Ferdinand Main Gun - will not fire

Recommended Posts

OK - this is the ONLY piece of armor I am having problems with. The controls ARE set up. Simply put I can NOT fire the main gun. It will NOT fire. I have loaded and reloaded rounds for it but it will not fire. Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong?  I am going to try and create a mission with enemy armor and see if the AI will engage because it is not happening for me. ?

For me I think it works like this: Start Engine, move to Gunner position, unlock the gun, lean to gunsight, aim, press button. BOOM!

I would be happy to help if you can be more specific about what it is you've tried that isn't working.

You forgot switch to Commanders station, open hatch, and use binoculars to confirm kill.

I have not unlocked the gun evidently. I will try that. I was unaware that was required. I am not sure if I saw a key binding to do that but will look.  Thanks !!

In Gunner Seat:  hitt' the "T" key to unhinge the gun and unlock the turrent/traverse, then LShft/T to nestle to the sight.  Use RALt/. and R/ALt/; to dial in/out your range and use LShft/Mouse Wheel to zoom in and out of the scope.

The other thing I noticed is that the SIM's behavior is not consistent.

Some times after entering the Gunner's station by cycling with LtCtl + C, the gun is unexpectedly and immediately unlocked with LtSHIFT + T without having to hit the "T" key a second time.  On other occasions, hitting LtSHIFT + T nestles to the gun sight like it is supposed to, but does not unlock the gun, which is the way it should work. You are supposed to have to hit the "T" key a second time to unlock the gun.

The issue is that on the occasions where the gun is unexpectedly unlocked with LtSHIFT + T, your natural learned response to hit the "T" key a second time actually locks the gun again. Has anyone else seen this behavior, or is it just the people that often complain about the gun lock/settings reset issues?

The other issue is something I have not tried in a long time, so I can't be sure that it hasn't already been fixed/addressed. According to the listed key-mapping in game, there is a key-binding that is supposed to cycle you through just the fire positions. So instead of cycling through each station with LtCtl + C, or directly using RtSHIFT + the station number, you are meant to be able to cycle between just the Gunner's station, and the Bow MG for example with LtSHIFT + C. Last time I tried it, wasn't implemented.

Good luck @Misty06, and after using LtSHIFT + T, try to get in the habit of looking at the info icons that appear on the upper right hand corner of your screen to know if the gun is still locked, or if you need to hit the "T" key again.

I think this is influenced by how you switch position - whether you use 'next manned position' or 'jump to position' - and it could even matter how you leave the Gunner position whether it locks the gun/turret or not. But, I am not sure, and I am not going to try and figure it out: I try and keep stuff as simple as possible, so I only ever use the 'next manned position' ...

You might be right, and this is the concept I have tried to believe, but the only thing that leaves doubt is that I always use LtCtl + C to cycle through the positions out of habit. So I always enter the Gunner's station from the drivers station, and the Commander's station from the Gunner's station, and then hitting it twice to skip over the bow MG to get back to the Driver's station. So if there is something to how we switch positions, then by that logic I should be seeing either "gun is locked", or "gun is unlocked" routinely.

Speaking of the Ferdinand, any tips on getting range with it? I have that handy cheat sheet using the sight to measure range, but the Ferd sight is a bit different.

Thanks!

@gad11, next time your in the Ferdinand, have a look at the gunners station notes. You should have everything you need right there to work it out.
