Hello

After a long time, I decided to replace my old one
samsung odyssey plus for the new HP Reverb G2. I wonder if it is
a new cable version (V2) is already included with the purchase of the new HP reverb G2.
I would buy from Bestware or Amazon .de
Where do you recommend my purchase.

Thanks for the advice and greetings to all Il2 fans.

Hello

I'm a newbie regarding VR Headset and I've bought a HP Reverb G2 last Friday (I guess the new cable was included into the box...). Spent my week-end to taste it with a PC powered with a i9 processor and a Nvidia Geforce RTX 3070. You'll need two applications to install your new HP Reverb G2 windows application for VR headset  - but windows opens this application as soon as you plugg your Headset into the PC - and a SteamVR application which is to download from Steam application. Don't forget to select VR option in Il2 Great Battles "launching" application.

Then I would say - but it is up to each player :

-regarding immersion it's just great. I was really sitting into the cockpit of my fighter.

-regarding comfort it's rather unpleasant because I had motion sickness. By visiting forums I could read this is normal at the beginning and the player get used to it ater a few hours spent by playing with a VR Headset. As long as I was taking off flying straitght ahead and landing it was ok but yesterday I tried a fight with bandits and I had to leave the game quickly....I wasn't sick but it is unpleasant indeed.

-regarding the beauty of image...disappointed because if I look at a dashboard dial that dail is loud and clear but the others are blurring. Same if you look into the gunsight for instance - gunsight is loud and clear but all around is blurring. It is much less beautiful then with the TrackIr. I could read on forums this is the fact of the VR lenses : loud and clear on a precise spot and blurr around.

Well. With HP Reverb G2 I'm left unsatisfied but it's an opinion. Other players will maybe say more positive things.

Greetings.

Azdack, after several years in VR, I can say that this lack of "edge to edge clarity" with the G2 is mitigated by training yourself to move your entire head for the sharp/clear view vs. naturally just moving your eyes (which will take you to the more blurred portion of the lenses).  It takes some time, but it does become second nature in VR.  For most of us in VR, the immersion you mention outweighs the sharper/clearer "pancake" view of the monitor - even with a TrackIR.

But there are certainly some who have tried VR that agree with your current opinion that they want to see everything in the full beauty of this sim when they are flying vs. the increased immersion VR brings - but with the trade offs you mention.  For me, I will still go back and watch some of my recorded flights on a monitor for what I consider the current best of both worlds.

Finally, I also think those of us who have been through the early headsets are probably a little happier with the newer generations like the G2 simply because we know how far the technology has come regarding the clarity (when is the last time you heard anyone mention screendoor here?).  So we may build too much expectation for someone coming from a monitor when first trying out VR.  We still know there is a ways to go for someone who wants monitor full quality visuals - which is why my current hopes are pinned on the mythical Valve Deckard (Index 2).  But for now, I am plenty happy with my G2 compared to my original CV1 or a monitor.  So, keep trying it for a few more days, you may still become a VR convert. :)

Thanks Varibraun. I'll try again by moving my entire head and not only my eyes remembering that my first feeling was...wuuuuahh when I found my self sitting into the cockpit of a yak 127 with a HP reverb G2. By the way if I may : is there a way to center my dashboard in the middle fo the G2 because I was sometines shifted regarding my sit into the cockpit and a further more question, is there a way to check my six better then twisting all my body on my gaming chair. Thanks for your answers.

You can save current head position. I think it was Shift+F10 or F10 by default.

1) put your head into the position you want as center (by moving your head)

2) press F10 (saves position) and notice the view shifting

3) press center VR head position to center

From now on the new center is assigned to the particular aircraft you are sitting in. Repeat the process for all aircraft individually if you want to.

Yes, there is - this is a fantastic piece of free software for exactly that:

A couple of things to add to the great advice above from @SCG_Fenris_Wolf and @Charlo-VR:

-Voice Attack software is cheap and almost necessary in VR (at least for me).  I have all of the commands Fenris notes for centering and saving programmed into Voice Attack so I don't have to mess around finding those keys while in the headset.  This makes centering a much easier process.

- @J2_NobiWan's VRNecksafer is another "game changer" for VR.  I literally want to thank him every time I see him flying in FC MP (but am in VR and I can't type so I bought a second copy of FC2 instead).  That said, you probably want to get some VR time without any nausea before trying it.  It can be a little disorienting at first to go "Linda Blair" mode in a headset!

Anyway, thanks again NobiWan, Fenris & Charlo for all of your continuing contributions to this VR community! :salute:

Hi Guys regarding the G2 version 2 cable , I have just got of the phone to HP and they are sending a new cable for free even though the headset is out of warranty.

Don't know how long they will keep doing this for but anyone still with the old cable it might be worth giving them a call. All they asked was what Motherboard and processor I had.

Azdacks post reminded my why I have stayed with my Index. Not tried the G2 yet but in comparison to my previous Oculus headsets(DK2, CV1, Rift-S and Quest 2) the Index is so much better. I don't even notice the sweet spot anymore. Edge to edge clarity s good and I'd rather have that large sweet spot over greater clarity and smaller Sweet spot. I've got used to being able to move my eyes as well as moving my head to look around.

I highly recommend using this while available. I have a G2 and I used this option. The difference is like night and day. The headset just works on my AMD system, every time. And the clarity of the image has improved significantly as well. The cable also feels more sturdy than the old one. All cudos to HP for doing this for free for us that have bought a G2 with the v1 cable, that is how you treat your customers! ?

Cheers

Yes, I know several others here felt the same way as you on this.  I never had the Index to compare, so I enjoy the clarity of the G2, but I really hope that the next Valve headset will give us both and isn't too far away (and is less expensive than the Varjo Aero).

