Jurinko Posted March 21, 2021 Posted March 21, 2021 (edited) It has been 19 years since I got into this. I still keep the original IL-2 box with CD. We as Letka 13 squad made Slovak campaign files in 2004 and then the Slovakia map , 3+ years with the map tool. Tell me about enthusiasm. Just today I decided to try IL2 with new Thrustmaster, flew the IL-2 vs armor on Smolensk map, hazy 17:00. Pounded the column in that village, destroyed the train, nothing new on the Eastern front. Just the AA/AF does not work, even switched on in AMD global and game settings. Edited March 21, 2021 by Jurinko 2
III/JG53Frankyboy Posted March 21, 2021 Posted March 21, 2021 yep, 20 years are gone. Playing since its Beta - Sundays on JG26_Adi Gallands server. Than IOW, VEF and VOW ( a piece of my heart! ). Remembering spring 2001 , sitting in an internet shop in New Zealand watching a Development chat with Oleg on BlueByte. 1
Strewth Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 Yep. As TOG_Strewth and JG2_Bock. How time flies (no pun intended). I started flight simming around 1995, with monotone engine sounds and the enemy in front looked like a pixilated upside down "T". Always loved the IL-2 series in their different forms and owned pretty much every release. Had several years away from it though due to overseas work commitments and living with laptops. Back now though.
Loki_v2 Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 (edited) I've been in an out of sims since (because of?) IL-2:FB. Bouncing between DCS and IL-2:FB over the last couple of years. Back in '04-'05 I made the Pe-2 cockpit(s) and SaQSon and team did the game implementation. The community support got me through finishing the project, which is also my first official game release, and all kinds of other warm fuzzy feelings. Huge memories. My nickname on the Ubi forums was Agamemnon22. One thing that was never released (limited gameplay value I suppose) is the radioman cabin, but the model was done-ish for Forgotten Battles. You can't really see a damn thing out of it. Edited March 22, 2021 by Loki_v2 8
=VARP=Dragunov Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 (edited) Playing since beginning. Still playing , but offline. Hyperlobby and SEOW time is unbeatable. Now, old game looking great with all this new mods and extensions .... Of course it can’t be measured with BoX, but it still has that something. I know man, those were the days! You were always an asset to the blue team. I quit 1946 in 2007.

PA_Keko_ Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 Was nice , BFs1 , Skies of Valor and AoE-AoP servers.

I think very early 06 was the last time I booted it up. If there wasn't such a chasm between it and BoX, I'd fire it up just for PTO. Warrant Officer Yamaha Kawasaki misses his Zero. 1 1
BlitzPig_EL Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 I uninstalled '46 last year. The only thing I miss is flying the Ki61 and Emily. *SIGH*
XQ_Lothar29 Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 many veterans of 10 and more years, of the first IL-2 and the most beautiful times in my memories. HyperLobby was and is one of the great programs for online in 1946 .. and its large number of fronts and planes make it a highly recommended simulator. I have 3 copies on my pc.. Salute Lothar29

