Reshade VR Shaders mod, Anyone tried it with IL-2?

Yes, and I am very happy with the result. Contrast, tonemap and above all the sharpness are fantastic. I've always waited for these shaders ...

In DCS the files are put in the bin folder, where do You install it in IL-2?

Found it, the files should go in /bin/game/ and it makes a real difference in VR.

Have'nt started messing with settings yet, just as is.

Unfortunately some online servers don't approve this I have noticed. A shame really, colour and "feel" in VR was so much better with this enabled.

Oh well, perhaps I will continue to be offlinen and use this and PWCG in the future.

Because people were abusing Reshade to spot people across the map.  A few bad eggs will ruin a good thing.

@shirazjohn , @SvAF/F16_Goblin @readyred1  or others who using this.

You mean the complete map into /bin/game/ReshadeVR_sharpen_color

Hi yes unzip directly into your bin/game/  folder {worth making a backup of your game folder}. When you start the game you can access the settings with the home key and enable / disable with the end key . The stock settings work quite well but for me I reduced the saturation slightly. Hope this helps.

Has anyone tested SMAA or FXAA shaders? I tried using the files from the latest Reshade build (4.9.1) but they don't work.

I just cannot get this to work with my Reverb G1.   I'm sure I'm putting the files in the right directory (\bin\game) but no config overlay and no effects.  I've tried the x86 version of the dxgi.dll and the x64, no luck.

I used the old reshade before VR and it worked perfectly, but just can't get this to work.  Does this only work for steam version of the game?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Labroisse I have the non steam version of the game and i downloaded the file from the link which the op provided above , extracted it to the bin/game folder and it worked without doing anything else, the settings overlay is only visible on the monitor not in your hmd , you can access it with the home key and enable disable the effects with the end key.

I've never used reshade until now so i haven't much experience with it but it worked straight out of the box for me . Sorry i can't be of more help.

Thanks shiraz, at least I know it should work.  I'll keep messing with it.

The download is not working should I besides the download link from above also install reshade from https://reshade.me/ itself.

https://github.com/fholger/reshade/releases/download/openvr_alpha2/ReshadeVR_sharpen_color.zip

Unzip directly to bin/game folder. I didn't download anything from reshade.me.

I did download it from Github, put the map in the folder as you can read here, but pushing home/ end nothing happen on the monitor nor in VR.

I think the shader file do not belong in a separate folder but needs to override the BoX files.

Edit: read the topic at the DCS forum, it explains all inclusive were to put inn the files and how it does work.

It's working fine here as well (Steam Version). I just deposited the files in the .zip file (ReshadeVR_sharpen_color.zip) in the same directory as the executable ~ 'F:\Steam\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\bin\game' in my case.

Pressing the home key results in the menu being displayed on the main monitor:

Note that this isn't much use for Oculus users that rely on OpenComposite for it's performance boost. You can get this Reshade working by running SteamVR instead, but the performance drop incurred is pretty large. A shame, as it really does make things look a lot sharper in both IL-2 and DCS.

I've been playing around with reshade vr for about a month now and as you say there is a performance drop but the sharpening works so well that i was able to reduce my s/s value by around 20% which has given me a slight performance boost.

This is certainly an option, and one I explored (successfully) while trying this with DCS. Unfortunately I'm not running IL-2 with any SS at all, so there's nothing to reduce it to! ?

What are your adjustments in reshadeVR.

Hi i have found the default sharpness settings work fine as they are but i set the ingame landscape filter =sharp.

For the colour adjustments  i have the following:

contrast = 1.002

Brightness = 0.997

Colour saturation = 1.100

This is with the ingame gamma =1

I am using these settings for a reverb g2 which i run at 80% ss which looks almost as sharp as running it at 100% ss without reshade.

Hope this is of some use.

This is awesome! Worked right away on my Rift S. It's like a totally new VR experience.

Does this still work with the last update? Mine seems to have been disabled.

This mod works wonders, it's a shame we cannot use in IL-2 online which is all that I and many other vr users play.

Has anyone tried this in combination with FSR mod?

Yes, it's a nice compliment, but you'll want to turn down the sharpening in Fholger.

Posted (edited)

Sharpening in this mod works better than in FSR mod?

Or there is anyway to keep the sharpening in FSR mod and disable the one in ReshadeVR, just to change colors and saturation?

Thanks in advance

What are you guys selecting as the API renderer, Direct X, Open GL, or Vulkan, when installing the app? And is it still disallowed on the servers?

Odd issue, Rehade starts and the menu shows on the 2D screen (while in VR with headset off), the Effects on/off hotkey works on the 2D screen (while in VR with headset off), but I do not see any effect in VR??

Edit: You can only see the changes while looking at the 2D screen (headset lifted) while in VR. Maybe someday they will have the menu and functions available while in VR...
