens. Without some sort of view modification (native in the sim or something like VRNS) I can't fly combat sims.

I have a swivel chair which is a big advantage over real life, on how much you can turn to check your six, specially with a 4 or 5 point tight harness in a plane you can hardly move.

I like VR for realism and that is part of it, disadvantage in MP? , yes big time, for sure, but I don't care, fastest way to check your six is with a mouse, which is arcade and very unrealistic , but a big advantage.

I tried neck saver, worked for a while then not anymore, I wont be bothered again I think.

I can relate with the notion of realism and the hesitation of utilizing unrealistic aids. However I'd like to add that most VR headsets are heavily FOV limited and restrict the ability to spot movement at the corner of your eyes. IMO some kind of artificial equalizer is helpful at this point.

Same here - use of swivel chair and twisting my body some, along with judicious use of mirrors when equipped.

I am sticking with 1:1 head movement = however I only fly SP. Plus my fov is already limited by partial blindness anyway.

I use a fixed chair (never used neck safer) and try to turn my body and neck as much as possible. But only SP.

I prefer to feel the pressure and eventually (and virtually) die.

That is what I also do. The swivel chair does help.

I know some do find it so, but I've don't feel that way. Got Rift CV1 in July 2017 (still using it and is the only way I fly since getting it), and have done a lot of MP, and am happy with how I do (still plenty of room for improvement). Not as much lately but am hoping schedule will allow me more before too long. I seem to spot things plenty good (bounced if I don't scan the sky enough but not much if I spend plenty of time looking all around) and once in a while mis-ID'ed and shot someone I shouldn't have but much less that at first using VR. I've been lucky my vision is still as good as it is. Maybe the lower resolution I am running at (than more recent headsets) makes spotting in the distance easier, not sure as this is the only headset I've tried.

+1, and in my own case I play in a motion platform chair that does not allow me to swivel, hence VRNecksafer being a personal requirement for me to truly enjoy MP.

When I (eventually) receive my Yaw2 from my Kickstarter pledge I will then be in a chair that swivels- but that will swivel based on the plane’s yaw movement, so I will still need something like VRNecksafer to actually look over my shoulder to simulate normal FOV and compete with TrackIR flyers. ?

Addressing dead pixel issue. Today we have spent whole day identifying the issue. It was a gap in quality check process at manufacturer/factory of the displays panels. This will be eliminated as soon as possible, and the next batch of devices that will be shipped out at the middle of the next week will be manually rechecked before shipping. Every headset affected by a pixel issue will be exchanged without delay - ARMA - meaning you will get replacement first and only then Varjo will pick up defective unit. Please contact Varjo support if you are affected providing serial number of your device and preferably images of the the dead pixels taken with phone camera. As I said previously, all replacements will be manually checked before being sent out. Of course every replaced device's warranty will start from the date when you receive a replacement.

They have also stated shipments to U.S. will begin with their shipments next week as well.

Received notice this morning from Varjo that my unit will be shipping in the next two weeks.

At least it is getting closer now.

That should be the best, for now.. :)

This came up on the Varjo Discord, I think it should be a must-do before running your new Aero if you have had any other VR headset installed before.. just my $.02.

If you have had other headsets installed it seems that SteamVR may get a bit "confused" and cause issues. Here is the definitive way to get SteamVR back to a fresh install for the Aero.. https://steamcommunity.com/app/250820/discussions/2/1640917625015598552/

In a nutshell -

1. Close Steam and Steam VR

2. Delete "default.vrsettings" from x:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\common\SteamVR\resources\settings folder

3. Delete "steamvr.vrsettings" from  x:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Config folder

4. Delete "lighthousedb.json" from  x:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Config\lighthouse folder (in my case coming from a G2 the Lighthouse folder was empty)

5. Start the Steam app, be sure Games and Tools are checked so SteamVR shows up in the list. Right click SteamVR then \Manage\UNINSTALL

6.Go back and look in x:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\common\SteamVR\ folder, delete all contents under it.

7. Go back into Steam, select SteamVR, click the big Blue INSTALL button.. Done.

It is very good that you mention this. Most people do not do this, which most often leads to troubles.

On the one hand i'm jealous, on the other i'm glad I don't have it yet as it seems many users are discovering all kinds of little glitches that i'm sure Varjo will fix... hopefully by the time mine arrives!

This is good to know - Varjo's take on returns if one does not like it.

Edit: I would note the below was not a response to me but to an individual who posted it on the Varjo Discord.

I'm probably still a few weeks away at the least. A friend of mine who has an order number in the 828xx range was notified on Monday that his order will be shipping in the next 2 weeks.

That's standard practice in the UK and I suspect the rest of Europe. Online shopping laws, they have to take it back and refund if you decide you don't like it within 14 days.

There are a few common sense exceptions like downloaded software and online gambling. But if you buy online and don't like what's sent it goes back for refund and that's protected by law

Well I have yet to return a headset I did not like, and sure am hoping the same will hold true with the Aero. And I am really hoping I can get back to using just one headset again with the Aero.

And if you sell your 3 current devices you nearly paid the Aero.

Let´s see your impressions. I will be interested to know what are the actual number of pixels when you will set SteamVR SS to 100% for every PPD mode of the Aero. This will determine the load to the GPU which depending of the mode could be less than the G2 at 100%.

As of this morning it shows arrived in Memphis with an exception for a clearance delay. Others are reporting the same.

Shipment requires importer's registration/identification number for clearance. (Examples include EIN, SSN, VAT, GST, RFC, etc.) Recommended action: Importer must provide the required registration/ identification number.

VR Flight sim Guy discusses distortion in the Aero:

Mine is still showing clearance delay. Varjo sales tells me they are working on it.

Nothing has changed on my end, still showing delayed with a clearance hold.

That’s odd, mine seemed to be with all the others, but this morning it was released and sitting in Tampa…. Until Monday

What is really odd is while it states Clearance Delay - Memphis, when I check tracking details it shows it was scanned in at a small town about 20 miles from me.

So I contacted both Fed Ex and Varjo this morning, was sent form 5106 and told I need to fill out and return, which I have done.

Will see if this gets my headset out of Fed Ex hell.

Don't be surprised if these are being stolen right off the fed ex docks, had the exact same thing happen over Christmas with a throttle coming in from Europe, but it was DHL.  Your doing the right thing acting early, way to be on them.  This kind of theft is becoming a major issue, its getting organized.  Stores aren't the only thing being looted with smash and grabs.

This guys sums up the distortion problem some people are seeing within the headset very well at the 14:30 point.

Mine is still in Fed EX purgatory - I am about ready to tell Varjo where they can shove this headset.
