I saw this Fw190A image on Asisbiz and have always liked the black and white striped or chequered cowlings of JG1.  This image is actually incorrectly labelled as an Fw190A-7 but it has the early Mg cover and the later outboard longer Mg 151 cannon barrels.  So it is clearly an Fw190A-6.

The problem is I could not see a number, so I took it as I/JG1 White 3, because why not.  So this is a mostly historical skin in that it has the correct markings and camo for the period, only the number is a guess. :)

This was created using the new Fw190A-6 template I have made and sent to Jason for release.  Some new and revised weathering layers were added on this template.

The skin is available using HSD (Haluter's Skin Downloader).

The first image is Black 3 #430352 (so this one is A7) of II/JG1 at Dortmund January 1944. The picture is from Janes Battles with the Luftwaffe:

The second one I think is your bird - it is captioned as I/JG1 Schnoor's FW190A-7:

Someone could post a link?

-many, like me for example, cannot install the program because of the space on the SSD.

and I only download the kin that I like. so I think it is possible to do something for everyone, continue

as before, and use the fantastic HSD tool at the same time.

suggestion (I do this)
If you have your game installed on an ssd and you want to put your skins on a larger normal  hard drive.

You can create what is called a symbolic link to point to this location ie a redirect to a diferent hdd.
In my case I have games on say my D drive (my ssd)
my E drive is a normal hard disk
I create a symblic link in the game folder for the skins folder and point it to this E drive will all my skins
I do this for dcs and other things as well
Skins can take up a lot of space and you don't really want them on your ssd
https://www.maketecheasier.com/create-symbolic-links-windows10/

this show the sybolic link I also created for recordings in game

unknown.png

My skins folder is over 17GB and growing and thats on my normal 4TB HDD not my ssd.
unknown.png

So any skins or recording in game that a copied to the related folder  on your ssd will get redirected to where your symbolic link points (off your ssd and on your larger normal drive)

@=RS=Stix_09 Thanks for the help, however, I'm getting this error when I drop as, and then symbolic link in my external HDD. Any suggestions? This's DCS skins, but I was going to do IL-2 next.

you don't want to create symblolic links to external usb drives., n it should be a drive connected to the motherboard.
ie not ment for removeable storage,

I would kindly ask "skinners" to leave a classic links... HSD tool is impressive achievement... but it remind me of German Panther tank ( why to make it simple as T-34 or Sherman - when you can make it complicated ) ...I can not imagine that simulation-fan brain could have a problem to copy/paste a skin to folder ?

Many, many trues and realisms are not a bit harsh - but very harsh (...from our private lives... to WW2 experiences)

If you mean kidding expression "skinners" don't worry... just typing mistake

@ esk_pedja

I will still run my page because of the historical information's that come with each skin, so all my skins will be available on my page. I also run into a problem using HSD because I change the Normal Map of the paint schemes to personal style and the public one will not fit anymore :(

@HSD Team

Is there a chance to do also special normal maps to include in the download or is it only the skin itself?

Thanks Cujo, your replies are always much appreciated.  To me on looking closer I notice some difference between my image and that second image you posted.  So it looks like second Fw190A but a similar posed shot.

  • The MG cover is definitely the latter MG 131mm type on the second photo.
  • The black/white pattern on the nose is reversed
  • The prop hub is different.
  • The wheel well covers don't have the unpainted primer/filler on them.

I appreciate your concerns Lothar but it is important to clear up some minor misconceptions on what HSD does or how it works.

  1. There is no installer, you run the program and it connects directly to the skins server.
  2. The HSD program is self contained and takes up 47Mb when extracted and can be installed on any drive.
  3. When you run the HSD it asks for your skins folder, so when you download a skin it goes directly to the IL-2 BoS skins folder on your PC.
  4. HSD is more than just a downloader, it is a skins manager that lets you quickly add or remove skins directly from your game folder.

So no need to use up limited SSD space.

To clarify for ppl. (this is not required to use HSD tool its just a way to reredirect where the computer writes/deletes files) The HSD tool itself can be put anywhere on your computer you want, it takes up very little space.

SO

By default the skins folder is located  inside a directory where the game is installed. (ie ... IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\graphics\Skins)

So you move (not copy) that whole folder (Skins) to another location where you want to put them (ie a normal large drive, The HDD is not a removeable drive but one physically connected to the pc motherboard). Then you make a symbolic link to the new location replacing the old "Skins" folder with this link. So the old folder is now just a  link and not an actual folder , and the link points to the new location. Then anything written/deleted in the old skin folder location is now writtent/deleted in the symbolic link location where you relocated your skins.

The info on how to do that is in my post above.☝️ (BTW you need admin rights to make symbolic links if you use the command line method).

So  my case this symbolic link points to this  location I moved the Skins folder on my 4TB normal HDD instead of the SSD where the game is installed.

image.png.61987a758ee507ae602d35e6767d7fce.png

If you have a lot of skins they can take up GB's of space as each 4K skin is about 21MB.

So, if my intuition is not wrong, from now on those of us who do not want to use your Tool, we will not be able to have Skins, right? This is how I am and seeing it.

Your Skins Download Tool is Great, but for skins, I don't want to use tools, I like to be looking for and interacting with the authors of the skins, apart from a thousand other things. so sorry for wanting to continue via download with Mega or Media link.

I see that I will have to make all the skins that I see, and make a post with all of them, adding all my skins that I have made over 3 years so that people who do not want to use the tool, can continue as usual, Downloading it from a Link.

Salute Lothar29

Just to be clear, it is not my tool all the credit goes to Haluter and BHH and their team for this one.

My own personal take on this comes down to the mess that is the Il-2 skins forum.  I am not getting at 1C for this because they have enough to deal with.  Essentially the forum is a bit if a nightmare to get skin links.

  • Keeping track of multiple various threads in both the 2K and 4K forums.
  • Your plane may or may not have a sticky link.
  • Many have 10 - 20+ pages of skins that go back 7 years to trawl through.
  • You finally find a skin you like and the 5 + year old link no longer works.

The community has been looking for something like HSD for years and the overall response to HSD has been immense.  The fact that many authors still come to the forum to post updates and news means the interaction is not lost.  As a contributor to this community I am sure you know how frustrating it is for content you spent a lot of time working on to just drift into obscurity on the forum?

The interaction between authors has not been curtailed.  We are here now posting and communicating as we have always been able to do.

Please don't let your aversion to "tools" stop you from uploading and sharing your work with the IL-2 community.  HSD makes it so much easier to find everyones work and that is a good thing.

It is really an effective tool, in addition to uploading my works from years ago so that people can have them more at hand, I really like that it warns that you have Fictitious Skin, or another type of skin ... really a very soft and intuitive tool. .

I'm sorry for my child's behavior! Hahaha

Not at all Lothar, I know the feeling there is when a new "tool" is hyped to a point where you just feel like rolling your eyes.  Then you try it and see how much easier it makes it for the community.  The thing with HSD is that it was created by IL-2 BoS content creators like us, who saw the limitations and issues with the old way and took time to fix it.

Delighted to see your work starting to appear in HSD Lothar.

I have shed loads of skins... does this mean if I use this tool I have to trawl through all of them in case I already have that skin but under a different name???
