Hi All,

I have a resin cast of an actual KG - 13 that I am seeking to modify into a usable sim grip.

I want to cast the original buttons, place them over small microswitches and then hardwire these buttons to a HOTAS or something. I am new to this. Can anyone educate me on whether or not this could be done? TIA

Of course this what you want can be done, just depends on your DIY skills.

For example use OMRON B3F tactile switches as base (they are used in CH, Tm, VKB, Virpil grips), with molded or 3D printed caps that resemble KG-12/13 buttons

KG-12/13 "Druckknopf" button B2 Knopf:

Another option, although may result expensive is use Russian made 205k and 204k buttons, that are very similar to German "Knopf" of KG-12/13, and used in Russian version P1-M (based on KG-12/13) and latter in some MiG grips.

In AllBiz price are reasonable ( ~$10):

thank you for your reply. What do I wire these buttons to? What would be the "base" of the stick? thanks in advance.

That is a big question.

Warthog/\Virpil would be the most friendly base, but you'll need a shift register to wire up the buttons and a 5 pin mini din to connect it to the base

Google is your friend here

Plus you'll also need to work out how to mount it to the base

KG-12/13 grips is just 4 buttons, so wiring is very simple, example, using an (>$10) Arduino PRO Micro+MMJoy2 firmware as USB controller. OMRON B3F tactile switches illustred.

If you want make the joystick base, can make a 3D printed Object77 v2 gimbal.

For use this grip in VirPil or Thrustmaster base (and probable WingWing) need a Shift Register PC:

This Debolestis topic show what will need do for make any grip (except VKB) compatible with Thrustmaster (and VirPil) base:

Time ago I bought a Tail Boon (Maurizio DiTerlizzi) KG-12A replica - supposedly cast in mold take from real piece;  and think about make a joystick grip, but end shelved this idea after bough a VKB Gladiator Mk.II.

The second* major difficult will be get convincing substitute for B1-B2 Knopf buttons.

Besides the option of get the Russian 205K push buttons, an idea is get a NKK LP0115CCKW01A push button and 3D print or mold a cap resembling B1-B2 Knopf, gluing over NKK cap. The drawing at left is overall dimensions of B1-B2 Knopf, based on few know dimensions of this button and 205K buttons drawings, at right the converted NKK push button.

Other possibility is use Knitter MPS 103 push button as base, they are small and have a nice click feedback when pressed.

* The first difficulty will be the trigger area, that need reinforcement in trigger lever and lateral support.

Hi Sokol1

The button switch in the picture has no clear sound and sense of paragraph when pressed.

VKB metal trigger keychain. (China's price 79¥),Want to know how to make it on the cheap.

Yes, this NKK model don't have click, I pick this model as example because their size, but exist similar models of NKK with click.

Anyway the original Druckknopf FI.50911 used in original KG's don't have click, their internals:

But Knitter MPS 103 have a nice tactile click. ;)

By the way, not only russian 205k buttons will suite here. Russian K-1, K-2, K-3 and K-4 have the same dimensions. The they are made in two colour variants (black and brown) and have different types of caps (I think that flat one or with a ring in the centre looks fine). The only thing is needed to do is to remove metal mounting.

Original german buttons as the russian ones have a tactile click because of the mechanism under the cap.

FI.50911 internals looks just the same as russian K-4 button. The most simple, cheap and equivalent of original button is to use K-1-1 button (any of "K" buttons will satisfy), currently it costs 1,85$

these would be perfect for my own KG13 build, if only there was a way to buy them without batch orders in Europe ?
