"The AQMG is located inside the GUI beside the QMB and you can easily transition between the two features."

I don't understand , How do I find this new feature

Posted (edited)

On the main IL2 opening screen where you would select Quick Missions, Mission, Campagins, Multiplayer and so on. Select Quick Missions as you would have done before.

You should see that there are new star and cross icons over some airbases on the maps that have the AQMG feature installed, this initial release includes the Moscow, Stalingrad, Kuban and Rhineland maps. Click on one of them and it will offer you some more options.

Tip

After playing around with this a few times, I notice that while you have drop down options for selecting targets, the map is also interactive in that respect. So you can select an airbase then select a target by clicking on it on the map, after which the two will be joined by a yellow line.. This gives you the option to generate longer missions as the drop down will automatically offer the nearest target.

See below.

I know that GUI part is hard to do, especially on an ongoing development, but I find it frustrating to navigate and even find new features lately.
Till now I could not find at all how to edit the numbers and chars on planes.

And now its even confusing navigating to the advanced quick mission builder.
Its important to understand that many of the players start the game, get the update without diving into the release notes of every update.
Even if reading the update release notes its not so clear and till you run the game and want to use the new feature you forgot part of the steps and cannot find it.

Ofcourse all these additions and new features are welcome and exciting, but it could be improved (the GUI and how devs design it).
In short: Any new feature should not be hidden behind some small button or some user navigation flow, it should be displayed boldly and be visible straight away to anyone.

But how do you do this? In web design you have to be very careful with making anything stand out over anything else without a lot of intention.

Is IL-2's most important feature multiplayer? The quick mission builder? Career mode? Which gets the big bold treatment? Do they all get the big bold treatment.

UI and UX is hard.

I think @Zeev is talking about some basic documentation like having @Pict’s graphic showing how to locate the AQMG. I think it’s a valid critique.

I think you're right but ironically it's their own graphic that I used above in an effort to illustrate what I attempting to explain. I just copied the .url from the appropriate news page. https://il2sturmovik.com/news/670/update-4605/ If I'd had the time earlier I'd have taken an in game screen shot or two and jazzed it up with a few arrows to highlight things.

That said when you are on the inside looking out it's never easy to explain the workings of your creation to those on the outside who are just seeing it for the first time. So it's understandable that things can appear to lack some measure of explaination to some users.

What's the solution, leave it as it is and let them find out by trial and error until they post a question on the forum like this, or could they ask for a little assistance from a tester with a background in instruction to put together a mini overview of the new item? I'm alomst sure that they have a few people that meet that description who would be willing to do it.

I'm always in favour of documentation. For sure!

I've thought about creating various guides but it's a labour intensive project.
