HP Reverb G2 sound cuts off, sim peripherals not working

Got my first VR device this week and it's super awesome! But sometimes randomly when i'm playing IL-2/DCS/Beat Saber the sound just cuts off and in flight sims all my sim peripherals (stick, throttle, pedals) stop working as well. I can move my head around normally and otherwise game works normally (except in Beat Saber nothing just happens in the game). I have to quit and reconnect my VR device to get it working again, but i won't play with VR until i have this problem solved.

My current PC doesn't have juice much (Asus H97 plus, Xeon E3-1231v3 @3,4ghz, gtx1060 6gb, 16gb ram) but i had pretty good and stable fps in every game i tried. I've already bought a new PC but it will take 1-4 weeks or even more to arrive, and i'd like to enjoy VR meanwhile especially in this game.

To me that sounds like a power issue with the USB ports. Have you tried different ports? Also check your motherboard for updated BIOS. I also think there was a firmware update for the G2 kit released by HP - I don't quite remember how to apply that but I'd research if you haven't already

What Spider said, update your Mobo chipset, update the bios, and update your video card drivers.  Last but not least, Youtube is your friend it will show you how to do all of that if you are unsure.  The more you learn the better, so you can check off all these troubleshooting methods to alleviate your problem.  I'm of a mind you may need a more powerful video card, but you said you are getting a new computer soon, hopefully it's got a more powerful one, and a power supply to run everything with ease.  You have the same video card I do and I won't attempt running VR HMD.  Let us know how you get along, the people I know that have that HMD love the heck out of it, and they are running a 2080 (and he's upgrading to a 3080) and a 3080 VGA's........... and getting great fps.

I just recently updated to Win10 which required BIOS update so that should be fine, i will try different USB port next time and check the firmware update for the VR. I will let you know if i get this fixed. And many thanks for your help @352nd_Hoss and @unlikely_spider !

Also try lowering the sound volume a little, Reverb G2 is known for an issue with sound cutting out at full volume.

I used earbuds plugged into my Creative sound port with mine so did not have that issue.

Are the headphones removable so you can use your dedicated gaming headset with mic?..................

Thanks guys, i did the fixes you suggested and the problem seems to be gone after testing for a few hours. Had some problems with tracking (leaning and moving head forwards/backwards were inverted) but seems like i need to have lights on in my apartment to tracking work properly? I thought it was the opposite, the darker the better like with TrackIR. I was almost pulling my hair out playing in the dark having those problems lol.

  • for inside-out tracking (G2, Quest) the environment must be brightly lit as the HMD cameras latch on to sharp contrast differences between dark/lit features of the room. Too dark and the contrast is lost, tracking gets unstable as well.

  • as far as sound cutting off I noticed with the latest SteamVR builds (beta) it's becoming a serious issue, i.e. when changing planes, or finishing a mission. I can hear an audio noise chirp and all the sound is gone whilst the game is playable. To get the sound back you need to exit the game and restart SteamVR.  I think staying with a non-beta version is advisable right now.

If you have a Reverb G2 (non-Omnicept Edition), you'll be please to note they are sending out new cables with re-designed breakout boxes which allegedly fix all the USB issues.

Check this out guys

Please only apply for one if you have problems. If you do not have any problems, there won't be any new ones appearing magically in the future. ?

Yeah. There are people who have problems though - who need them. Let them get the limited supply first, then you can still get one in a month ;)

You'd have to provide evidence for an error anyway afaik
