Dear Pilots,

 

This week we are working hard on the 4.605 update which will see two major releases. First, a French WWI bomber - the Breguet 14.B2 will be released for Flying Circus: Vol. II. The second will be the initial release of the Advanced Quick Mission Generator (AQMG) that adds a lot more mission content to the series.

 

Breguet 14.B2

 

The Breguet 14.B2 was operated by the French, Belgian and American air forces during WWI and it is quite a powerful machine and successful bombing platform. It was well liked in Rise of Flight and we are proud to bring it to the Flying Circus series. This time around, we have taken the time to improve a couple details of this wonderful aircraft including the addition or Fuel Mixture and Elevator Trim. Both of these details were not included in the ROF version of this plane. Whenever possible, we try to add missing details to our re-born ROF aircraft.

Does the new AQMG work with the FC1 map?   I don’t see it there in the screenshots.

Will work with the new Western Front map when it's ready. Not going to spend time adapting it to Arras map right now. Have bigger fish to fry like FC Career mode.

This is a really exciting Dev Diary and I am impressed with everything I've seen!

I do have a somewhat silly question though - are AQMB missions restricted to certain aircraft types? I remember way long ago we used to have the occasional ground attack mission for 109 F-4s in the BoS career and I kind of miss these. Will it be possible to use the AQMB for this?

With the AMD issues does it tie into the HDR also? 

 

If I run HDR it murders my FPS. 

 

(Tested this again, I think it was SSAO)

if in the mission builder is impossible to intercept enemy bombers (at least 8 +  escort, i will be very very disappointed

Looking forward the new clouds, especially at different times of day and different lighting.

Also the localised showers etc will add a lot of immersion.  Nice job as usual!

Clouds look incredible. Cloud performance looks incredible.

 

Flying WW2 DCS has been a leap forward since DCS introduced their new cloud tech. Its a game changer to have "real" clouds to fly in.


However VR in DCS is an un-optimised chore, whereas VR in IL2 is an absolute joy.

 

So as a VR pilot I cannot wait.

I was wondering if the AQMG could be used in the future to create a mini Scripted Campaign by linking missions and adding the story text in the transition?

The clouds are looking really good. The AQMG will be a plus, and the Breguet 14.B2 will be a welcomed addition to the Entente stable.

In the future try this setting in your startup.cfg --> prop_blur_max_rpm_for_vr = -1    and get rid of that MSFS 2000 prop blur disc from your video.:rolleyes:

This is all very exciting, and I think I might fall in love with the Br.14.B2 for the first time given this new implementation

 

One questions though - regarding the AQMB:

 

The write up emphasized take-off, and the screenshots have an air start option - but is there a start 'near target' option?

 

I ask, because I've generally assumed that 'quick mission builder' wasn't so much the speed of making the mission, but the speed of playing the mission. If the mission length is greater than 10-15 minutes - then why not just play an ordinary campaign mission?

 

I do hope that a 'start near target' option is eventually included, so as to allow it to be used for those fast ~10 minutes missions that QMB are usually used for.

What is the reason behind no 3-4+ engine/crewed bombers in IL2?

 

I look at the planeset for Normandy, the new FCII and I see little hope that one day those large aircraft will ever make it into IL2.

 

What is going on with updated German bomber pilot models? They were teased almost a year ago and since then, the Russian pilot model was updated, then the US bomber pilot, then the German fighter pilot was updated (why is there a distinction?) but still no German bomber pilot? Now, even the C47 is getting new pilot models and that plane isn't even out. If you are waiting to release these bomber pilot models "right & accurate" then I can understand but there has been zero mention of a updated German gunner model (equally relevant as well) which leads me to believe they will simply use the German bomber pilot model just like they do right now with the older models. 

 

Will we ever see the iconic classic bombers of WWII in IL2 or will this new generation remain planted on the tactical smaller lesser known light bombers like A20s, Mosquitoes and these French WWI "bombers"?

 

Are fans like me grasping at the wind or am I wrong?

I watched it again in a larger monitor, looks great. It seems like once of the main issues with the current clouds might be resolved?

Im talking about being able to see the enemy propeller through the clouds, thus making it very hard to lose someone in your tail by going into a large cloud (especially in MP).

 

You can see in the following timestamps 2:16 (no distinct propeller), 2:28 (the smoke in the mirrior sort of disappears).

 

Also, the current cloudbase is limited to 3000m max. It looks like some of the new ones might be able to go above that?

My own personal dream is that AQMB could have some kind of integration with career mode, so if you're say, a squadron commander of a P-51 unit in Bodenplatte, you can elect to attack certain targets or perform certain missions outside your normal (and sometimes repetitive) rotation of just flying bomber escort missions over and over.

I think the main reason to have it is that you can do certain career style missions that aren't always allowed by the historical parameters of career mode, like flying a FW-190 as a fighter instead of a ground attacker in the Kuban, or to just do some missions with a plane without starting a whole career if you don't want to. 

I would guess the air start option spawns you just before steerpoint 2 like in career, and if its possible to move these steerpoints in the mission planning phase like you can in career, you should have your "near objective" start.

I'm very much looking forward to the new clouds - hopefully the jumping/shimmering clouds in VR will be a thing of the past!  The AQMG looks great too, and having it adapted to support co-op mission generation will fulfill what I considered a need for BoX years ago.  This will go a long way to making co-op something that can easily be picked up and played out of the box, without the need for third-party tools (as excellent as they may be!).

Normandy and the other maps are going to be absolutely fantastic with these new clouds.

The difference in the clouds is stunning. Very much looking forward to this. And the AQMG, especially once it's coop-enabled. Great that that's a priority.  Thank you Team.
