FodderMonkey Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 Is it possible to incorporate some kind of thumbnail preview when selecting and assigning skins within PWCG? 1

Hi FodderMonkey - You probably are already aware, but just in case and because I wasn't aware of the Built-in Skin Viewer when I first started playing with the skins in PWCG, this thread shows the workaround (you can just alt-tab back and forth when selecting the skin you want): 1
FodderMonkey Posted March 27, 2021 Author Posted March 27, 2021 I was not aware of the viewer; thank you!! However, the viewer uses the description name whereas PWCG uses the file name. Is there a way to indicate the file name within the viewer?

The .dds are simple enough because the description is the file name, but suppose I want to use the "Red Tail" skin. I have to figure out (or rename the file) which skin it is. Is it yak1s127_skin_10? No idea; the file name PWCG uses and the description in the viewer are different. That's the issue I'm having.

I think that's a question for @PatrickAWlson or someone who understands skins better than I do. I just assumed those particular stock skins were not compatible with PWCG assignment since they were not showing up in PWCG?

Skins with the format yak1s127_skin_10 are all going to be in game skins. These are the ones made by 1C. They also will not be in your folder because they are bundled in the game. You will have to do the same thing that I did - go into the game, open QMB, pick the plane, start the mission, and assign a skin. Then count from zero, so the first Yak1 S127 skin in the side panel selector is yak1s127_skin_0, the next is 1, etc. When you see the one that you like then you can choose it via PWCG. For all of the skins the file names are unchanged. So they are as descriptive or not as the skin author made them. 2

It will need more testing, but at least for the Yak 1-b, it seems to line up by counting starting at "one" on the first skin past the .dds files (vs zero - which I think is the default skin in the QMB). So, the "Shark" skin in the Skin Viewer = yak1s127_skin_10 in PWCG. Let us know if that lines up for you the same way with the a/c you are currently flying. 1
FodderMonkey Posted March 31, 2021 Author Posted March 31, 2021 yes, I've tried it and so far it does seem to work. Unfortunately, given the way they've bundled the skins this seems the only solution. 1
Hypertexthero Posted August 15, 2021 Posted August 15, 2021 (edited) When I hover over the airplane thumbnail a tool-tip "Assign aircraft skins to this pilot" appears in the page in the roster, with the pilot logbook, photo, and so on, but when I click on it nothing happens.Do I need to add skins to a particular folder first in order to make a selection menu appear? Looks like that tool-tip shouldn't be there and you need to assign skins on a different page (Your Campaign Name > Personnel > Skin Management).