My feeling also having used the Index several years now. I started with a CV-1 then Samsung Odyssey OG and +. The + seemed pretty much a scam and I eventually sold mine. I still have the OG but have not used it since I got the Index. I never liked WMR and that keeps me away from HMD's that require it. I much prefer the lighthouses. With WMR I had to learn how to turn my head in just the right drections at starup or the cockpit would move with me  ?  I have never had to search for a "sweet spot" with the Index. Quality of the Index and base station packaging was also first rate, reminding me of the CV-1. I cannot speak to motion sickness as I never experienced it with any of my HMD's.

I am in the same situation as you.

I recently got my Reverb G2 and the immersion is really great, but regarding the image quality I am also disappointed!

Clairity is "good" in the cockpit but when looking at things far away I think it is really bad, cant understand how someone is able to identify friend from foe until they are really close!

The sweetspot is small but I guess I can get used to turn my head instead of the eyes and I also read that there is modified facemask to buy, that will increase the FOV and sweetspot a little bit.

I understand there is alot of tweaking necessary to get optimal results so hopefully I can find a soloution that will work for me soon.

I also got a strange unpleasant feeling at beginning when I used it, mostly when on the ground actually. I was stupid enough to do a dogfight, first time I tried it, and had to exit the mission before it was over. Even if I knew it was a bad idea I could not resist trying it out, hahaha.

@Customizer171

Unfortunately I'vn't got time to tame my HP reverb G2 those days. I'll try again later including voice attack and the tool to check my six as explained above. The free time I have to play is reduced and I went back to TracKIR to fly with the last quick mission builder released with last Il2 BOS update.

Thanks to all players for their help.

See you soon.

很长一段时间后,我决定用

购买新的 HP reverb G2 时是否已包含新的有线版本 (V2)。
我会从 Bestware 或 Amazon .de
购买你在哪里推荐我的购买。

感谢所有 Il2 粉丝的建议和问候。

I am new to vr and if buying vr accessories I would recommend buying kiwidesign products, the quality and comfort level is high, I am a fan of them and recommend them sincerely.

Hello

yesterday i got a new HP reverb G2 (purchase through Amazon.de). I happily connected it to my computer following all the instructions and a surprise followed. The computer detected it for only a few seconds in the Mixed reality portal and then the end-of-the-joy all black. error 1-4 and all black. I tried everything, but the  computer no longer detects it at all. The light on the power box on the cable flashes white and the mintor's screen says connect HMD. I had ocous rift CV1 and samsung odysey + but there were never any problems with them. The supplied power cord is V1. Please for some advice.

Thanks and stay healthy.

Good to hear I ordered the new cable today and hope it solves my issues with the G2.

I just checked my new cable is showing I should get it on Friday. No flight sims tomorrow guess I will go back to playing a little MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries in VR with my Index. Index is great for that, not so much for flight sims.

Well at least I found my Index seems to be able to co-exist with having the WMR software installed for the Reverb G2, so that is good. Have been gaming with the Index all day today ( not flight sims though). I am going to start referring to the Index as Ole Reliable LOL.

I will definitely want to use the Reverb G2 for MSFS 2020 cause it runs so well in it with Open XR runtime. Shame other flight sims do not take advantage of Open XR. I could not run anywhere near the settings and resolution in the Index, just major stuttering. Reverb G2 even at higher resolution and settings smooth as can be with Open XR and it was gorgeous at least until the headset started blacking out lol.

Hopefully the Vive Console software will be able to do the same whenever I do get my Vive Pro 2 back. That thing is still in transit to HP in Seattle, does not show it will arrive there until Monday and I shipped it out last Monday. So likely going to be a while before I see it back here.

New cable version for Reverb G2 is on Fed EX and slated to be delivered tomorrow by 8:00 pm. Hopefully it will be earlier rather than later. Not bad considering I ordered it yesterday. I guess it is times like this I am glad I held onto these headsets I have.

Absolutely, I think keeping one's previous HMD is a good idea, and the fact you needed to use two backups is proof of that.  ?  I'll be hanging onto my G2 as a backup as well, it's cheap insurance IMO as you wont get what it's worth selling it anyways.

Yeah it was not long ago whilst using the Vive Pro 2 I considered selling the Reverb G2 and Index headset, sure glad I didn't now.

I could not imagine having to go a day or more without any VR gaming. Being retired as well as disabled it encompasses a large portion of my time. Fortunately or unfortunately lol.

Same here, I actually had an RMA as well of the VP2 - the second RMA. Loud buzz in the right speaker and some vertical scanlines, I won't accept that. I'm just glad German consumer law protects me. Similar to how I went through 5 Pimax headsets. If there's a major fault (concerning I/O, as it's an I/O device), I order an exchange. Never yield to offers of repairs, never give them more than 14 days, they'll just send them abroad and you won't have any for a month.

You either sell quality or you don't sell in Germany.

I am such an idiot.

:dash:

Turns out there is nothing wrong with my Reverb G2 nor it's cable.

It was Windows!

In the WMR settings under Display, under Sleep Timeout it was set to " Let Windows Decide".

I changed that to "Never" and just tested both in IL-2 and MSFS 2020 and no more headset blackouts!

So apparently I really did not need this new improved version of the cable I have arriving later today. Oh well guess it won't hurt to have it anyway since it is a better cable. But still - imagine how many new Reverb owners might think something is wrong with their headset when the settings default to this!

And here I could have been flying all day yesterday - augh!!

Received the new Revision 2 of the Link cable for my Reverb G2. Definitely more robust, the Link box is about 1/3rd larger than the original and has a power button on it which is nice, no more needing to unplug it. Working great for me - of course that ended up not being my issue as it turned out but glad I got it anyways. At least I know I have an even more solid connection now.
