dunkelgrun and 242Sqn_Cat. Used to do most online flying in SEOW using HSFX, but dabbled with other online coops and Spits v 109s too.

I actually go back to “Klingon at sector 3-7 destroyed “, circa 1976.
First flight sim on a trash 80.

I am living proof experience doesn’t equate with skill......

S!

Flew original IL-2 since beta up to until around 2008 or so. Sporadically after that. Ventured to this iteration of IL-2, but on hold for now.

The DangerDogz (www.dangerdogz.com) have been going since the early days of 46 started by Blairgowrie, who some of the older guys may remember him from "Joint Ops" (the online fighter school) and are still going strong. Problem is the average age of our members is now in the 60's.! ?

We still are having a tremendous amount of fun in GBS with co-ops, dog fights, special events and now Tank Crew has broadened our horizons even more!.

We think its like being down the pub with your mates! actually my motto is "I love my computer all my friends are inside it" (I know, I should get out more...)

The IL2 series has been more than just a sim for me, it has been the glue that has given me life long friendships.

Salute

Yep, very fond memories of the Spits vs 109's and Zeke's vs Wildcats servers back on IL2 including what became the definitive 1946.

Think I was introduced to the game by a friend around... 2006... been an obsession ever since really. Have a few screenshots of it still sitting on my hard drive somewhere.

The name I used back then was Werner_Molders.

Hi, I did see DD Bloke on our forums a week or two ago. He stopped flying with us as he was very strongly against mods and we had just started using a mod pack.

I too remember when we had 4 engine bombers in the game

My desk circa 2005 in Kabul, Afghanistan. Had IL-2 on a 17" laptop, Trackir 3, and X-52. Flew as RS_Deacon, then VA_Deacon on WarClouds. Now ATAG_Deacon. Been around offline & online since IL-2 inception in 2001.

I used Hyperlobby for Jane's WW2 (with the Bambi mod) and then IL2 when it came out, it was a big step up.

Janes WWII had the best soundtrack ever!

Hey Niah, great to see you again!

VA_c2extreeme is flying on CombatBox a good bit, I am trying to get workky back online. The CIA guys, Elanski and Luth are on CombatBox as well. I think CB has the old WarClouds feel to it.

Kling is flying DCS WWII quite a bit I believe. Lots of old hands out and about!

I first started reading the forums in 1999 and talked to Luthier1 and Maddox prior to release... but, alas, by the time I had an internet connection fast enough for online play things had largely moved on. Still, it is nice to see people who remember those days.

I first cut my teeth on SWOTL and I first flew a Mig-3 using a mod for it... I think I want the Fw-189 mainly because of the joy of the four missions featuring it in that SWOTL mod (otherwise I'd probably be satisfied with dreaming of a Ju-188 - as I'd be mainly into the cockpit visibility). But SWOTL taught me it is interesting to not always fly the best planes.

Also, my first air combat in Il-2 was a Fw-189 ...using the 37mm of a P-39 to knock off its engine while flying the demo with keyboard at my fiddle teacher's house (my home computer wasn't fast enough to run the demo - so all I could do was stair at the CD I'd bought with the demo on it)! My internet wasn't fast enough to even download the demo back then :)

Lots of old habds are still around.

I played with most of you here or there.

War Clouds, zekes Vs Wildcats, UK dedicated, greatergreen, TX-OC3, Danger Dogs, Aviar's and Crazy Ivan's coops.

  Good old times.

I started off in Microsoft CFS back in '98',

I bought it in a kit along with a sidewinder precision joystick (which i still have!)

Originally flew as just Schuck, then i flew with JG5 for a year and joined the squad in 2005..... and that as they say is history!

We flew in  VEF Virtual Eastern Front server and VOW Virtual online War,

and had many great scraps with the EAF guys.

Unfortunately the mess that was BoB saw many loose interest, but recently a few of the squad have been flying together again in TAW and DED.

Oh yeah. Most often 'Zekes vs Wildcats' and occasionally 'Spits vs 109s'.

The small group of me and my regular flying friends' specialty was skip-bombing in Ki61s, torpedo attacks in the B5n and the G4m Betty; we really crushed it. One of them figured out a great formula for high level bombing in the G4M and Ki21, using bombsight angle, throttle position and altitude, as they applied. We won a ton of maps that way.

Yes, > 20 years now. Hyperlobby, SEOW, 242 Sqdr, HSFX - but soon there was not much spare time left, Real Life (tm), kids grew up during this time. How I miss flying the large bombers!

Yepper ... Red Baron 1&2 (and 3D) as well as Janes....when IL2 dropped it was every iteration of that since. One thing I really miss is Hyper Lobby I used to love jumping into those campaigns and coop's.  Thinking about how once in awhile you'd be sitting in the lobby waiting for your large coop to go and when it filled up it went and you where still sitting in the lobby alone ? Funny now ....not so funny then ?

PS

Goes for DCS as well LockOn modern air combat, Flaming Cliffs 2&3 , DCS

Yep, about 20 years of flight sims here too. Started with the MS combat sims, but quickly moved on to IL-2 (with some time in X-Plane and MSFS while I was taking real world flight training). Flew on Ghost Skies with the Axis guys and spent a lot of time in Hyperlobby on Spits vs 109s / Zekes and Wildcats servers. The PTO became my go to when I wasn't flying with squad. I used to practice escort takeoffs and landings almost every morning before work!

Took a big break from flying from about mid 2013 till 2020 due to job moves, life changes, and a lack of dollars. But I retired a couple of years ago, am living comfortably now and splurged this year on building a high-end PC so I'm baaack!!. Soon I'll be ready to get back online as I am about all caught up and ready for human vs human dogfights which is always more exciting than AI.

Retirement is a pretty good gig isn't it? Especially for a flight simmer!

Coming up on 5 years for me.

I’ve had IL2 from the beginning actually bought a PC for it as before that I was using an Apple Mac for work and at home. The first flight sim I used was Hellcats over the Pacific for Apple Mac back in the 90’s also Falcon 4 but never really enjoyed the modern jet sims! After I got the PC I used and enjoyed Mig Alley about the only jets era I like, do remember that being really good with sun light hitting the canopies of aircraft etc.

Had time away for a few years as normal life got in the way but kept popping back to see what was happening liked the development that was going on and purchased IL2 BOS, mostly play SP but may venture into online when I get more time - like retirement ?

Wow, I remember a lot of these callsigns! And some real fine dogfights from back then. I recall that a few VBF-12 flyers gave me some quick deaths in Zekes and Wildcats back then. It's good to be flying again.

Ah, the SWOTL wheel , I used it so often ......and SWOTL hooked me so much I discarded Apple IIe for PC !

Another favorite was European Air War, probably best graphism of the period ? Red Baron etc...  until IL2  and RoF;

I still have almost all -more or less- good,  but keep specially  manuals like Red Baron II_ a true History book, or Lucas.

I was mostly a wargamer and played almost always solo ( creating scens ),  I have regrets now when reading all yours memories ...Nostalgia !