DFLion Posted March 25, 2021 Posted March 25, 2021 A few pics from my old 60 mission campaign 'Zero-sen' in 46. I still have 46 , fully up to date, and refer to my old missions while making my new missions. These pics should bring back some memories. DFLion 3 1
Feathered_IV Posted March 25, 2021 Posted March 25, 2021 I just fired up 1946 and had half a dozen tries at the PTO carrier career. I got my arse handed to me every single time by the new AI. The second you latch onto one F4F, another one drops everything and is all over you in an instant. I forgot how good it is 2
Redwo1f Posted March 25, 2021 Posted March 25, 2021 New campaigns coming out daily for it - especially if you have BAT installed. Highlight for me is a new DCG Burma campaign ('41-45) - and a ton of new static (or static with random elementals) campaigns released just over the past 6 weeks. https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/board,269.0.html 1
BFsSmurfy Posted March 25, 2021 Posted March 25, 2021 [BFs]Smurfy on UK ded 1 & 3. The boys on there stopped me losing the plot at a difficult time. Great days. 1
Reggie_Mental Posted March 25, 2021 Posted March 25, 2021 Look at that. Marvellous graphics for a 32bit game! Early IL2 CloD and GB were on a par. Cockpit is from the Polikarpov I-180 prototype (basically a MiG-3 with an Ash-82F engine. My favourite piston-engined Soviet aircraft 1
vonGraf Posted March 25, 2021 Posted March 25, 2021 In 2003. I played mostly SP and the 'Dark Blue World' mod later. It had better graphics and more planes, IIRC. Bought the last version on Steam recently and have it installed for a nostalgic look every now and then. The most I like is that you actually have wingmen who care about you in singleplayer. 1
MackStones Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 (edited) I got the original Il-2 a couple weeks after it came out, and quickly acquired everything that Oleg came out with down the road (plus the third-party campaigns). In old Il-2, I flew single-player for most of the time (even making about 15 single-player campaigns under another handle). I later flew on Warbirds of Prey (Spits vs 109s and Zekes vs Wildcats) and became an admin. and mapmaker there. I've only recently starting playing Il-2 BOS again, mostly single-player while I get back into "flying shape". When I have flown BOS online, it's been nice to see some old friends. Some of my fondest memories from the ol' days are Bomber Nights on the Warbirds servers, with 20-30 pilots flying bombers in formation with escorts and lots of bandits. I found a few screenshots from a "Taffy 3"-inspired Bomber Night mission I created where the dive-bombers had to destroy the moving Japanese fleet before it reached the friendly escort carriers and transports off Leyte (needless to say, the plane landing at the end wasn't me - ha ha): Edited March 26, 2021 by MackStones 2 1 1 2
Bonnot Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 WOOF ! even for solo player, 1946 offered opportunities of real groups actions, spectacular and frightening ?

Hayate vs B 29 That Ki-43 / P-40 fight brought back memories. Flying on 'Zekes vs Wildcats' I remember getting kills I'd otherwise never have gotten because of the opponents impatience or impulsiveness. I'd be in an earlier model Zero or in a Ki-43 and during combat find myself just at, but not quite the range to take a shot at a P-40. I would go maximum power, closed cowl flaps, finely adjust propeller pitch and _barely_ begin gaining on it, but of course this was unsustainable and I'd have to back off power and open cowl flaps to cool the engine. At the point of reasoning to myself "Well, I can't catch it. It's faster and that's that" and knowing I don't want to go far into enemy territory, and getting ready to go back or RTB. At that precise moment, the P-40 flyer would inexplicably pull his plane up into a steep climbing turn, providing the nicest and most beautiful sight picture and target for my guns. I always wondered why some "snatched defeat from the jaws of victory" so readily. Same with the behavior of your quarry in the video. My guess is a mis-judgement of distance and said pilot thought he was further ahead of you than he was an attempting to do a sliceback or high yo-yo and go head on with his attacker. Anyhow, thanks for the video. 1

6high Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 Still sitting on my bookshelf. 12 years later came Il2 demo, and about another 12 years later BoS...lots before and inbetween, but for me, those are the milestones, Il2/46 being the "peak" for my needs concerning cfs
56RAF_Roblex Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 Yup. Started with No.6 RAF 'Black Lions' in Warbirds & Dawn Of Aces then most of us moved to Aces High then to IL2-1946 where I flew with 23sqn RAF for a few years then joined 56sqn RAF just before we all moved to CLoD then a few years later we moved to here.

Hoss Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 Been with IL2 Title since 2001, under different Nom de Guerre during that time. 401Cdn_Griffon, 361st_BeoWolf, AG51_Hoss. Left legacy IL2 about 10 years ago and migrated to IL2GB like Gambit did, played a bunch of DCS too. Can't begin to tell you how much money I have spent on building computers and and flight sim gear in that time. And I would never write it down the old lady might find out and kill me before I can retire and play more. Cheers Hoss
Lusekofte Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 I flew IL 2 nonstop from 2001 to 2012 in SP Just a few times online. Never really enjoyed public servers. Coop in the other hands is quite appealing

Gambit21 Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 Anyone else fly in Seahawk89's CoOps? He and I used to trade-off hosting. We were both prolific builders and hosted quite a bit. We had another Beowulf (other than Hoss) around who used to frequent our missions. I remember seeing the Blitz Pigs populate a room, then launch all the time. We might have had a Pig now and then fly with us.
BlitzPig_EL Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 Those were the days, the Pigs flew in strength then. Lots of fun on the old Kuban map. We did some beta test work for Pacific Fighters, and also tested Team Pacific's New Guinea/New Britain map. I miss the old days of multiplayer, a lot. 1
